Running well. High-heels seems to be have gone back to a more sensible size. I have no idea why it got so bloated for a while.
I woke up at 2am on the 5th, and switched on the light. No light. Indeed, no electricity. So I got up and had a look round. My UPSes were beeping sadly, but all I could do was hope that the power came back soon. It didn't. It came back on a couple of hours later, so much for most of my UPSes.
When this happens, it takes me a couple of hours to bring all the servers up again. Of course, the ones at Cheltenham aren't affected, so the main servers carry on fine.
But usually, there's "consequential" damage. In this case, Sadie (where I collect email) didn't come back up, and I had to replace the power supply, and Dovda (used for backups) came up but not fully, and on investigation, a 1 tb drive was dead, and will have to be replaced and reloaded.
I also bought two new UPSes, because one of the older ones was emitting a terrible smell, hydrogen sulphide, I think. Obviously bad news. And the other new UPS is to replace a smaller one that's still working OK.
I built three new servers, each with 28 terabytes. Servers as big as this are a great economiser on electricity.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of June 2011, there were about 1,310,000 pictures (240 gigabytes), 423 gigabytes of video, 13650 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 664 gigabytes. There's about 480 million pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
