DEBUTANTE By N.R.G. A story about Paula introducing a new girl to boxing and wrestling It had been a good party, the first we'd had since Paula's return to the ring. All of our old friends were there and there were also a number of newer friends from Paula's work. One of these a very good looking blonde called Kaye was admiring Paula's collection of trophies and still photographs from some of Paula's fights which were housed in a small display case in the corner of the lounge. Noticing her interest in them, I walked over to her. "Do all these belong to Paula or are some of them yours?" she asked as I approached. "The boxing and wrestling ones are Paula's the others are mine from football and cricket," I replied. "So it's true then, one of the other girls at work said that Paula was a boxer, but I'd never believed her until now" "Why didn't you just ask Paula?" "Didn't like to, in case it was a wind up." "Well it wasn't a wind up, she's been boxing for just over a year, and she's fought nine times." Kaye looked from the cabinet across to Paula who was chatting with a group from the football club and said. "Do you think she could teach me to box and wrestle? I've always enjoyed watching fights and both my older brothers boxed but I was never encouraged to take part in any contact sports." "Ask her, she'll probably be only too glad to help." And with that I steered her towards Paula and at the same time rescued Paula from my foot balling mates. The following weekend Kaye came to stay so I cleared the dining room and set up our small ring, the punch bag and got out all the other training equipment that we had collected over the last year. Twenty-six-year-old Kaye was keen on aerobics and proved to be very fit and was an extremely quick learner. It was soon clear that she would benefit from more expert tuition than Paula was able to give her. On the Sunday afternoon the two girls decided to spar a few rounds. Paula climbed up into the ring wearing her usual red shorts and an old white T-shirt. Because of her experience and the fact that she outweighed Kaye by over a stone and half, a serious bout was out of the question. Kaye got into the ring dressed in a rather startling pink leotard that accentuated every curve of her five-foot three 35-24-36 figure. To avoid injury they both wore head guards and used heavy l2oz training gloves. Acting as timekeeper and referee, I blew a whistle to signal the start. Paula let Kaye come at her parrying the blonde's left jab and countering with her own before thumping a hard right into her ribs. Kaye gave a little grunt as she felt the weight of Paula's body punch but still pressed forward and landed a couple of cuffing hooks to the side of Paula's head. I pushed them apart as they clinched on the ropes. "Remember you're only supposed to be sparring," I warned them. They both nodded, and glancing at my stop watch I allowed them to continue. Paula continued to let Kaye come forward slipping the lighter girl's punches and then turning her onto the ropes and digging a hard right into her breast. I blew my whistle and ended the first round. "You're belting her a bit hard aren't you?" I said to Paula, as she took a swig from her water bottle. "Testing her out, got to see whether she really wants to fight or if she only thinks it's a bit of a laugh," she replied. Crossing the ring, I went to check on Kaye. "All right?" I asked as she leaned back on the corner padding taking big deep breaths. "Try and use your feet more and don't get in so close, Paula's a lot heavier than you and she'll punish any mistakes you make." Kaye nodded and I gave her a quick drink before returning to the centre of the ring to signal the start of the second round. Taking my advice Kaye darted forward flicking out her jab and then dodging away from Paula's counter punches. Sneaking past Paula's jab, she landed a hard combination to her breasts. Paula pulled her into a clinch and prevented Kaye from continuing her attack. Kaye's inexperience showed as she let Paula turn her against the ropes again and pushing the lighter girl away drove home a left hook to the solar plexus. Kaye dropped to her knees like a deflated balloon, I pushed Paula away and then asked Kaye if she was okay, clutching at her belly and struggling to draw in air she just nodded. Realising that the sparring session was over Paula removed her gloves and head guard and came over to check on her friend, who I had now helped back to a stool in the corner. "Still want to box?" asked Paula. "Yes, and wrestle," came the breathless reply. "Good I'll get Peter my trainer to give you proper lessons and we'll try to find someone for you to wrestle with." Once the two women had got changed, we discussed our next moves. Despite having been effectively knocked out by Paula, Kaye was more keen than ever to take up the sport seriously. Finding Kaye's first boxing opponent would be a slight problem as most of the women fighters that we knew were all either around the same weight as Paula or very light weight. So we decide to place a couple of adverts in Fighting Girls Monthly and although we knew this might take sometime it would allow Kaye to get better prepared for her boxing debut. The wrestling was much easier to arrange, a