A hard man is good to beat

June

June is known as "Flaming June", on account of people swearing about the rain. Actually, we did have some sun. I could tell it was sun, because rain doesn't feel warm on your face. I spent some time basking in it, Valkyries like basking.

Listen with Diana the Valkyrie

More stories added, and more on the way. I'd be delighted if anyone volunteered to do some of the reading. If you were hoping for a Contributor's Membership, this is one way to get one.

We've started using the Dolby Noise reduction system, to get higher quality on the tapes.

New and updated Galleries

Check out our new artist, Dennis. Very detailed work, superbly drawn. And go see the wedding pictures of JoanneK and JoanneFan if you want to see what a musclewoman in a bridal gown looks like. And Femsport is furnishing a lot of good stuff.

Galleries added this month.

The Library

Avidadolor's second Jenna novel is going well. Jenny Blyth has her own Bookshelf. Kandor wrote a great ball-busting story and Michel LeMuscle came along with another tale of Annie Ample

Stories added this month.

The Movie Theatre

Movies added this month. Plus there's a new Movie Theatre, the Adventures of Go-girl. I had clips from that before, but now I've put up the full episodes.

Newsgroups - NewsThumbs

I added something to the NewsThumbs search. Now, when Sandra comes back from a search, as well as giving a link to each file she found, she also offers you a ZIP file to download. This is all the files, or the first 100 files, the second 100, and so on. Since 100 files is likely to be 10 mb or so, that's more than enough for a download!

Another new thing. The most popular newsgroup that people access is, as you'd expect, alt.amazon-women.admirers. So I've done a special thing for that group. I've taken about a year's worth of pictures, deleted the porno-spams and other junk, de-duplicated it, and sorted the pictures into alphabetical order. You wouldn't believe how much work it was to make it nice and tidy like that. And I told Greta to make thumbnails for them all, to make access easier. You can see The AAWA Archive and browse through

I added a dozen or so new Newsgroups that people had asked for. Apart from that, the only new stuff was a zillion more pictures.

Servers

The Grim Reaper.

You might have noticed (or maybe you didn't) there's two different counts of the pictures on Mary. In mid-June, the count on the NewsThumbs page was 1,367,751 pictures, while the count on the file counter page says 1,337,825. The reason for this, is that the file count is only done once every five days, because counting all the files takes so long on Mary. But the count on the NewsThumbs page is done by remembering how many files there are each day.

But there's another count that you don't know about. Although the filecounter says that there's 116 gigabytes being used, actually it's only 94. That's because of the Grim Reaper.

Once per week, the Grim Reaper looks through all the files, looking for exact duplicates. There's no point in storing a picture in two different places. And when she finds a double, she ruthlessly reaps it. But in place of that double, she puts a pointer to the other copy, so that when you try to access the file, it seems to be still there.

So if people post the same file to several newsgroups, or if they post and repost the same file again and again, that doesn't take up space on my server. Thanks to the Grim Reaper and her scythe.

But I'm getting close to the limit of how many files Mary will take. In a few weeks, I'll start to expire six month old stuff, and once it's gone, it's gone. I have nowhere I can save all those gigabytes to. So if there's something old you've been meaning to grab, get it now.

The Shopping Mall

Nothing new.

The Clubhouse

Thighguy and Ulysses have designed a form for people to report their opinions on wrestling/fighting video tapes.

The reviews are available for browsing

So, carry on giving your reviews, especially of tapes that you think are good.

There's also a searchable database of Mixed Fighting Movies.

The Games Room

I added Asteroids, Breakout, Bridges, Space Invaders and Tetris, all classic arcade games. And Cliffie, which reminds me of "Frogger" and a rather fine game of Carpet Golf. And Othello.

All this is in a new place, the Games Room.

In the Chatroom

Iron Warrior mentioned that people didn't actually know what time it was in other time zones. So I had a word with Clepsy, and now she gives a link when she chimes the hours, so that you can go see what the time is anywhere in the world.

But, not stopping with that, Clepsy added a map to show you where the sun is right now, and we've also installed cameras on the Sun, Moon and several earth satellites so you can see a picture of the world. And you can even zoom in and see what the clouds are looking like, and the weather situation.

Boomer made the top spot this month, a clear nose ahead of the pack.

On the Message Boards

Notice two new message boards, for Sable (of Iron Belles) and Melissa Coates. They're also on the Wrestling Travel Calendar, and they'll visit the chat room.

Mavis keeps a running total of who are the most frequent posters, and which message boards are most used.

Scooby's takes the dog-biscuit for the fourth time running! This shows how popular Scooby is - or maybe it's the topic of the board, which is sex and violence. The Silver Knight with the Golden Lens is top messager this month.

Back Page

Thanks to a kind volunteer, we now have the main page translated into Spanish. That leaves a few million files in English still to do. Oh well, at least it shows willing. And it fooled Fistman; he thought I had the whole web site in several languages. I'm glad we have Spanish now, it's a major world language, and we have a Spanish Bookshelf. And you might have seen one of my performances in the chatroom with the castanets.

I checked the site statistics. that Sandra counts up each night. Early in May, we passed the million picture count! And in June, we roared past a million and a half.

At the end of June 1999, there were about 166,000 pictures (7.6 gigabytes), 11.7 gigabytes of video, 3100 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about nineteen gigabytes. In addition, there's NewsThumbs, which is another 1,337,000 pictures in 109 gigabytes and two million text files, a total of 116 gigabytes.
