GENERAL DESCRIPTION: three young martial
artists are summoned to a mysterious island to
fight in the ultimate struggle between good and evil. it's a tournament
called Mortal Kombat, and the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.
it's an action filled roller coaster ride with every
scene delivering either a well choreogaphed fight or a cutting edge
special effect.

SCISSORS SCENE: it's Sonja Blade's turn to
fight in the tournament, at the last moment she
is told that her opponent will be Kano, the man who cut her partner's
throat. he even shows off the knife he used, and then he suddenly
attacks
her. she fends off his blow and lands a punch and kick that seperates
him from the knife. the
tide of battle swings back and forth as they each land punishing shots.
at one point he kicks her in the stomach and she writhes in
agony on all fours. as he moves in for the kill
she does a handstand, swinging her legs up
and around his neck as he stands above her.
he is stunned by this acrobatic move, and at
finding himself caught in her grip. he pries at
her legs as they squeeze his neck. she slowly
forces him down to the ground where she locks
her ankles together and chokes him in her calves. he is gasping and
squirming as the evil
leader yells, "finish him!" Kano, who had been
carrying on a cocky banter with Sonja, now begins to tremble and beg her
for his life. she
hesitates, but when he pleads, "aw, Sonja, give
me a break," she says, "ok!" and breaks his neck with one twist of her
hips.

POSITIVES: good set up, good camera work,
very good looking lady. great length, over 30
seconds, and his begging was a nice touch.

NEGATIVES: the "snappy banter" between the
two ("i've studied all your moves, baby." "oh,
yeah, study this!") was a bit juvenile but didn't
diminish a truly excellent scene.

OVERALL RATING: ***
