Chpt 4: Time to Save

Kara stretched luxuriously in bed, after her hard night she had allowed herself the luxury of sleeping in. After all, she had completed all her work, all the bears were counted, and all the batteries were changed. She rolled over laughing thinking of the big bruin that gave her so much trouble. God I would hate to have to do that again she thought to herself. She then thought of the two young bears that she had come so close to saving and wished with all her heart that she could do it over. It hit her like a bolt of lightening. She did have it to do over. She had lost three days; it was now the day that the bears had been shot. "I can do it over!" She screamed. She glanced at the clock. "Christ" I only have a few minutes she thought. Grabbing her costume she flew out the door and a second later she was streaking across the tundra once again a blur of red and blue.

Kara spotted the poacher as he was taking aim "Christ, I'm not going to make it" She screamed. " She accelerated even faster reaching Mach 8 for the first time in her life just as the poacher pulled the trigger. She followed the bullets with her vision and stretching out her hand in the last second she felt the first bullet strike her palm. She stretched further, her efforts were rewarded by the sting of another bullet as it deflected off the very tip of her finger. Both bullets ricocheted off  harmlessly into a snow bank. Kara breathed a sigh of relief. She then turned her attention to Deter Macrey. She would now be able to take Deter back alive.

Deter jumped up from behind a rock, took deliberate aim and fired his rifle. Kara felt the bullet strike her forehead right between her eyes, Deter was a very good shot. Kara took one step back as the bullet ricocheted off her forehead. She followed it with her eyes; watching it ricochet off a rock, then off a tree then off another rock, then back off her left breast, right back at Deter Macrey where it left a perfectly round hole, between his stunned eyes, finally coming to rest an inch from the back of his scull.

Deter looked up at Kara with a look of utter disbelief on his face. Kara, somewhat stunned herself;  rubbing the sting out of her left breast she could only shrug her shoulders at Deter as he, lifelessly, fell over backwards.

Kara, stood over the lifeless body of Deter Macrey, pretty sure that he was the only man ever to die twice in the same day. She pondered deeply, life, death, which  hurt more a bullet in the head or an icy splat. She was trying to decide when her deep thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a tug on her cape.

" Hey, cut it out!" Kara yelled, at the playful bruin who had just found her bright red cape of extreme interest " That's a brand new Ahhhhhhhh" she suddenly yelled, as she was yanked off her feet as the bear bolted across the tundra refusing to give up the cape. Kara, her legs splayed, was dragged backwards her bare butt skimming off the ice. She briefly tried pulling against the bear. The bear was determined not to let go. He pulled with all his might against her efforts, like a puppy with a sock. Afraid that she might actually cause the bear some serious dental problems Kara gave up, deciding it best to just strip out of her costume and then retrieve it from the bruin, it was after all, like her, invulnerable. She peeled out of her top after having to remove her skirt first. The bears feet became tangled in her skirt and with an OOF as his big belly hit the ground he fell. He slid across the ice on his stomach, all four legs stretched out like a huge rug from hell, with Kara riding on top of him.Their eyes couldn't of been any wider as they plowed into a huge drift, disappearing in an explosion white powder.

Kara popped up out of the drift shaking the snow from her hair. She looked up to see the bears sibling,1000 pounds of white fluff, playfully,  leaping for them. He looked like a huge ball of cotton falling out of the sky. Kara's lightening fast reflexes took over assessing the situation instantly and coming up with a perfect response which unfortunately, for her, consisted of only two words.  "OH SHIT!" She yelled, just before she was smashed between the two bruins. They were all sent tumbling in the snow, Kara and two wrestling bears. Kara once again popped up from a snowdrift her hair completely covering her face. The original trouble maker was on his back, with his stomach exposed, as his sibling held him playfully down. Perfect, she thought climbing on top of the bear's fuzzy belly. The bear was about to be taught a lesson by Kara, who knew exactly what to do with the exposed stomach. If she had learned anything in the last few days it was that bears were very ticklish.