quick phone call to Peter and we had not only secured his services as a trainer but booked a wrestling match for Kaye against his wife Joanna who had introduced Paula to the joys of fighting in the first place. The following weekend we collected Kaye and drove over to meet Peter and Joanna. Kaye was very excited about having her first competitive wrestling match. Paula and I both wondered whether she would still be as keen after she had been thrown about by Joanna. When we arrived, Peter answered the front door. "Hello, Paula, Nige' and you must be Kaye. Paula told me all about you on the phone," he said as he ushered us towards his lounge, "Joanna's upstairs getting ready. I've already moved the furniture and laid out the mats. So if Paula takes Kaye up to change we can start as soon as she's ready." Paula led Kaye away to get changed and Peter and I went through our usual ritual of cracking open a couple of cans of beer. "You'll have to act as referee," Peter said as Joanna walked into the room. "Hi Nigel," she said planting a kiss on my cheek. "Still devastatingly attractive I see," I remarked taking in her 39-27-40 figure and long shapely legs barely concealed by the short towelling robe she was wearing over her gold one piece swimsuit. Less than two minutes later Paula and Kaye came down. Kaye was wearing a red silk kimono over her wrestling outfit. "Shall we get on with it?" said Peter, pointing the girls towards the wrestling mats. Once on the mat Kaye slipped off her robe to reveal a very skimpy red one-piece that was straining to contain her chest and had already disappeared between the cheeks of her bottom. Both fighters were incredibly sexy looking women, both had their hair tied back in pony tails. Kaye was going to have her work cut out against the heavier, taller and more experienced Joanna. For the first time since picking her up that evening Kaye looked worried that she might have bitten off more than she could chew. Joanna looked calm and relaxed as she always did, but I knew she felt nervous fighting someone she didn't know anything about. I explained the rules, the bout would be decided by the best of five submissions or ten second pins with no time limit. I then sent the two fighters to opposite corners of the mat and signalled to Peter to ring the bell to start the match. The girls circled warily before coming to grips, testing each other's strength. Hands locked together and fingers intertwined they struggled neither wishing to be the first to release. Slowly Joanna forced Kaye's arms upwards over her head and then stepping forward suddenly swept the lighter blonde off her feet. Falling backwards she hit the mat hard with Joanna's full weight coming down on top of her and knocked momentarily breathless. Joanna, quick to seize the initiative was soon sitting astride Kaye's chest, holding her arms flat on the mat above her head in an attempt to secure the first fall, realising the danger she wriggled violently trying to unseat Jo. Twice I counted up to five and each time Kaye managed to lift one of her shoulders off the mat but as she struggled she allowed Jo to move further up her body until she was able to pin Kaye's shoulders with her knees, the golden material of her swimsuit glittering in light as she moved. Unable now to escape and with Jo's weight pressing down on her upper body, she was forced to concede the first fall, as I completed the required ten count. Jo quickly released her and returned to her corner of the mat, Kaye lay for a few moments looking up at the ceiling, breathing hard, before she rose, and went back to her corner. "Try going low at her legs," Paula told Kaye, as she gave her a quick drink. Having given them a minute rest I called the two fighters back to the middle. As soon as I signalled the restart Kaye launched herself at Joanna's legs. Expecting just such an attack Jo deftly sidestepped her diving opponent. Kaye squealed in pain as she slid face first across the mat, the flimsy material of her swimsuit failing to protect her sensitive nipples from being burnt by the friction of the mat. Wasting no time Joanna grabbed the blonde by the ankles and hauled her face down to the centre of the mat making her squeal again, as once more her breasts were dragged across the mat, before executing a textbook boston crab. Tears streamed down Kaye's cheeks as Jo exerted pressure on her back adding to the pain from her breasts. "Submit?" asked Jo as she applied even more pressure. "No, NO," cried Kaye, her inexperience showing as she had no hope of breaking the hold. "Give in," said Jo once more. "NO...NO NOO YES, YES, YES," screamed Kaye unable to bear the pain any longer. Joanna let her go and stood up. Rolling onto her back Kaye writhed on the floor not knowing which pain was worse and alternately clutching at her sore tits and lower back. Paula came onto the mat to help her up. "Do you want to carry on?" "Yes," said Kaye choking back the tears of pain and continuing to hold her lower back as Paula applied a cold sponge to her chest. "Ten seconds," I called and Paula left the mat. Still crying Kaye turned to face Joanna once more. Straight away Joanna attacked, taking hold of Kaye's outstretched arm with one hand and thrusting her other