The Enchanted Island By M.C. An anthropologist goes to study a newly discovered island where all of the females have superhuman strength. 1) My First Project I couldn't believe my luck. As someone who had just recently received my doctorate degree in cultural anthropology, my university was sending me as part of a team to study the culture of the people who had lived on an island in the South Pacific. But because of the island's isolated location, as far as anyone knows, there has been very little contact with the indigenous population that lives on the island for the past several centuries. They were simply living in a place that time and civilization seems to have passed by. Because I had written my doctoral thesis on the cultures of the Polynesian peoples living on the South Pacific islands, I was chosen to be a part of the team that was going to study the lifestyle and culture of the indigenous population that inhabited the newly discovered island. And I just couldn't wait to go there and get started. It was indeed an anthropologist's dream. Getting to the island wasn't easy, to say the least. And as we made our way there, I began to understand why it had remained isolated for so long. First, we had to fly to Papeete on the island of Tahiti and the capitol of French Polynesia. From there we had to hire a boat to take us on a six day voyage south, to a place far outside of any shipping lanes. It's true that the island did appear on satellite images taken from space, but nobody seemed to be all that interested in going there and finding out anything about it; until our team that is. And what we discovered there would shock the world - if we would publicized what we had discovered there that is. 2) The Island The first thing we noticed when the boat docked at what seemed to be a newly built makeshift dock, was that all the dockworkers were women; and I mean LARGE women. I would guess that their average height would be between six and six and a half feet tall. And they were also muscular, VERY muscular; like female bodybuilders only much taller and stronger. Instead of using forklifts and vehicles to transport our supplies, these incredibly strong women would simply lift our things, place them over their massive shoulders (some weighing at least several hundred pounds) and carry them up the hill to our living quarters - and they weren't even the least bit out of breath when they got there! "How many men do you know that can do things like this Richard?" Jake, one of my male colleagues asked me, equally stunned at what we had just witnessed these amazing women do.None," I replied.I've never seen any man capable of doing what we've just seen these amazing women do. Not one." We couldn't help but notice that Dr. Nancy Wilson - a physician whose field of expertise is in medical research and the leader of our team (and the only female member on it) - began to laugh when she heard all of her male colleagues express their astonishment at the things that we saw these female dockworkers do. They also seemed to have a rudimentary understanding of English which surprised us because, so far as we knew, other than a few visits to this isolated island, contact with the indigenous inhabitants had been few and far between. Furthermore, they didn't have a single radio or T.V. on the island - nor even electricity for that matter, which is why we brought our own generator along. So where did their knowledge of English come from? It was indeed a mystery. But as we were to find out, it was only one of the many mysteries that the people of this island, especially the women, had in store for us. After we had settled into our huts, which is all this isolated island had in the way of accommodations, I decided to take a walk around the village and explore my new surroundings; as any cultural anthropologist would. And the more I saw, the more I was stunned by what I saw. For it wasn't just the female dockworkers that were very large and strong, it appeared to be EVERY woman! Even the girls appeared to be built like champion female bodybuilders in the United States. But the men and boys that I saw all appeared to be quite normal in both their height and build. What in the hell was going on here? Later that evening I was having dinner with my research team. We were eating a meal of freshly caught shark and a strange but sweet tasting fruit that nobody on our group could identify. And as we ate, we discussed our first impressions of what we had seen so far. And not surprisingly, we had all noticed the amazing differences between the males and females who inhabited this island; both in their physique and strength. While the males, both the men and the boys, appeared to be quite normal in both categories for Polynesians, the women and girls were definitely much taller and stronger; and not just for Polynesians, but for anybody! "There is definitely something very unique about this place," Dr. Wilson said in what could only be described as a classic understatement. And I'm going to try and find out exactly what that is. And I suggest that you boys do too." And then she added in yet example another example of her classic understatements,This could be a rather big discovery guys." 3) My First Encounter With Tania The following morning I awoke early and decided to forgo breakfast with my team and explore this strange new world where we found ourselves in. As I was walking along the beach, I saw a gorgeous Polynesian woman gazing out over the ocean. She must have stood at least six and half feet tall (I'm six feet two and I had to look up to her), and she was built like a tiger tank.I go fishing," she said in her broken English - but with a lovely smile when she saw me looking at her.My turn to catch fish for village today. I Tania, who you?" "Richard," I replied, deciding to forgo the formalities of calling myself Dr. Richard Stevenson, as that would probably not mean anything to her and, therefore, be rather superfluous. "Richard too hard for me to say. I call you Ricky; O.K? You come to watch us, right? To see how we live. Every day a different girl go fishing to feed village. And this day is Tania's turn." "But how do you fish Tania? You don't have a harpoon, a net or even a boat. And look (I pointed out towards the ocean at the ominous fins that were clearly visible from the shore), there are sharks out there. And they look like big, mean Great White Sharks." "I know," she smiled again. That's why Tania go fishing now. Lots of big sharks for me to choose from. Stay here Ricky. Tania be back soon. Then we talk; O.K?" I stood there completely stunned as this big, strong, long haired Polynesian beauty dove into the surf and began swimming towards the fins at a speed