THE JOURNEY TO NORSELAND PART ONE THE BEGINNING by Hamlet The sun streamed through the window as the alarm went off on her mobile phone at 6 AM in Lisa's room in the house she shared with three other girls in Lea Bridge Road in Leyton North East London .She had hardly slept at all at the prospect that the next night she would be in a strange new country Norseland. She was full of excitement and at the same time fear at the thought of travelling right across the world to this strange country she knew almost nothing about. Her plans were to travel there with her close friend Stephen whom she had known for nearly 17 years. She would take the bus to Walthamstow Central and then take the overhead train to Liverpool St. From there she would take the Stansted Express to Stansted Airport. She would then take the Lufteflote flight to Haraldshus travelling on what was reputed to be the most luxurious airline in the world on what would be a luxurious flying palace on a 16 hour flight .The plane was due to leave the airport at exactly 12 midday and would arrive in Haraldshus at 6 PM.local time with one stopover at San Francisco. She had calculated that Norseland was 10 hours behind GMT. What excited her even more was the prospect of seeing her sister Joanna whom she had not seen in over a year. Joanna had now settled in Norseland in a city called Hjellskide that was somewhere in the centre of the country after Stephen had pointed it out on the map to Lisa .Joanna had now been admitted for student Residence now she had worked as a carer and nursing assistant at Hjellskilde hospital while studying for a BSC degree at Hjellskilde University in Caring and Hospital Management. Joanna had left the USA where she had lived in a city called Grand Rapids in the centre of Michigan. Although she had enjoyed her time in the USA she longed for a change .She had enough of the freezing cold winters in Michigan where the temperatures in winter could fall to -15 centigrade and had developed severe frost bite needing hospital treatment after falling in a ditch and sliding in the ice one night. Also she had enough of the crime levels in Grand Rapids, which was the still one of the safest cities in the USA, after she had been held up by a youth with a gun again at night after leaving the nearest supermarket and was forced to hand over her purse at gunpoint She had become desperate to leave Grand Rapids even though she had some enjoyable experiences there .She knew she would miss the company of her two sisters Norah and Marjory if she ever left the USA.Yet she wanted to go to a country that had a warm tropical climate the sort of climate she was used to in her country of birth South Africa. She wanted somewhere that was crime free and where the law was strictly enforced and where she would never be mugged .She also wanted to go to a country that had a free and efficient health service where she did not have to pay exorbitant costs for all her medical services and depend on private insurance companies . She had at last found that perfect country Norseland that was to become the country of her dreams. She had learnt about the country from her close friend at the nursing home where she worked Carla. Carla had seen an advertisement in the local paper in Grand Rapids for a meeting of the Norselandic Admiration Society (NAS) in Detroit .At first Joanna was reluctant to go and had told Carla that she had never heard of Norseland thinking it did somewhere in Europe not know that it was in the Pacific Ocean thousands of miles from Europe. She had just managed to find Norseland in an atlas in the Pacific Ocean, which showed it to be near Hawaii She had told Norah her sister that she had never been there before and asked her if she would she like to accompany her on holiday there. Norah had responded to her with extreme hostility as she knew something about this country being more politically active than her. She had told her it was a racist apartheid state and was in fact worse than South Africa under apartheid. The indigenous population the Papians were treated just like the Blacks had been in South Africa that Papia was in effect a Bantustan and in fact just a colony of Norseland like the Transkei. Norah had more or less told her that if she was serious about going there she never wanted any more to do with her. Still Joanna wanted to know all about this strange country especially as Carla was a member of the NAS.Carla had said she had a great time at the NAS and really recommended it to anyone. She had just visited a Norselandic restaurant in Detroit the Viking Paradise, where she had been to a barbecue where they had huge meals with every type of meat and line dancing. She also described how wonderful and sexy the Norse Men were with their blonde hair dressed in tight black leather and their huge rippling muscles and gigantic members! Joanna told Carla that she wanted to go to the next meeting of the NAS .They eventually went together with Joanna seeing it as a way of getting out of Grand Rapids and seeing the sights of Detroit 157 miles away.. They stayed together at the Best Western Hotel at Allen Park just outside the city itself where the meeting was going to be held the next day. They went to a meeting together the next night at the conference room. There were at least 100 people attending almost all women, probably desperate for a Norse Man, having heard so much about them and their sexual reputation. The meeting was addressed by a Norse Man whose name was Lars Hjalgaard. He looked so gorgeous to Carla being so muscular and tall dressed in a Cow Person outfit of a leather jacket, gloves, leather hat, black silk scarf, skin tight leather pants and black shiny boots. Next to him was his Partner Jana who was slightly bigger than him, as Norse Women were nearly always bigger than the men as this was a matriarchal society. They both looked very much alike with their blonde pony tails, except that his bulge was between his legs whereas hers was on her chest! He talked all about the benefits of NAS membership including discounted prices at Norselandic restaurants, social events, the possibility of spending a night with a Norse Man or Norse Woman, courses in Norselandic and discounted package holidays