A hard man is good to beat

February 2008

The daffodils have burst into splendour, and the bluebellls are expecting a good year. We had another warm winter. I'm going out for long walks most days, enjoying the early-spring/late-winter weather.

Working fine.

Shopping Mall

A lot of the cassette-tape videos are going to be withdrawn from sale soon (people don't really want videos on tape these days); this is your last chance to buy before that happens. As an extra incentive, I'm offering them at half price! So, email me about the ones you're interested in, and I'll tell you if theyre one of the half-price ones.

Down on the server farm

Hanni developed a bad hard drive, so I switched the load onto Rheta, another server that was already mirroring it. Then I had to deal with all the "consequentials" of such a major change - it was a week before the last tiny detail was straightened out.

And that was the last of my spare servers down at Watford, so I had to trndle down there with a dozen servers, to swap good ones for the deadwood that has built up since last June. So now I should be all set for several more months. Three of the 13 that I installed have already crashed (not a problem, they aren't actually being used yet), but I expect the odd "DOA" when I do this.

Sponsorships

Most of the sponsorships now are by giving women server space and bandwidth, so they can operate their web sites without having to pay these fees. There's also photoshoots, which gets some revenue into their hands, as well as the traditional direct-funding sponsorship.

Politics and sports head the lists, but Buffy's Pub is going strong.

There's an election coming up soon in the USA

Board access

Mavis is counting the number of times the message list is checked for each board. This gives a very different picture from the one above.

Politics takes the top of the table, but there's lots of scissors too. Politics here too.

Back Page

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.

At the end of February 2008, there were about 1,001,000 pictures (94 gigabytes), 292 gigabytes of video, 11,700 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 387 gigabytes. There's about 290 million pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