between the blonde's legs, she heaved her off of her feet and demonstrating her strength, turned Kaye upside down and slammed her onto her back. Gasping for breath Kaye couldn't prevent Jo from following up the body slam by once again pinning her shoulders to the mat with her knees. This time Jo ground her crotch into the face of her helpless opponent whilst I completed the formality of the ten count. Three nil to Joanna a convincing victory over the newcomer. Both Jo and Paula helped Kaye upstairs to take a shower and get changed. When they all returned I was surprised to find that despite the drubbing she had received from Jo, Kaye was keen to find another opponent. Before we left to take Kaye home, we had arranged with Peter for him to help Paula train her in boxing and Jo to teach her more about wrestling. It had taken nearly two months for us to find Kaye her first serious opponent in boxing, but fortunately for us our advertisements bore fruit. Amongst all the letters from men wishing to try their hand at fighting Kaye was one from a couple from East London, Shirley and Mark. Shirley had done some kick-boxing before but wanted to try her hand at the more conventional style. I spoke to Mark on the phone and we arranged the fight for a Friday night when we could use the ring at the gym, where Shirley did her kick-boxing and he would get one of the club's officials to act as referee. The night of the fight arrived and with Peter and Joanna we collected Kaye and made the tiresome drive across the centre of London to the venue. When we arrived, we were met by Mark who showed Kaye and Paula, who was to be her second, where to go to get changed and led the rest of us into the gym itself. We were rather surprised to find quite a large group of people in the gym waiting for the fight to start. Mark explained that he had invited a couple of friends along and the others were all members of the club. I wondered whether Kaye would be intimidated by the presence of such an unexpectedly large audience. After about fifteen minutes a middle-aged man in a white shirt and tie climbed through the ropes to introduce the contest he was shortly followed by the two girls and their seconds. "Ladies and gentleman," he began, "tonight's special event, four, two minute rounds of boxing between in the blue corner, weighing in at nine stone five pounds (131lb) from Hounslow, and making her ring debut Kaye," (Kaye was anxiously bobbing up and down in her corner) "and in the red corner weighing nine stone seven pounds (133lb) exactly from Hackney and also making her ring debut Shirley." Having finished his announcement the referee come MC called the girls to the middle of the ring giving me my first opportunity to compare them. Shirley was a good five inches taller than Kaye's five foot three but equally well built. Unlike Kaye, she wasn't a natural blonde as was evidenced by the much darker roots of her long wavy hair hanging loose around her shoulders. Kaye's blonde locks were sensibly held away from her face in a ponytail. They both looked very businesslike. Shirley was wearing a pair of dark green baggy shorts of the kind favoured by Thai-boxers and a green halter necked bikini top, Kaye was turned out in a pair of very short white satin shorts, a white bikini top and, unlike her opponent who was barefoot was wearing a pair of white ring boots. Shirley was also slightly older than Kaye at twenty-six. Having been giving their final instructions, they returned to their corners to wait for the opening bell. In contrast to Kaye's obvious nervousness Shirley looked extremely calm and confident and as Mark pushed in her gumshield she held her gloved fist up and then turned it thumbs down towards the canvas to let Kaye know that was where she was expected to end up. "Don't let her worry you she's just showing of to her friends," Paula told her as she put her gumshield in place. "Remember what Peter has shown you over the last few weeks and you'll be okay." Nodding Kaye bunched her fists up in her gloves and advanced purposefully towards the centre of the ring as the bell signalled the start of the fight. Shirley, gloves held high betraying her kick-boxing background, parried Kaye's left jab and landed her own right on the top of Kaye's head as she tried to duck inside the taller woman's reach. I could see that Kaye was going to have problems getting through Shirley's defence as she moved out of Kaye's reach and landed another couple of stinging jabs to her head. The small crowd cheered Shirley on as she beat Kaye to the jab and followed it up with a crisp right to the side of Kaye's face. Gritting her teeth Kaye pressed forward taking more hits to the head in order to thump home a powerful hook to the taller girl's body. Gasping, Shirley grabbed hold of Kaye and held on until the referee split them up. Backing away from Kaye, Shirley avoided another hook aimed at her body, but got home with two fast jabs into the middle of Kaye's face, as the bell ended the first round. Shirley had easily won the opening round and apart from a red blotch just below her right breast was unmarked. In the other corner Kaye's face was already showing the marks from Shirley's consistently accurate jabs. Unable to hear the advice