1999 Ronnie Coleman Classic (Masters Women) By Jabber Masters Women: I don't always do this, but I tried to jot down the ages of all the women who competed at this show. Unless this show is atypical, I strongly feel the death of female bodybuilding as has been reported by some folks has been highly exaggerated. There really weren't that many Masters Women and there were plenty of young fresh new female faces at this show (many QUITE good I must say). So whoever wants to spout off about the death of female bodybuilding? Come to Texas my friend. :-) In 2nd place was Velma Erves, 40, from Red Oak, TX and a young looking 40 I might add. She was a short dark woman (either black or of mixed ancestry) with good symmetry, nice mass and an attractive package. She was a bit soft all over though, even for a show of this level. As with many shows at this level, conditioning seems more important than symmetry, as this decision reflected that. In this case, however, I agreed. In 1st place was a not old Theresa Welch, 37 from Mansfield, TX. She was tall, and unfortunately a bit "ragged" looking blonde. But she had good conditioning except for her legs, which could've been harder.