that would make any Olympic champion jealous. And when she reached the area where the school of sharks were, I saw the water around the area suddenly become very turbulent, as if a great struggle was taking place underneath the surface where I couldn't see. A few seconds after all this had started, I started to see blood coming to the surface; and I began to get worried. There's no need to worry son," an elderly man who was standing behind me said (and whom I hadn't even noticed was there until he began to speak). Every morning one of the girls goes out to catch sharks to feed our village. It's the way things have been done here for countless generations." Then he held out his hand to me. "My name is Mike, by-the-way." At first I was a bit taken aback by this man's command of English as he was the first person that I had heard speak it fluently since we arrived. But then I noticed that he wasn't a Polynesian; he was Caucasian like me. "Yes, but she doesn't have anything to catch the shark with," I said.No harpoon or net; not even a boat. How will she ever be able to get a big shark to shore - even if she does somehow manage to kill it? I mean those look like really big sharks. And how could one single girl possibly even survive out there all by herself?" Before answering , Mike winked and gave me a cryptic smile. You have just arrived on this island yesterday sir, and there is a lot about us that you'll need to learn in order to understand. But for right now, trust me - Tania has everything she needs to catch a shark and bring it to shore to feed everyone in our the village today; along with you and your team." As he spoke, I noticed that that the turbulence in the water had subsided and the sea became calm. I also noticed that all the sharks now seemed to be swimming away from that area - as if something (or someone) had scared them off. About a minute later I saw Tania's head pop up from the water close to the shore. And when she saw me and Mike standing near-by, Tania flashed us both another beautiful smile.Hi Papa," she calmly said as the beautiful woman emerged from the water. You come to watch me catch fish today too?" By now Tania was completely out of the water and what I saw next was a sight that I will never forget as long as I live. For there, right before my eyes, this gorgeous Polynesian woman was dragging a dead Great White Shark out of the water that must have been at least twelve feet long and weighed (I was just estimating now) about a ton behind her. A shark that she had killed with nothing more that her bare hands! And she was as calm as she could be about it.My daughter will drag the shark to what you would call the village butchers shop," Mike said. And there he'll be carved up and doled out to all of the people in our village; including you and your team. That's how things work here - and has for as long as anyone can remember." Gorgeous, super-strong women who can kill Great White sharks with nothing more than their bare hands every morning? Females who are larger and far stronger than the males while living on the same island? A man who speaks English fluently? Again I wondered, what in the hell is going on here? When I asked Mike about this he just smiled and said, "All in good time my son, all in good time. You and your team have a lot to learn about this place." Then he gave me another cryptic smile and said,Why don't you join us for breakfast and I can begin to explain to you some of the mysteries of this enchanted island. I think that you will find it rather interesting; to say the least." 4) Breakfast With Tania's Family I walked along the beach with Mike and his incredibly strong daughter - who was casually dragging the huge Great White Shark that she had just killed behind her in the sand as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. "Ricky joining us for breakfast Papa?" she asked in her childlike English, which seemed totally incongruous with what I had just seen this amazing woman do. When Mike nodded, Tania smiled again and saidGood. He seem like nice man. Tania like him." We arrived at a large hut near the shore and a team of men were already outside waiting with their knives drawn and ready to work on Tania's catch. And when she placed the dead shark on the ground in front of them, they immediately went to work on it.In about an hour the villagers will start to come and get their daily portion of the shark from Tania's catch today," Mike explained to me as we began to walk towards the hut where he and his wife lived. Tania lived in a hut near-by. We sat down at the large table in the middle of the room, the only room in the hut. And another very large and muscular, though somewhat older, Polynesian woman who I assumed was Tania's mother, served us copious portions of the sweet fruit that my team and I had eaten the previous evening after we had arrived.Allow me to introduce you to my wife and Tania's mother Richard," Mike said. Her name is Sura." "It's a pleasure to meet you Sura," I said with a smile. She smiled back at me without saying a word.My wife is not comfortable speaking English Richard," Mike explained when he saw the perplexed look that I had on my face.None of the older generation are really. I tried to change that but in the end I gave up and concentrated on the younger generation instead. But as you can see (he glanced over at Tania and grinned) I've been only moderately successful." As we spoke I glanced over at Sura. She was preparing a drink of coconut milk for us. As you may know, a coconut's shell is immensely hard (many people actually get killed every year by coconuts falling on their heads from trees) and extremely difficult to open. People often use a hammer and a screwdriver in order to do so. But Sura was simply breaking them open with her bare hands - as if they were just eggs! Mike smiled as he looked at me.Yes Richard, the females on this island all have incredible physical strength - as you no doubt noticed earlier when my daughter killed that large Great White Shark with nothing more than her bare hands and effortlessly dragged it over to the butcher's shop." Mike then anticipated my next question which, I guess, was pretty obvious,And I have absolutely no idea as to why this is so. I'm not a scientist like you and the members of your group. So perhaps your and your team can solve the mystery as to why all of the females on this island are so strong while the males remained normal." Sura brought over the shattered coconut and doled it out to us. And as we began to eat it and drink the milk, I asked Mike,How did you ever manage to wind up here in this isolated place? I mean you must be the only non-Polynesian on this entire island." "That's true Richard, I