The Older Newsthumbs server started to act up, crashing repeatedly. And the backup of that server gave problems too! So I replaced them both with replacement hardware, and everything seems OK now. No data was lost.
All the other servers ran normally.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of July 2017, there were about 1,593,000 pictures (363 gigabytes), 548 gigabytes of video, 16647 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 912 gigabytes. There's 486,000,000 pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 2 million per month.
