Alien 4: Resurrection


STARRING: Sigourney Weaver Winona Ryder Ron Perlman Michael Wincott Dan Hedaya

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 100 years after Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) sacrificed her
life killng off the alien menace, a group of greedy scientists clone her and
use her to breed a whole new crop of aliens! this is far superior to the
dreary Alien 3, as they return to a more action oriented story. as good as it
was, it is hard to get away from the fact that this was the 4th installment in
the series. this time there was zero tension when the creature burst out of
the guy's stomach. i liked the movie. it was very entertaining, but it's time
to move on.

SCISSORS SCENE: Ripley is sitting on the edge of a hospital examination table.
her hands are cuffed and secured to the table by a thick wire cable. she had
very recently undergone surgery and a scientist is checking her out. a second
enters and asks him about how she is doing. he tells him she is recovering
well and suggests that he check her scar tissue. he does so but then makes the
mistake of getting "in her face". when he sticks his face right up to her's
and makes a patronizing comment she suddenly seizes him in a bodyscissors. he
appears to be under great pressure as his eyes bulge out and his mouth hangs
open. she tears her cuffed hands away from the restraining cable and adds a
stranglehold on her already suffering victim. a guard rushes into the room and
we see a smile of pleasure on Ripley's face as she is "doublesqueezing" the
male. the guard shoots her with some sort of stun gun and she releases the
man, who survives and becomes the main villain in the movie.

POSITIVES: good set up, very good acting on the part of the scissoree. play
that tape again and you're probably going to say, "hey, that guy looks like he
is really getting squeezed."

NEGATIVES: camera work. we see a nice shot of her legs capturing him but
that's it. the rest is his reaction and then her reaction. later in the movie
it's explained that she has tremendous strength (because she's half alien) but
the scene works better if you aready knew that. i know i liked this scene a
lot better the second time i watched it, when i was better informed.
