1999 IFBB North Americans (Intro) By -jabber Ah, nothing could be finer than to be in Detroit at the end of Summer. Nope, scratch that, that doesn't sound right. Okay, there's got to be a damn good reason for -jabber to travel to Detroit. Yeah, that sounds right. Luckily, the North Americans was such a reason. Plus the fact that a couple friends of mine were going to attend this weekend, and I get a chance to see Sheila Burgess in contest shape (I'd never before seen her in a show, no less in contest shape), plus I was traveling from Canada back to the States, so Detroit was an easy stopover. If that wasn't enough, I'd never seen an "amateur" IFBB show before; I was curious what it was like. The host hotel was the Detroit Marriott Renaissance, by far the most interesting building in downtown Detroit. And as soon as they get done with all the "construction/improvements", I'm sure it'll be quite a nice place. :-) The venue, the Detroit Opera House, was somewhat similar to the Majestic Theatre in Dallas (where we'd seen the Texas State just a week earlier), interesting, classy inside, much too small of a lobby, 'cept when you go outside, the Majestic Theatre opens on to the clean streets and imposing, architecturally interesting skyscrapers of Dallas, the Detroit Opera House opens to, well, Detroit.
