I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of September 2011, there were about 1,340,000 pictures (254 gigabytes), 419 gigabytes of video, 13830 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 674 gigabytes. There's about 495 million pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