am." Mike then paused for a few moments before continuing.Ever since I was a kid, I was an avid sailor and it had always been a dream of mine to sail solo around the world. And as I didn't have a family, there were no bridges to burn. So one day I quit my well-paying job as a successful investment banker in New York City, bought a sailboat and began to fulfill my quest. I started out from New York and sailed to the southeast, rounded the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of South Africa and continued east across the Indian Ocean." "Everything was working out fine, until I got to the South Pacific that is. And then the seas got rough; VERY rough. With a great deal of difficulty I managed to persevere until a giant squall capsized my boat. Thrown into the sea, I was clinging to my life preserver sure that all hope for me was lost. And then, just as I was about to completely give up any hope of surviving, I felt an amazingly strong arm wrap around my waist and swim me to dry land; this island. The woman who saved me was Sura. She had been out hunting for sharks at the time, saw my plight and swam out to rescue me." "Well to make a long story short, I fell in love with this magnificent woman who had saved me from certain death and married her (Mike smiled at his wife when he said this), and we now have this incredible daughter as a result. And so here I am, 30 years later, living on this totally isolated island among these unbelievably strong women. And I can't imagine myself ever being any happier." After a long pause I said,That's quite a story Mike. But how on Earth did the females on this island ever become so strong? I mean we just witnessed your daughter kill a one ton Great White Shark with her bare hands and then calmly drag his lifeless carcass along the beach as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. That's not only astounding, it's totally unbelievable! If I were to tell anybody on the outside world about what I saw Tania do this morning they'd send me to an insane asylum. What the hell is going on here?" "The truth Richard is, like you, I have absolutely no idea why all the females on this island are so incredibly strong and the males are normal. All I know is that they are. But unlike you and your team, I'm not a scientist. So maybe you guys can solve this mystery. Who knows? There may be a link between this sweet, red fruit that we're eating for breakfast and their phenomenal physical strength. It doesn't seem to grow anywhere else in the world, except, for some reason, on this island. Why? I honestly don't know." I frowned when I heard him say this. For most of my conversation with Mike Tania and her mother were very quiet, only whispering to each other in their own language from time-to-time. But when Tania saw me frown, she asked her father,Ricky not look too happy Papa. Why that?" "It's kind of complicated honey," he replied. He wants to know why the women are so much stronger than the men on this island. And I'm afraid that I don't have an answer to that. But Richard came here with a group of scientists. So maybe they'll find out the reason for this." "What do you say Papa? Tanya not understand. Where Ricky come from girls not stronger than boys?" "No honey; I'm afraid not. Outside of this island where we live, it's the other way around. The men are always the stronger ones." Now Tania was really confused. But who catches the fish to feed them? Who kills the mean beasts that come from the jungle when they attack them? Who protects the men from all the bad things that happen when they get into trouble? How do the men live without the girls and women to protect them? I don't understand Papa." In response to her questions, Mike and I could only exchange glances with each other and shrug our shoulders. At length all Mike managed to do was repeat to his perplexed daughter what he'd already told her,It's kind of complicated honey." And he left it at that. After giving the matter some thought, Tania finally shrugged her massive shoulders and simply said,Sound like Ricky come from a very strange place Papa." And she may have been right about that. 5) Later That Day Later that afternoon when I rejoined our team, we all sat down to discuss what we had observed of their society so far. And the obvious topic of our discussion was, not surprisingly, the tremendous physical strength of all the women on the island. And not just the older, mature women, but even the younger girls too. Jake described seeing a girl - who he estimated couldn't have been more than thirteen or fourteen years old - emerging from the jungle and calmly dragging the lifeless body of a huge python snake behind her that appeared to be at least fifteen feet long.Bad snakie," she said to him with a pretty smile as she casually passed by the stunned anthropologist.Take home with me for family to eat. Snake taste very good." It was only after I heard Jake say this that I was able to describe my experience that morning watching Tania kill the large Great White Shark. I didn't think that they would have believed me and might even have sent me back home for psychiatric evaluation if I did tell them. But as we had now all witnessed what the incredible females on this isolated island can do - feats of strength that anywhere else in the world would be beyond belief but on this island were seen as normal everyday activities - I also shared my experiences with them. "There's obviously something in their environment which makes the females here so incredibly strong," Dr. Wilson said. And as a medical researcher, I think their diet along with genetics may have a lot to do with it. Richard, this new friend of yours Mike told you that the sweet fruits that we've been introduced to here is a major part of their diet and are only found on this island; right?" I nodded.Well then," she continued,I believe that that's the first place that I need to research in order to discover how and why the females here - and it's only the females - have acquired their awesome strength. Unfortunately I don't have the resources available to me here to conduct a deep analysis into the characteristics of the fruit and why it would only affect the females on this island. So I'll have to send some samples back to my university laboratory for analysis. That means that the answer, if they can even find one, may take several months at the earliest. So in the meantime I'll do what I can while we're here." She paused for a few moments before continuing,Gentlemen (except for Dr. Wilson we were all males), I think it goes without saying that we have found ourselves in a place bordering somewhere in between reality and fantasy. A place where women can kill huge sharks with just their bare hands and even girls can kill fifteen foot-long snakes; and it's all quite normal! It's as normal for them as would be for us going to the local supermarket and buying groceries for our families. You mentioned Richard that Tania couldn't seem to comprehend how unusual all of this is. That outside of this one single island where she lives, it's the males who are always in control?" "Speaking as an anthropologist now, and not as a medical researcher, we have here a unique opportunity on this isolated island to observe how a society where the females that are the stronger, more powerful and the dominant gender functions. So I suggest that we all take full advantage to study this opportunity - because it will probably never happen again." Good advice, to say the least. 