she was receiving from Paula, I could only guess from Paula's gestures that she was telling her to keep her head low and throw more shots to the body. The bell rang for the second round and encouraged by the crowd Shirley stormed into the attack catching Kaye with a flurry of head punches forcing her to cover up against the ropes. Switching to the body Shirley thudded home a hook to Kaye's right breast, which to the delight of most of the men in the audience popped out of her bikini top, and a right uppercut meant for Kaye's jaw caught her high on her forehead. Stunned, she staggered along the ropes and managed to avoid another left hook, as the referee stepped between the fighters, the crowd jeered thinking he was stopping the fight, he pushed Shirley towards a neutral corner in order to give Kaye a standing eight count and to allow her to readjust her bikini top. Shirley was now supremely confident of being able to knock Kaye out rushed forward as soon as the count was finished but was sent reeling backwards by a straight right from Kaye, following the taller blonde back she scored with a hook to the body and another right to the head but was denied a knockdown by the bell ending the round. As Kaye returned to her corner, we could see that she had a large ugly swelling above her right eyebrow caused by Shirley's mistimed uppercut. Across the ring there was a lot of activity in Shirley's corner, as Kaye's vicious counter attack had both bloodied her nose and caused a cut on the inside of her mouth. Despite being ahead on points the Eastender looked the most damaged, if Kaye could press home a couple of good attacks she might force the referee to stop the fight. Heedful of Kaye's power, Shirley went on the defensive content to try and keep Kaye out of range with her left jab. Prepared to take a punch to land one of her own, Kaye continued to go forward and got through with two or three solid blows to Shirley's belly and tits, clearly hurt by these punches she tried to tie Kaye up by clinching and holding, putting her Thai-boxing experience to good use. Kaye pushing Shirley away managed to score with a right to the face that started more blood flowing from Shirley's nose and then landed a left low into the body. Shirley dropped to her knees clutching her hands to her shorts claiming a low blow, the referee agreeing with the downed fighter didn't start a count, he instead signalled to the crowd that he was deducting a point from Kay for a deliberate low blow. "The bloody refs a cheat," I said to Peter, "that was never a low blow." Peter nodded in agreement. Having had a point deducted and already behind on points Kaye would now have to knock Shirley out to win. Back in the ring Shirley having been given a good minute's rest was able to continue. Furiously Kay went forward scoring again to the body, wincing under the impact of the blows Shirley retreated round the ring and looked very relieved when the bell came to end the round. Kaye sat on her stool clearly angry about what had happened, her chest heaving as she took in long deep breaths. Paula cleaned away the splashes of Shirley's blood from Kaye's body and tried to calm her down ready for the last round. In the other corner Shirley wasn't looking half as confident as she was at the start of the fight and in spite of the efforts of her second her nose was still bleeding as she was called to the middle of the ring for the final round. Touching gloves as the bell went, they resumed the battle. Kaye taking a jab to the face from Shirley still pressed home her attack to the body. Desperately trying to keep Kaye off, Shirley launched a fierce counter attack of her own catching Kaye with a series of uppercuts and hooks to the head but she was unable to force the shorter woman back, instead trading punches all the time she was driven into her own corner. The small crowd were silent as the two women exchanged punches in the corner all that could be heard was the thud of leather on female flesh and little grunts and squeals of pain. Finally, Shirley dropped to her knees to escape Kaye's punishing punches. The referee was slow to order Kaye to a neutral corner and begin the count. Shirley looked in a sorry state, resting on one knee blood from her nose and mouth splashing down to stain the canvas and her mouth wide open dragging as much air as possible into her lungs, she didn't look like being able to beat the count but didn't have to as the bell rang ending the fight as the referee reached seven. Mark jumped into the ring to help Shirley to her feet and after a quick glance at his score pad the referee raised Shirley's hand in victory. Kaye stood in her corner bitterly disappointed at losing and Paula had to tell her to go and congratulate Shirley. Reluctantly she went across and shook hands with the battered victrix before making a quick exit from the ring. During the journey home Kay was very subdued. "Don't let that result put you off fighting, you were robbed by the hometown ref, as far as we're concerned you won that fight and if I can persuade them to come over to us you'll get the chance for revenge," I told her hoping that she would continue to box as she showed tremendous promise and given the chance could do really well.
