1999 North Texas/SW USA Bodybuilding (Fitness) By -Jabber Fitness: As with other fitness shows, there were two classes, the very short, and the short. :-) In the 5'3" and under, an adorably cute competitor named Shannon Sosa came in 3rd. She was Hispanic and from San Antonio, the only thing to marr her very cute physique was a tattoo (please don't let me ramble on that tangent) around her belly button. Otherwise she had a solid mid-section, cute upper body (not massive), but really thick massive (but not defined) thighs. She did a cute Spanish-influenced routine in which she first came out with a Mariachi style cover-up and hat. This female could easily gain the room's attention with her body covered up. That cannot be said about everyone. Curiously, I pointed out to Tex how even when she ditched the cover-up, her shorts for the routine (unlike her bikini bottoms in the swimsuit round) covered up her tattoo. Hmm... In 2nd was Jennifer Cook, who had a cute face, was blonde, and reasonably well-balanced if not somewhat slight looking. Of notice, she was only 20 years of age, and if her parents didn't hang around her like glue when she was offstage, the -jabber probably would've talked to her. Uh, perhaps that was a good thing. In 1st was a woman who most definitely had the perfect Fitness physique for folks who like muscular fitness competitors. Heather McCormick had a look reminiscent of a less pumped Debi Laszewski, in other words, captivating. Who cares about what her routine was! I definitely thought she deserved to win here. In the over 5'3", 27 year old Rauquel Townley got 4th. She was black and unfortunately I believe a noticeable scar and/or stretch marks on her abs prevented her from placing higher. In 3rd was a very polished looking Akondaye Fountain, 26 years old, and also black. She was extremely cute, and had a look reminiscent of Renita Harris - not a bad thing in fitness indeed. But it seemed the judges liked the muscular girls in fitness (like minded with me), so Akondaye was a bit too slight. In 2nd was Michelle Landreth, who had a look not unlike Lori Fetrick who played Ice on American Gladiators. I pointed that out the resemblance to Tex, who agreed. Although Ms. Landreth was nowhere near as big as Lori was, 1) who knows how big Ms. Fetrick is now, and 2) Michelle was muscular for a fitness competitor. In 1st was a woman who REALLY looked like an fbb. In some ways, I found her the best balanced muscular female I saw all evening. It was almost painful to watch this young lady NOT flex as her muscles were incredible. 28 year old Jodie Meza was announced the winner, much to my approval. Dirty blonde hair color, I don't remember her routine as being the most flamboyant or best, it really seemed to me that the judges were judging these women like bodybuilders with the best, most well-balanced physique winning. Indeed Jodie was SO muscular, I wanted to see her win the overall (and flex during the bodybuilding portion. :-) ), but the overall nod went to the slightly more "marketable" Heather McCormick, who was obviously quite deserving in her own right.