6) I Begin My Research Because my new acquaintance Mike is an American and a native speaker of English (the only fluent speaker on this Island) and has been living here for some thirty years, he became both our interpreter as well as our prime source of information regarding the culture and lifestyle of the indigenous population that lives on the island. And as a result, I frequently ate meals over at his hut along with both Sura and Tania; and engaged in lengthy question and answer sessions as we did. As an anthropologist, most of my questions dealt with the aspects of the lifestyles of this remarkable society that evolved in this unique society where it was the females who were the dominant gender - a matriarchy as we anthropologists call it. "So tell me Mike," I said as we sat down at their table and prepared to eat a freshly cooked python that Tania had caught earlier that day (don't knock if you haven't tried it; it's really is quite tasty). How is it for you to live in a society where the females are the dominant gender?" "At first it was a bit difficult Richard. But eventually Sura (Mike looked over at his wife and smiled) was able to convince me that this was the best place for me to be. And it's a decision that after thirty years I've never regrated." "Do any conflicts ever occur between people on this island? Like, say, between the men and women? Or between men, or likewise between women - like they do in all other societies? And if there are, how are these conflicts resolved?" "Conflicts are very rare on this island Richard, but they do occasionally occur. We are, after all, human beings. Not between the men and the women of course because, as you have seen, that would be a virtual death sentence - for the man that is. When the men have a conflict between themselves, their issue is then taken up by the village elders; who are always women. And after they've listened to both sides of the dispute they make their decision. And their decision is always final." "Now with the females it's a little bit different; depending on the issue at stake. If it's deemed a minor issue - like say a dispute over a shark that both of them claimed to have killed - then the elders will hear their case and decide; just like with the males. But if it's something more serious like a conflict over a man that they both want to make their husband (the opposite of what takes place everywhere else where it's the men who fight over the woman), then the elders have devised a unique way of deciding the issue." Mike smiled before he continued. It's a kind of trial by combat, so to speak." "What's so unique about their trial by combat Mike?" I asked; noticing the grins on both Sura and Tania's faces when I did so. "Well, as you may have noticed, the females on this island are rather strong; that is to say incredibly strong. And because of this, the elders long ago banned women fighting with their fists as it could result in a very serious injury or even death. So they devised a unique form of combat for the females to engage in to decide their disagreement which wouldn't hurt the combatants too much." "In the presence of the elders, the two women tie back their long hair (because they are all Polynesians, all the females have long, beautiful, dark hair) into a long braid with a tight knot tied at the end. Then they face each other and firmly grasp the wrists of the woman that they're in conflict with. And when the elder who is acting as the referee gives the signal, the women begin to turn their heads rapidly from side to side, whacking each other in the face with the knot at the end of their hair as they do so." "The winner is decided either by a knockout, one of the women forced to surrender, or, if the referee decides that one of the women is getting beaten so badly that a serious injury might occur if the fight continues too much longer, she intervenes to stop the it (which is not unlike an American boxing match in that respect). The female who emerged victorious is then declared by elders to be entitled to the man that she has chosen and the loser must accept their decision. Now, this may all seem a bit primitive to you Richard, given where you and your collogues have come from, but at least on this island nobody ever gets seriously hurt; outside of maybe a bruised ego that is. But as I stated previously, conflicts on this island are really quite rare. By and large, the inhabitants here live a very quiet and peaceful life in harmony with each other." 7) Three Weeks Later "You and your team are in luck Richard," Mike said to me as I again joined him, Sura and Tania for breakfast.Monday is the 21st of December, the summer solstice (remember that I'm in the Southern Hemisphere now and December 21st is the longest day of the year). And on this island it's like the biggest holiday of the year, call it their New Year, if you will. And all of the villages (there are four separate villages on this island) get together to celebrate." And then he added with a sly grin,And as anthropologists, I think that you and your team will find it a very interesting experience to say the least (wink)." "What do you mean by that Mike?" I asked perplexed, not just by what he said but the way that he said it.You'll find out," was all he said in response. The celebration will begin at noon and this year it's our village's turn to host it. Tania will be participating in the events, as she has for the past several years." I looked over at the powerful woman that was sitting across the table from me who again flashed me her beautiful smile and said,You and your friends also come to watch; right Ricky? It's much fun." Although the inhabitants of this island have lived virtually in complete isolation from the rest of the world, they nevertheless have evolved a culture which, like all cultures, includes holidays and festivals. And the summer solstice" which is the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere - seems to be a major one. All of the people from the four villages that live on this island get together to celebrate it. Mike explained to me that the festivities consist of consumptions of delicious and exotic foods which would then be followed by athletic competitions between the village champions in three events. When I asked Mike what those events consisted of, he simply gave me another sly smile and said,You'll see. But trust me on this Richard, they're not like anything that either you or anyone else outside of this island have ever seen before. And I further guarantee this - none of you will ever forget it." And he left it at that. 8) An Athletic Competition Like No Other After a feast which lasted for several hours with almost all of the inhabitants from the four villages on the island in attendance (we estimated there to be about four thousand people, more or less), we all moved over to the beach area where the athletic events would take place. As their culture had evolved independently with no outside influence, the inhabitants on this island had developed their own style of competitions. And what my team and I were about to witness would astound the entire world - if they were to ever know about it that is. As Mike was the only person on the island who could explain the competitions to me and my fellow researches, I asked him to sit next to us in the makeshift arena and describe what was going on. "Each of the four villages choose two of their most capable women to compete in three events," he began. They compete completely naked and don't vie for any medals or prizes; that doesn't seem to be a part of their culture. It's all just for the joy of the competition. And I see now that they're getting ready for the first event. Look." We looked to where Mike pointed and saw a sight that astounded us (as if we could still be astounded after being here for three weeks as to what these incredible females on this island can do). A girl, who appeared to be no older than sixteen or seventeen years old, was dragging a large crocodile out of the jungle by his tail behind her; and smiling to all the spectators as she did so!This was the largest crocodile that she could find for the event today," Mike told us.And judging by the looks of him, he appears to be about fifteen feet long and weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200 pounds." "This event is really rather simple. Each of the two women chosen by the four villages to represent them will, in turn, grab the crocodile by his tail and hurl him as far out into the ocean as they can. They're only allowed to whorl him around three times to build up their momentum before they must release him. Now if you look out into the ocean, you'll see two girls out there. One of them will place a floating marker where the crocodile lands while the other one will grab him by his tail and swim him back to shore for the next contestant to use for her throw. And the woman who throws him out the farthest wins the event." And then Mike added proudly,I don't want to brag too much about this, but our daughter Tania has won this event for the past two years. And my wife Sura - who was sitting alongside Mike - had also won this competition twice when she was younger (Sura smiled at Mike when he said this). And because Tania is the defending champion, she will be the last to throw the crocodile." My team and I sat in total awe as we watched these eight incredibly strong, gorgeous and naked Polynesian women - one-by-one - grab this fifteen foot, 1200 pound beast by the tail, whorled him around three times before tossing him into the ocean. Some of them appeared to throw the poor beast well over a hundred feet! We found ourselves completely lacking in English words to describe the event that we were witnessing. Amazing? Incredible? Awesome? Unbelievable? None of them really even came close to describing what we were all feeling as we watched these Polynesian superwomen in action. The seventh woman finished her throw and appeared to have hurled him a few feet further than all the rest had so far. So now it was Tania's turn. The young girl swam up to the shore and dragged the disheveled crocodile up to where Tania stood and handed his tail to her. They exchanged a girlish giggle before the girl returned to the water. Tania smiled over at us and then she went to work. Three times she whorled the 1200 pound beast around before flinging him out to sea. And when the crocodile hit the water - a good five feet further than the previous woman's toss - we all stood up and cheered. All the participants congratulated each other and, as far as we could tell, there were no hard feelings between them. It's all in good fun," Mike told us.All the girls respect each other. And if you're wondering what will happen to the crocodile now, he'll be released back into the jungle as his job is done." Mike then added with a grin,Somehow I don't think that he'll ever want to come back here again." "What's next Mike?" I asked. Now is what I call the titty bump contest." He laughed when he saw the looks on our faces after he said that. The girls will face off against one another - two at a time - in the middle of the circle that they're now drawing in the sand. It's about twenty feet in diameter. Consider it a little bit like sumo wrestling, only the girls are forbidden from using their hands. All they can use is their large, firm breasts to bump into each other; hence my name for it. The object is to simply either knock your opponent down or force her out of the circle. There will be three rounds - first four against four, then two against two and finally the championship round. Last year Tania lost in the final round. Maybe this time she'll win." I have to admit that the sight of these incredibly tall and strong women hurling their gorgeous, naked bodies against one another and slamming each other with their breasts was a sight to behold. To say that I didn't get an erotic thrill while watching them go at each other would be a lie. Even Dr. Wilson, our female medical researcher, admitted afterwards that she also got aroused by watching them. Tania made it into the final round again but, alas, lost to the same woman that had defeated her last year.Sheri still too tough for Tania," she said afterwards.Maybe next year Tania win." Then Tania smiled at me and asked,You help Tania in next contest; O.K. Ricky?" I looked over at Mike who was grinning from ear-to-ear.What in the world does Tania mean help her, Mike? Each one of these amazing women is at least fifteen times as strong as I am. How could I possibly be of any help to her? What in heavens name does your daughter want me to do?" "The next contest is called the