in Norseland. By the end of the evening Joanna was totally transfixed and listened in respectful silence gazing at him in wonder as he spoke in excellent English that was better than most Americans. At the end of the evening both of them were desperate for the excitement of a holiday in Norseland and for the rippling arms of a Norse Man like him .While he spoke Carla in particular could not take her eyes off him especially his enormous protruding member that was so visible under his leather pants! .She also found out where he lived which was a city called Risero in the centre of Norseland on the coast. She longed to see him again and to travel to Norseland on the next plane if possible. As they drove back on the 2 1/2 hour journey to Grand Rapids Joanna had thought of ways of travelling to Norseland as she had been so impressed at the meeting. She had picked up a brochure at the meeting on ' Bursaries to Norseland for Overseas Students. She had a long discussion with the Norse Woman Jana at the meeting who had been so helpful and friendly to her. Jana had explained that Norseland gave millions of dollars of aid to Zimbabwe As a result of its extensive aid program Norseland provided bursaries to Zimbabwean students to train at Norselandc universities of over $20000 a year plus accommodation, health care and other benefits.to train as carers and nurses in Zimbabwe .If Joanna was successful in her application she would train in Norseland for three years .She would then have to go to Zimbabwe and work as a carer and nurse under the Norse andic Aid Program and under the supervision of a Royal Aid Corps (RAC )official. If she was successful in her work in Zimbabwe she could return to Norseland and if she worked really hard she could apply and if possible be accepted for honorary Norselandic Citizenship.Joanna had told Jana that although she was born in South Africa her father was Zimbabwean and she had dual citizenship and in many ways would be happy to work in Zimbabwe as a carer especially as some of her family lived there and she longed to see them again. Since then Joanna had applied for the bursary with the expert assistance of Jana After completing the complex application forms again with Jana's assistance she had been called for an interview at the Norselandic Consulate in Chicago that was situated 181 miles to the south west. Jana had prepared her through for the interview and Joanna had managed to answer the tough interview questions. Joanna had waited in anticipation for the result of the interview and a week later had nervously opened the letter with the logo of the Norselandic Consulate. She had been accepted with the letter stating she had been very effective in answering questions at the interview. The letter ordered her to report in exactly a weeks' time to her Supervisor Ms Jules Stricthaard at Haraldshus airport. She would be enrolled for a three-year study program on a BSC IN Caring and Nursing Management at the University of Hjellskilde after which she would have to work in Zimbabwe. She would be paid a bursary of $20000 a year. She would be provided with accommodation and the full healthcare benefits of a Norselandic Citizen. She was reminded that as a foreigner or oslander she would have to scrupously obey the laws of the Nation under the loving but firm supervision of her Sponsor Ms Stricthaard. Since she had arrived in Norseland just three months ago Joanna had written effusive letters and e mails to Lisa stating that this country was a an earthly paradise with a wonderful country this was with a lovely tropical climate, where the streets were spotlessly clean, where there was no crime as the Law was ruthlessly enforced by the Police or the Judges, where there were no guns and which had the best and most effective health service in the world. She had a lovely fully furnished flat just away from the university campus with gorgeous IKEA type furniture. She constantly asked Lisa to stay with her and also to have her hip cured at the Royal Hip Hospital (Reginas Hofte Sykehus) in Varense which was world renowned for its expert medical care and where Lisa would be finally cured forever. She had told Lisa that she had sold her large in Grand Rapids for $300000 and would pay for the air ticket of $15000 and the medical care bill of $6000 from the proceeds of the sale .A week ago Joanna had sent her the air ticket as well as a letter from the hospital (RIS )stating that she had been admitted for a replacement hip operation for a week on Friday July 26th to Saturday August 3rd. Lisa had confirmed that after an extensive interview she and her friend Stephen had been granted visas and had been admitted for a three week 'holiday beginning on Tuesday July 23rd with a return flight booked for Thursday 13th August. Stephen had insisted on paying his own air fare but Joanna had refused and sent him his air ticket being such a kind and generous person, Joanna had been told by her Sponsor that her flat was too small to accommodate Lisa and Stephen and so she had booked them both at the Motel Heavena just outside Hjellsjikde at £80 or 1600 NM as night which would cost her £1680 ($2093), altogether or NM 33600.Joanna knew that even with all this spending she would be left nearly $290000 in the Bank as well as the payments from her bursary. She knew that after three years with hardly any expenses as her rent was only $200 a month , she would be able to recoup all this spending and them she would return to Zimbabwe as a fully paid employee of the RHK(Reginas Hjelpa Korps ). Then she could come back to Norseland and apply for permanent residence as an Honorary Norselandic Citizen. What a heavedmy prospect! Lisa too ferly so elated as she boarded the 69 bus from Lea Bridge Road to Walthamstow Central. She knew her prayers had been answer .She would go on a wonderful holiday to a tropical paradise, see her sister again travel and spend time with her friend Stephen and then return to England in three weeks' time in perfect health. She had a copy of the Bible opened with these words as he looked out at the gloriously sunny weather as the bus stopped outside Walthamstow central station... Her prayers had been well and truly answered! Any comments to norselandic@hotmail.com
