I've started using rsync instead of mirror.pl for backups. This is because, on two of my computers, mirror.pl doesn't work, and rather than investigate why, I decided to use a more modern method.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of April 2013, there were about 1,493,000 pictures (305 gigabytes), 431 gigabytes of video, 14560 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 737 gigabytes. There's about 585 million pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