Man-Carry Race, Richard. Each one of the girls must race with a man riding piggy-back style on their backs. The men all have to be about the same size - your size as fate would have it. It's actually quite an honor to be one of men that the girls chose for this. It means that Tania likes you (wink). And it would be considered an insult to her if were you to refuse." He paused for a moment, then continued with a smirk.Oh yes, and there's one more thing. Like the girls, the men also have to be naked in order to participate." I looked over at my colleagues who were all laughing now, and Dr. Wilson was downright hysterical. It's all in the name of science Dr. Stevenson," Jake laughed and added,as a cultural anthropologist you should know that. Just consider this as vital a part of your research Richard. After all, you chose to be a cultural anthropologist. Right?" Then he smirked and added,You should have read the fine print when you applied for this assignment." Don't you just hate people who have seniority over you? But what other choice did I have? Tania's family has been wonderfully nice and hospitable to me; not to mention how helpful Mike had been in our research. And do I really want to offend a girl whose at least fifteen times stronger than I am? Not that Tania would ever deliberately harm me but it might be wise not to tempt the fates. And after all, it is in the name of science, isn't it?It would be a great honor to help you in the next contest Tania. Just explain to me exactly what I have to do?" "Thank you Ricky. You make Tania very happy. Now take off your clothes and we go to starting line with other girls and their boys. Then you climb on Tania's back, put arms around neck and I hold you by buttocks. When race starts Tania run fast, so hold Tania tightly. If you fall off we lose race. Last year boy fall off so Tania lose. We run around that tree (it looked to be about four hundred meters away) and back. First girl to cross starting line with boy on back is winner." Tania is going to run eight hundred meters with a two hundred pound man on her back! Is there nothing these wonder women cannot do? We lined up at the starting line with the seven other pairs and I climbed up on Tania's back while she reached back and supported my buttocks with her strong hands. And then it hit me, and there was no denying it. The feeling that I got from holding onto this incredibly powerful woman (remember, Tania can kill a large Great White Shark with just her bare hands) stark naked with her long, beautiful black hair in my face was the most erotic feeling that I have ever felt in my entire life. So much so that I couldn't stop myself from getting hard; a fact that wasn't lost on Tania. "Oh Ricky, save that for after race; tee, hee, hee." When we were all lined up and ready, the large woman who had been acting as the referee for the competition shouted out a word in her language and the race was on. To say that these girls ran fast would be an understatement. Even with two hundred pound men clinging to their backs, they could all have easily outrun any Olympic champion. It couldn't have been more than thirty seconds before Tania reached the tree which marked the halfway point. Tania circled around it and back she ran - with me holding on for dear life. As we began the return run Tania was in second place, just a few feet behind the leader - the very one who had beaten her in the titty bump. But with a surge of speed just before we reached the finish line, Tania burst passed her and won the race.We won Ricky!" Tania exclaimed and then proceeded to give me the strongest and most passionate hug and kiss that I have ever received. As with the other two competitions, the mighty women all congratulated each other as did the men (and I could clearly see that I wasn't the only one that had gotten an erection). "Fifty-six seconds!" Jake shouted when I returned to my colleagues and began to put on my clothes. Your friend Tania ran about eight hundred meters in fifty-six seconds! (We would later measure the distance from the starting line to the tree and back and found it to be eight hundred and twenty meters). I just looked up the world record for the eight hundred meter run (thank God for satellite communications) and it's 1:40.91 set by David Rudisha of Kenya in the 2012 London Olympic games. Tania just shattered that record by forty-five seconds, and with you clinging to her back Richard! Is that amazing or what!" 9) After The Competition The athletic competition over, everybody returned to the feast again; this time roasted wild boar. But somehow I was not in a festive mood anymore because my mind was now being completely consumed by very different thoughts. So I excused myself from my colleagues and wandered off into the jungle to be alone. Up until now I've tried to be very professional about my relationship with Tania and keep her at arm's length. Not that I haven't noticed what a magnificent woman she is. And I won't bother listing again all of the incredible things I've seen her do in the three weeks since I first met her on the beach that day. But I came here to study her people and their culture. After all, that's what cultural anthropologists do; isn't it? But I'm also a single man with normal male desires. And when you spend a lot of time with a female as awesome as Tania is, how can a normal man resist those desires? Perhaps the final straw came when she carried my naked body on her naked back with her long, beautiful hair flowing in my face during our race and I felt just how truly awesome she is. It was only fifty-six seconds Jake said, but it was fifty-six seconds of pure bliss. So, what was I supposed to do about it? I honestly didn't know. "Why Ricky so sad?" I heard a familiar female voice coming from behind me ask.Ricky not like party?" Tania must have seen me leave my friends and followed me into the jungle. She was dressed now in a skimpy grass dress and still looked awesome.I'm not sad Tania. I'm just confused." "Why Ricky confused?" Tania asked as she continued to approach me. For some reason, having this six and a half foot, immensely powerful Amazon standing directly in front of me caused me to take a few steps backwards. Why you go back? Ricky not like Tania?" "I like you Tania, I really do. But, but, I just don't know." She approached me again and I took another few steps backwards. But I now found myself with my back pinned up against a large tree with Tania standing directly in front of me.Why Ricky afraid of Tania? Because she so strong? Tania not hurt Ricky. Never. Tania like Ricky. If Ricky not like Tania, then why this?" She pointed down to my pants where my penis was a hard as a rock.Just like when we race. If Ricky like