The Burglars by M. C. Penny deals with the neighborhood burglars - and a friend Penny sat in her math class and looked across at Bill. For as long as she could remember, she had a crush on him. She knew his story. Product of a broken home, an abusive step -father ; but that didn't seem to bother her. For whatever reason one person is attracted to another, Penny was attracted to Bill. Unfortunately her affections were not recipricated -Bill hardly seemed to notice her. They were both seventeen years old. He was a star on the high school football team ; she, the no. 1 tennis player and a guard on the women's basketball team. She also lifted weights and studied karate for ten years. Penny was a beautiful, talented, athletic and intelligent girl. She could probably get any guy she wanted; except - it seemed - Bill. Several days later that was all to change. It was a clear, moonless night. Penny sat by her bedroom window looking up at the stars. As she did so, she couldn't help but notice that a certain car seemed to be returning every few minutes past the house across the street. The Johnson's were abroad for a few weeks and their house was vacant. Penny remembered that everyone in her neighborhood was warned about the rash of burglaries that were happening and they should report anything suspicious to the police. As the car drove up again, it stopped and five men got out. Penny watched one of them stand near the house while the others broke open a side window and climbed in. She walked over to her dresser and took something out. She put it in her pocket and went across the street. As she approached the' lookout ' she formulated a plan in her head. Suddenly she stopped. . . . . . . . it was Bill. "Penny, what are you doing here ?", he asked. "I live across the street - what are YOU doing here ?" as if she didn't know. "Penny, you must get away from here now "he warned. "I know - you and your friends are robbing this house, aren't you ?". "Penny please leave - you don't know these guys - they're tough and mean". Penny approached him and said in a soft voice , "I'm sorry that this is necessary ". She then landed a hard roundhouse kick to his head, followed it up with a hard punch to Bill's gut and finished him off with a solid uppercut to his jaw. In five seconds the five-foot six inch 130 pound girl knocked the six-foot three inch 225 pound football player out. She looked down at him and said quietly , " I'll deal with you later ". As Penny approached the broken window she reached into her pocket and took something out. It was a mask that she had worn for a Halloween party two weeks earlier - a batgirl mask. She smiled at the irony as she climbed through the window. Twenty minutes later she climbed back out. Penny walked over to where Bill lay - he was just regaining conciousness. She helped him to his feet. "Come on, Bill; the police will be here any minute. We've got to get to my house". Bill was groggy and didn't quite comprehend what was happening. They heard police sirens off in the distance. "Come, let's go", Penny insisted. "I've never seen anything like this", the police sargent said to the patrolman as they looked over the scene. They had recieved an anonymous phone call informing them that a robbery was in progress. When they arrived at the location the front door was wide open. As they entered the house, they saw a large man lying, face down, on a coffee table. His hands were tied to the front two legs of the table and his legs, to the back. His pants were pulled down and his rear end was very red. "The victim of a severe spanking", the sargent smirked. As they searched the house, they found another man sitting on the toilet. He had a black eye, a bloody nose, and a very swollen lip. His hands were tied behind his back and a pair of dirty panties were stuffed in his mouth. The clincher, however, was in the master bedroom. There the police found two large, muscler men lying in the bed. They were both naked. One was on his back, tied to the bedposts. The other was on top of him, also tied to the bedposts, facing the opposit direction - the classic sixty-nine position. The only clue as to what happened, was a small note they found near the bed. It read: "Good evening officers of the law. I decided to give you an easy evening - Batgirl" Penny and Bill watched from her bedroom window as the burglars were carted off in a police van. After it drove away, Penny turned to Bill and asked the obvious question. . . . why. "Why do you want to ruin the rest of your life. You have a good chance to win a football scholarship. Do you think any college will touch you if they find out about this?" Bill hung his head in shame. " I-I don't know, I. . . " At this time Bill broke down and started to cry. Instinctively, Penny hugged him(how many times did she fantasize about hugging Bill in her bedroom - but not like this). "Are you going to report me to the police ?" he cried. "Not this time. . . . . . but promise me you won't do this sort of thing again "she said. "It really doesn't matter if you do or not. . . . . . the others will tell the police everything", Bill sobbed. Penny reached into her pocket again and took out some polaroid pictures she took with a camera she found at the Johnson's house. She showed them to Bill. He stared at them in disbelief. They showed his tough gang all in their battered and humiliated conditions -just the way the police found them. Penny smiled at Bill. "I don't think your friends will be ratting on you. I told them that if they do, these pictures will be posted, along with their names, on the internet. I also told them that if they mention your name to the police, I'll be waiting for them when they get out of jail". Bill looked at her. "Why are you doing this for me ?" Penny thought for a moment and then said, " I have two reasons. First, you've had a very difficult life;with your parents divorce and that bastard step-father of yours. This could have ruined you. I think you deserve a second chance". Bill pondered this for a minute and then asked, "and the second reason?" Penny took him in her arms. She began to kiss him passionately. . . . . . . . . . and he understood. A few days later Robert Morgan - Bill's stepfather was found, battered in a parking lot near a bar he frequented. His beating was so severe that he had to spend several days in the hospital recovering. He never said who beat him up - or why - but because he was such a large and mean man, everyone assumed that it must have been somebody very, very tough. Penny and Bill lay on her bed, cuddleing after a passionate lovemaking session. He was on his back slowly running his hand through her long, beautiful hair as she rested her head on his chest. He looked at her and asked "it was you, wasn't it - you beat up my stepfather?" "Yes, that was me", Penny said. "You're my boyfriend now and nobody has the right to treat you the way he did. If he ever lays a hand on you again, let me know about it ". He kissed her. "Penny, how could I have ignored you for so long ? You're so. . . . . . . . incredible". She smiled and kissed him back; " better late than never ".
