THE TRIAL OF ROLAND DAVENPORT

THE CROSS EXAMINATION BEGINS


Sister Eva Harvastad the Prosecutor at the Catechision Court of the Sisters of
Mercy or the Warrior Nuns, was now ready to begin the ruthless cross
examination of the atheist Professor Roland Davenport at St Agatha's Convent
in Eastly in Kent England.

She was now ready to tear his arguments to shreds.

He had just endured a hard slapping from the Court Bailiff Sister Marissa and
he was almost unconscious after the diatribe in which he had attacked religion
stating

'I refuse to answer any questions at all by a court that has no jurisdiction
at all based on a fascist state Norseland. You have no right to impose your
theocratic methods on this country. Release me now you harridans!! '

He was sitting in the prisoner stool dressed only in his underpants shivering
with the cold and fear his hands tied behind his back. Behind him sat the
Court Bailiff Sister Marissa dressed totally in shiny latex. She held him by
the neck in her latex gloved hand ready to squeeze him with her razor-sharp
fingers and ready to slap him senseless should he cause any more trouble at
all.

Next to him stood his defence counsel Sam Harrison who had been constantly
interrupted during his speech for the defence by the Mother Superior Athena,
who kept telling him that his attacks on religion were totally irrelevant to
the case and were totally offensive to her and to the other Sisters.

Sister Eva walked straight up to Davenport ready to humiliate him completely
and towered over him Her purpose was to physically and mentally humiliate
him.ahe was

speaking to the whole world as the trial was being relayed all over the globe
just like the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

'First of all, ladies and gentlemen I would like to demonstrate the
implications of atheism and why it leads to complete hopelessness and despair.
The absurdity of life without God may not in itself prove that God exists, but
it does prove in itself that it is the most important question anyone can ever
ask.'

She walked over to Davenport standing right in front of him to demonstrate her
superior height and build. She was determined to give him a thorough Tongue
Lashing.

'Right Davenport would you not accept that if God does not exist then both man
and the universe are doomed?'

She addressed him as 'Davenport' to humiliate him even more.

He did not know what to say but suddenly Sister Marissa drove her razor sharp

fingernails into his neck.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!.

'Answer the question Davenport! 'she yelled in his ear

'We err I wouldn't necessarily agree with you. 'he whined

'You address The Prosecutor as Sister Eva Davenport!' Sister Marissa screamed
in

his ear.

'Err I'm not err sure err Sister Eva' he replied feeling he was about to cry
uncontrollably right in front of the Court and the whole world

'Well would you agree yes or no Davenport?' she shouted right in his face.

'I suppose I do Sister Eva.' he retorted reluctantly terrified of Sister
Marissa's nails digging into his neck again.

'So you would agree that man like all biological animals must die?'

'Alright of course I do err Sister Eva I don't know where this questioning is
supposed to be going!'

Mother Superior Athena interrupted him.

Sister Marissa dug her nails into his neck once more

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

'The prisoner will answer the question and only the question is that
understood?'

'Yes I understand.'

Sister Marissa razor sharp fingernails into his neck and once more he let out
a groan of pain.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

'It's yes Mother Athena. You'd better start getting the right mode of address
or I might have to strap you on the strapado!'

'So, Davenport if there is no hope of immortality which you do not believe in
then man's life must lead to the grave.'. Sister Eva bellowed in his face
brushing against him with her latex gown.

'Well yes I would agree with that'd do not believe in immortality or any of
this religious nonsense.'

Again, Sister Marissa grabbed him ny the throat squeezing his adams appe in
her latex gloved hand

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! PLEASSEEE NO MMORREE!!!!

Mother Athena interjected again

'The prisoner will answer the question, will refrain from making offensive
statements and will also answer Sister Eva properly or I will hold him in
contempt of court and he will definitely be suspended upside down on the strap
ado!"'

'Do you then accept what the theologian Paul Tillich said that you will have
to face 'the threat of nonbeing' that one day all of us will not exist and
that we will definitely die?'

'Yes err Sister Eva I do accept the fact of death. I have said that before.'

'Do you also accept that the universe too faces death that the universe is
expanding galaxies are growing father apart and that there will be no light no
heat there will be no hope?'

'Yes err Sister Eva but I don't understand where your questioning is going.'.

The fact is Davenport is that unless God intervenes this is really going to
happen the entire planet and the human race is doomed!'

'Yes but I don't accept that there is a God Sister Eva.'

'Yes, but Davenport if there is no God then life as the famous atheist
philosopher Sartre has stated is absurd that life is without any meaning at
All!'

'Yes, Sister Eva except that I am interested in scientific truth only not
whether life has meaning!'

'So, then Davenport if each individual passes out of existence when he/she
dies then what ultimate meaning can be given to life or then to science or
anything you have written or anything at all?

'Well err Sister Eva I just don't accept that if life ends in death nothing
has any meaning!'

'But Davenport if life is doomed to destruction then what does it matter If
you have any influence on anything as a biologist as ultimately. mankind is of
no more significance than a swarm of bees of mosquitoes!'

'Alright then Sister Eva I accept that life has no meaning but we just have to
accept that.'

'Well then I'm glad Davenport that you accept that all your scientific and
biological work is really going to come to nothing!'

It was clear that he was being flawed by her completely. It was clear he could
not cope outside the confines of New College Oxford and inside a Convent half
naked

with Sister Marissa holding him by the neck.

'Yet the only solution all atheists like you can offer is to face the
absurdity of life and live bravely. Would you not agree Davenport?'

'Well maybe the world is a terrible place and one just has to accept it as the
philosopher Camus started, we must recognise life's absurdity and then live as
well as we can!'

'Yet the problem Davenport is that you cannot live consistently and happily

within such a world view.'

'Sorry I don't understand what you mean er Sister Eva.'.

'Well the philosopher Francis Schaeffer has explained this point. Modern man
lives in a two-story universe in the lower story is where man lives where life
is absurd yet he cannot live happily in such an absurd world. So, he makes a
leap of faith to the upper story where he has no right to go since he does not
believe in God.'

Yes, but I believe Sister Eva that one can create meaning for life by freely
choosing a course of action as I do by being a convinced Darwinian
evolutionist!'

'But Davenport this is completely inconsistent! It is inconsistent to state
that life is objectively absurd and also has meaning Philosophers like Sartre
are really saying 'Let's pretend that life has a meaning.'

It was quite clear that Davenport had never really thought seriously about
these

issues and could not answer Her

She stood imperiously over him demonstrating her knowing She was overpowering
him mentally and physically

'RIGHT LET'S MOVE ON TO VALUES AND THE SUCCESS OF OUR FAITH IN PROVIDING AN
ANSWER!!