Tania, then why you afraid?" The total innocence of Tania's questions and the way she asked them cut through any bullshit excuses that I could have conjured up.Papa told me that in your home the men are stronger than the women. But here women are stronger. Is that why Ricky afraid of Tania? My Mama told me that Papa also afraid of her at first. But then he learn not to be afraid of her. Maybe Ricky can learn not to be afraid of Tania too." Perhaps it was her women's intuition that guided what Tania did next. Or maybe she simply felt that this was the right time. But for whatever the reason, Tania reached out, put one of her strong hands under each of my armpits, gently lifted me up off the jungle floor (all two hundred pounds of me) and cradled me in her powerful arms.Come Ricky," she said softly and began to walk back in the direction of her village.Tania take Ricky to her hut. Ricky not worry, Tania be very gentle. Tania like Ricky and Ricky like Tania. Why we play little children games?" Again, the innocence and wisdom of her questions left me speechless. 10) The Next Morning I woke up the following morning in exactly the same position that I had gone to sleep the previous night, snuggly wrapped in the powerful arms of this gorgeous Polynesian Amazon woman.Good morning sleepy head," Tania said as she cuddled me. She took her strong right hand and lowered it to my penis and gently began to rub it.Tania?" I asked,How can you be so amazingly strong and yet so gentle at the same time? I mean you kill Great White Sharks with this hand and throw large crocodiles into the ocean with it. And yet with the same hand you can be so soft and gentle, as you are with my penis now." When she heard me say this Tania began to giggle.Oh Ricky, you such a silly boy; tee, hee, hee. Tania strong only when she need to be. Like when I fish for sharks to feed people of the village (I'm trying to get her to useI" instead of her name and so far it seems to be somewhat successful) or when I throw crocodile into water. But here in bed with Ricky now, I can be nice and gentle because I don't want to hurt my little Ricky (I'll work on getting her to sayyou" instead of my name later; one thing at a time)." "Today I want to take Ricky to special place, an island near here. Very nice. I think Ricky like pretty place." As our team was not doing any research that day, I accepted Tania's offer and agreed to go with her. After we finished our breakfast with Mike and Sura (where I tried to teach Tania how to use the wordsme" andmy" instead of her name) we walked down to the shore and Tania pointed to an island which I estimated to be at least five miles away.We swim to island. O.K. Ricky?" "Tania, I can swim but there's no way I can swim that far. And don't forget about the sharks. You may be strong enough to fight them, but I certainly am not. Isn't there a boat or something we can take to get there Tania?" Tania began to giggle again. We don't need boat to get there Ricky. Just hold onto Tania back - I mean MY back - like in race. And I swim us there. I swim good and will fight the sharks. Nobody ever hurt Ricky when with Tania; Oooopsy, I mean me; tee, hee." I climbed onto Tanya's large, strong back and wrapped my arms around her. Then she dove into the water and began to swim towards the island. Just like the way she ran while carrying me on her back in her race yesterday, Tania swam with superhuman speed. I have absolutely no idea how fast her powerful arms and legs were propelling us through the water, but it was fast. And she didn't seem to be exerting herself at all!Look over there Ricky," Tania said as she pointed over to our right side at what appeared to be a pod of Orca's.Papa says they sometimes called Killer Whales. But they not dangerous like sharks. I don't kill them for food. I play with them. They fun to ride like Papa said you ride on horses. Sometimes they play too rough though, so I have to punch them. But not too hard. Just enough to teach them to be nice and play good. Maybe I take you to ride one. It's fun." I don't know how long it took this incredible woman to swim the five miles or so over to the island with me clinging to her back (Jake wasn't there to time it for me), but I'm guessing that it was around a half an hour. And Tania wasn't even the least bit out of breath when we got there! Every time I think that there's nothing more that Tania can do to amaze me, she raises the bar higher. You see Ricky? We here." Then she added with a smile,And I didn't have to kill even one shark." After Tania gave me a tour into the beautiful caves and grottos on this small and uninhabited island (which I have to admit were indeed very impressive) she led me back to the beach and we sat down. After a short pause Tania looked at me and said,Papa say you and your friends will be leaving our island soon and go back to America. Is that true Ricky? Will you be leaving Tania - I mean me - soon?" Although I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, even I was bright enough to connect the dots on this one and interpret what Tania's question implied and why she had brought me to this isolated island to ask it. For reasons that I couldn't even begin the fathom, this (how many times can I use the word incredible to describe her?) incredible woman seems to have fallen in love with me. A gorgeous woman with literally herculean strength loves me? Me? A nerd who just recently received his doctorate in, of all things, cultural anthropology. I mean how boring can a person be?" "Why do you like me so much Tania? I asked after a long pause.I mean what do you see in me? You're so strong and powerful; not to mention beautiful. I've watched you since we met on the beach that day. We don't even have words in our language to describe just how amazing you are Tania. Just swimming over here with me on your back - no man who has ever lived could even begin compare with what you can do. So why me Tania?" "Because you're cute and funny Ricky. You make Tania laugh - I mean me (grin). Nobody else on my island does this; except for Papa that is. Mama tell me once that she start to love Papa because of that. On my island the women strong, the men not so much (even Tania seems to have a gift for understatement). But we women and need men to love and be loved by them back. Papa say that's the way it's supposed to be. It's because of something he calls DNA. Do you know what is DNA Ricky?" All I could do when she asked me this was smile and say,It's kind of complicated Tania." "Why everything so complicated where you come from Ricky? Here on my island, girl likes boy, boy likes girl; so they get together. Is that what you call complicated? Tania like Ricky and Ricky like Tania; what's so complicated about that?" As usual, Tania's simple - but wise - logic cut through whatever bullshit response that I could think of. As it was getting late, and we had promised Tania's parents that we would be back in time for dinner, I climbed onto her massive back again and then this human speedboat (and that was only a slight exaggeration) swam me back to her island. That night I had a lot to think about. 