I got a new server. I found it on Ebay, it's really fast (twin dual core processors), lots of memory and it was under $100. It's become my central data preparation server.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of November 2015, there were about 1,590,000 pictures (330 gigabytes), 537 gigabytes of video, 15766 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 868 gigabytes. There's 565,000,000 pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
