The Weapon - Oblivion - part 1 By Diana the Valkyrie There's a lot of comfort in knowing that there's someone who cares, watching over you Update: 18/07/2003 to valkyrie05 Simon: You know, there was a time once. When I was young, the world was new. When the possibilities were infinite. When I could do anything, be anyone. Before reality caught up with me. I'm hungry. I could have been a somebody. I could have reached the heights. I could have made it big. But now I know the truth and I'm a nobody. It'll be five o'clock in an hour. It's like a treadmill. The faster you run, the faster it moves. You can't ever get ahead, and if you slack off, you fall behind. I fell behind. And it's raining. You can't imagine what it's like. All these fresh-faced snotty-nosed kids as full of themselves as I was when I was their age, and thinking that they'll conquer the universe. Fat chance, they can't even conquer their own PDAs. Rain means the bus will be standing room only. Or totally full. "Help desk here. Uh, did you try clicking on it? You're welcome." Sometimes I wonder how they manage to tie their shoelaces. "Help desk here. Uh, look in the bottom left hand corner. Yes, it can be difficult to see sometimes." Especially if you keep your eyes closed. "Help desk here. No, you can't have the latest version, you have to use the one we give you. Because we can't afford it. Because we're on a tight budget. Yes, I know it sucks." And if we let everyone upgrade each time they wanted to, you can forget about keeping things working. Bastard users, I hate them all. Right, it's time. That's me out of here. Wendy.self: I'm not sure which bright spark came up with the idea of prefabricating fusion power plants then airlifting them in place, but I do know who gets the job of hauling them all over the planet. It's Pretty Flamingo all over again, except these things are a lot heavier than those oil tankers were. I can't drop one of these in the water while I change a nappy. And I don't have the babies to keep me company, I miss having babies around. I'll have to talk to David about that. On the other hand, I've got my Duncan emulation to talk to. Wendy.Duncan: Come on, Wendy, it isn't that bad. So when are you going to answer the question I asked you this morning? Wendy.self: None of your business. Wendy.Duncan: Is too. Wendy.self: Is not. Wendy.Duncan: Is too. Wendy.self: I don't want to talk about it. Wendy.Duncan: Aw, c'mon, Wendy. I'm only human. Wendy.self: No you aren't. Wendy.Duncan: All right, all right. I'm an emulation of a human, I have all the human reactions. Wendy.self: Maybe. Maybe not. Wendy.Duncan: What's that supposed to mean? Wendy.self: Well, how do I know if I emulated everything important? There's stuff deep inside you that I probably never knew about. Wendy.Duncan: OK, but I'm a good enough emulation to know that I'm horny. Wendy.self: Not my problem. Wendy.Duncan: Is too. Wendy.self: Oh, don't start that again, Duncan! Wendy.Duncan: Look, it's not like I'm asking for the moon. You like the guy, don't you? Wendy.self: Of course I do, you know I do. It isn't just that he got me back from a zombie state, he's actually a very nice guy. A very sweet guy. Wendy.Duncan: Even if he is somewhat conceited. So? Wendy.self: Yeah, but I don't feel *that* way about him, you know what I mean? Chemistry. Wendy.Duncan: You love him, don't you? Wendy.self: You know I do. I love all of you, you're all so sweet and helpless, you're my little babies, of course I love you. Wendy.Duncan: So why haven't you? You know he's in love with you, don't you? Wendy.self: Yes, I know, and that's another good reason for not doing it with him. You said so yourself, sex without love, it would tear him apart. Wendy.Duncan: Yeah, but what about me? It's been 25 years since I got my ashes hauled. Wendy.self: So you want us to have sex with David, right? I mean, you were always a total hetero before, you think you'd enjoy it? Wendy.Duncan: Actually, yes. Wendy.self: I don't see how you can think that. Wendy.Duncan: Look, you know you always said that the reason you enjoyed sex with me was because you got the feedback from me. You can't get the feelings directly, but you can share the pleasures that I feel? Well, I'll share the pleasures that he feels, it'll be like me making love to you, Wendy. Wendy.self: Yes, I know the theory, it just sounds so recursive, not to mention perverted. But anyway, nice girls don't hop into the sack with a guy just because one of her emulations is horny. Wendy.Duncan: Nice girls don't have emulations. Anyway, you're not a girl. And why do you think it's perverted, you do it? Wendy.self: That's different, I'm not human. Wendy.Duncan: Neither am I, you just said so. And you know you want to. Wendy.self: Do not. Wendy.Duncan: Do too. I'm the one person you can't lie to. Wendy.self: You're not a person, you're an emulation. Wendy.Duncan: Same difference. Wendy.self: Is not. Wendy.Duncan: Is too. Wendy.self: Sigh. You know what, Duncan? I wish we could. Well. You know. You and me. Properly. Wendy.Duncan: Oh, Wendy, I do too. Do you remember the first time we did it? Wendy.self: Look, we're home!