11) Three Weeks Later After six weeks of investigating the amazing things we've seen on this enchanted island, our research was nearing completion (that is to say our funding was running out). The team of anthropologists that I had participated with began to pack up all of their belongings in preparation for the trip back to civilization. I saidtheir" belongings because I wouldn't be accompanying them back to the United States. Like Mike had done thirty years earlier, I found that my true place was right here on this enchanted island of beautiful, super strong women. And just as Mike had found his perfect match in Sura, I too found mine in his daughter Tania. Talk about irony. Before they departed from the island however, Dr. Wilson, as our team leader, called a meeting of all the researches to discuss a very serious topic - what exactly should we report to the rest of the world about the phenomenal discoveries that we found out about the people, especially the females, that live here. And is it ethical from a scientific point of view to deliberately withhold that information. These were not easy topics to for us to decide. We all know what happens to less advanced cultures and societies (they are not called primitive anymore) when they begin to be exposed to the more advanced ones, and the results have never been positive for the former. And many times the results have been totally disastrous for the indigenous populations (think of the native peoples who had lived in both North and South America after the arrival of the Europeans for example). Did we really want to see that happen here? Dr. Wilson began her presentation.I think that we can all agree that is a society unlike any other that has ever existed in human history. And it's not just because of the amazing physical strength that all the females possess; but also how they use their strength. They don't use it to suppress others in their society that are weaker and more vulnerable than they are - which would include every man and boy on the island, and something that men have done for thousands of years - but to nurture, feed and protect the weaker members of their society; as females seem naturally disposed to do (I could swear that I saw Nancy smirk a little when she said this)." "Jake and I - along with Mike who acted as our interpreter - went to study the other three villages on the island last week to see if they differed from what we've observed here. And we saw something which surprised us. We witnessed a hair fight between two of the women there (as I mentioned earlier, that's how the women settle their differences on this island). They were fighting over a man that they both wanted for their husband. And after their fight was over, the victor helped her defeated opponent up, gave her a long hug and then led her into her hut - where they remained for the entire night." "The following morning they emerged from the hut, smiling and holding hands. And when Mike asked them what happened, the winner of the fight said that they had agreed to share the man between them until the one who lost their fight found a man of her own. Mike then asked her why she decided to do that and she laughed and said,Because this is my best friend Shera - and I don't want to lose her friendship." Dr. Wilson then grinned and asked us,Now, can any of you ever imagine that a man would say something like that under similar circumstances? I can't." Dr. Wilson then went on to say that her laboratory in the States had made some interesting discoveries regarding the samples of the island's exotic fruit that she had sent them for analysis; the fruit that we had all been eating for the past six weeks. The fruit seems to possess an unknown chemical compound that does something veryunusual" to the female body when it interacts with the female hormone estrogen. That may explain why the females on this island are so strong and powerful while the males appear to be normal." "Personally, I've noticed that I have never felt healthier or stronger in my life than I do now - and that's after consuming the fruit for only six weeks." And then Nancy added with a smile,Now, this doesn't mean that I'll be beating up any Great White Sharks or tossing large crocodiles out into the ocean anytime soon as that's probably an accumulation requiring many generations of consuming the fruit with each generation getting stronger than the previous one. But I'll be taking a lot more samples back with me so I can study them in much greater detail." After discussing all of the options that we could think of, in the end we came to the conclusion (and our decision was unanimous) to publish a very scaled down report as to what we had discovered here, so that hopefully this unique matriarchal society of peaceful people who were lovingly watched over by their strong, powerful female protectors will remain just as pure and pristine as we found it. 12) Epilogue A few days later Tania and I, along with many of the other people of the village where my research team had spent the past six weeks, stood on the makeshift dock to bid our friends farewell. And as I watched the boat leave the dock and begin to make its way out to sea, I couldn't help but feel ambivalent about their departure. For they represented the last vestiges of the life that I used to consider my own, before I came to this enchanted island of super strong women that is. Tania seemed to intuitively recognize the feelings that I was having. And despite the fact that she wasn't able to express it ineloquent English, she, as usual, seemed to know exactly what to say and do in this situation. "Maybe if you teach me good English Ricky, we can go to New York one day and I can see where you and Papa came from. I like to see place where people all live on top of each other in tall buildings. Why they do that?" Before I even had time to come up with an answer that Tania might be able to understand, my beautiful Polynesian girlfriend giggled and said, "I know what Ricky say now - it's complicated; tee, hee, hee." And as the boat slowly disappeared over the horizon, Tania lifted me up in her powerful arms and cradled me like a mother would a small child. "Ricky sad because friends go home. I understand and take Ricky back to hut now and make him feel better." And boy did she ever.
