The Raven Takes Wing by Duet "A New Career" - despite second thoughts, a victory over some Thunderbolts convinces Kate to stay in the heroine business; she meets Dallas cop Susan Books Kate "Raven" Windrunner slept for twelve hours after her night 'patrol'. She had barely survived with her life, and only now did her strength seem regained. She had taken a thorough beating, both in terms of physical punishment, and in terms of the assaults on her vagina, from Gash's gang. For some reason, while near the end of her limits, two of the gang bangers had suddenly turned on their partners and helped her escape from Gash's gang, with no explanation provided. She considered herself fortunate that none of them had tried to track her down while she slept. After retrieving her bike from the SMU campus, for the next few days, Kate continued to teach self-defense at her small shop in the strip mall. By night, she further honed her martial arts skills, aware that she really needed to be better able to defend herself, lest she fall into another situation such as she'd had in the warehouse with Gash's gang. The next time, she might not be so lucky in getting away. She also knew she had to resolve some issues before she should go on patrol again. First, and most importantly, was the question of her invulnerability. Why did she become so weak, feel so much pain, when she was on campus? Second, she needed a costume - only her short black skirt survived her first "patrol". Finally, she needed to understand her powers more, so she knew what she could, and could not do, in a fight. Why did she sometimes feel like her skin was on fire? She decided not to think about the two guys who set her free. She wasn't sure what made men act so cruelly toward women, and she surely couldn't understand why two such men would make such a sudden and complete reversal. A few days after the warehouse battle, she received a letter from a local attorney. Mr. Serrano had been hired by someone out of state to find her. He had a small check for her, and a phone number for her to call. Kate visited Mr. Serrano in his office one day later, and retrieved a check for $100 and a South Dakota phone number. "Hello," she began, calling the number from a pay phone near her dojo. "I'm Catherine Windrunner." "Hello!" a loud bass roared back at her. "Thanks for calling. I'm Dr. Trimble. I knew your parents. Your mom was an enlisted person, here at the air base in Rapid City, before you were born. I . . . well, actually, I think we need to meet, talk. What I have to tell you about your parents is too long, too complex, to cover over the phone. If I send money to Mr. Serrano, would you fly up here?" "Yes, but not for a day or two. I have some things to take care of. I'll check with Serrano's office in a few days." she replied, just before hanging up. On her way home, she used the $100 and made a stop at a large Minnesota Mills fabric store, to begin the process of making a new costume. Over the next few days, she used the materials to make a new costume. It consisted of a tight lycra top, a dark blue one, that hugged her form, a pair of elbow-long black lycra gloves, black silk panties, the black lycra skirt she had worn before, and calf high red leather boots, with low heels. Kate realized that her invulnerability and gymnastic skills, and above-average strength and fighting ability would not be enough, in some situations. "Never bring a knife to a gun fight," her first karate teacher told her, long ago. She added loops to the skirt, and worked a small nylon belt through the loops. She decided to add some weapons to her resources, a tactical baton, and two double-edged throwing knives. The baton, collapsed to six inches in length, rode in a scabbard on her belt. A flick of her wrist and she had a steel baton 16" long for close-in fighting. The knives, a little over four inches in length, fitted neatly in nylon sheathes inside her boots. She hadn't gone on patrol since that last disastrous night, but decided that she had to, just to get her confidence back. "Raven" slipped out into the night, deciding to stick close to home for this patrol. She walked slowly through the dark streets, looking, once more, for wrongs to right. The first few hours were boring, and she decided to head home, and get some sleep. Suddenly, she heard a scream. Raven ran in the direction of the scream, and came to a street and took in the scene that she saw there. Five men surrounded a woman, a police officer, one of the city's summertime bicycle cops. She was in a police T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. Her 10 speed lay on the ground a few feet away. Raven moved forward, then froze, breath held, in shock, and a little bit of fear. As she could see the scene clearer, she recognized the men wore the colors of her old 'friends' the Thunderbolts. And, as they shifted around the woman, like sharks around helpless prey, Raven saw they were led by Sonny, his nose still swathed in bandages. Raven watched, frozen for a moment, remembering his huge cock, how it had felt inside her, and how she had sucked it, like a cheap slut. For a moment, she thought about sneaking away, forgetting about this...but, she knew that she couldn't, so, she moved toward the group of men, keeping in the shadows. She saw a beer bottle lying nearby in a gutter; seizing it, she tossed it to her left, beyond the Thunderbolts, and started sprinting, quietly, toward her right. As she expected, when the bottle hit the ground, the five gang bangers, in unison, turned toward the sound. As Raven got closer to the gang members, she whipped out her baton and with a flick of her wrist, it snapped out to its 16" length. As she reached the group of Thunderbolts, she screamed a "KIIIYAAAAHHH!!!" and leaped into the air, her body forming a knife edge, her left side downward, her right leg extended. Like a pile driver, she slammed into Sonny's back, driving the man-mountain toward one of his partners. Both collapsed in a heap as Raven dropped to the ground, landing in a crouch, on her feet. As the other gang members turned back toward this new sound, the lady cop dived at and tackled one of the gang bangers. Before the other two could react, Raven sprang upward, the muscles of her legs pushed her, catapulted her into the air, toward the gang members. She quickly kicked outward with her right foot, connecting with the chin of one of the gang members still standing. As she landed, she felt three rounds hit her in her ribs - the last guy standing was pumping .38 caliber rounds at her! Raven grunted from the impact, gratified that her invulnerability was helping her. She pivoted on one heel, extending her arm outward, bringing the baton around in a wide arc that caught the thug in the side of his head with a solid 'thwack'. Number five had bitten the dust! YEESSSS!!!! The fight wasn't over yet, though. Sonny and his pal were getting back up, and turning towards the heroine. He recognized her, the Bitch who'd gotten away. He still wanted a piece of her ass, and this time Gash wasn't here to spoil the fun. He'd have to be careful though, she could hit. He grabbed the other man and quickly whispered to him, as Raven turned, to see if they were all down, smiling when she saw he was up, as if the little slut *wanted* him. Raven turned, and saw Sonny, and the other one, whom she pretty much dismissed, getting back up. She smiled. 'Good' she thought "I want to hit that ass hole some more." She moved in, carefully, for Sonny was dangerous, even when she was invulnerable. In the meantime, the lady cop, and the other Thunderbolt were still fighting. He'd been surprised by her tackle, but was slightly stronger, and, at the moment, the fight was even, with both of them struggling, trying to find an advantage over the other. Neither of them could help out in the fight developing between the heroine, and the other gang bangers. Sonny flexed his muscles, and slowly walked at the woman, as the other gang banger, who went by the name of Marko, moved around to her left. Raven held her ground, deciding that since she knew where they were, she'd let them attack, so as not to over commit to one of them. Though, truly, she only saw Sonny as a threat. The cop swung her arm back, into the side of the ganger's head, stunning him for a moment. She took advantage to roll him onto his back, and straddled him, reaching for one of the two pairs of cuffs that she had on her belt. . . The two gang bangers moved in carefully. Sonny was wary of how hard she could hit, and that baton made him more wary still. Marko was also wary, having heard the tales of how she had kicked the crap out of half the 'bolts. He also liked looking at her...she did have quite a body. The cop pulled out the cuffs, and grabbed one of the ganger's arms. She pulled it over his head, and got ready to secure it to a light post nearby. . . Marko suddenly darted in at Raven, aiming low, for her waist and upper thighs, to tackle her. He'd played safety in high school varsity football, and didn't figure any bitch could get away from one of his tackles. However, Raven wasn't just any girl. She spun, the baton flashing, hitting him in the side of the face, then her leg shot out, in a side kick, again to the face, and Marko flew back a few steps, and faded into blissful darkness. The cop was about to cuff the man, when his other hand came up, and grazed her breast. She gasped, in surprise, nearly dropping the cuffs. . . Sonny grinned, and came in at the bitch. He had her now! Suddenly Raven dropped low, leg flashing out, hitting his one ankle on its side. He fell to the ground, with a loud *oof*. Quickly, Raven leaped onto his back, her fingers entwining themselves in his hair. Three times she lifted his meaty head and three times she slammed in into the pavement. Then, with Sonny out, Raven rolled off Sonny, did a reverse somersault ending beside the Dallas cop and her thug, and with a quick rap of the baton dropped the last Thunderbolt. The cop got up, looking at the woman who saved her. The huge baton seemed to collapse, and the woman put it away. "Thank you" said the flustered cop "But who are you?" "Call me Raven" Kate replied "I'm on your side." "So I noticed" said the cop, making a note to pass word of this Raven onto her fellow officers. She watched as the heroine faded away, into the darkness. Kate smiled, and headed home, for a shower and sleep. She had won this round.
