Blazing summer; a Valkyrie sitting on the lawn reading history books while the ash tree that's providing my shade dumps all it's unwanted dead leaves and twigs on me every time the wind blows.

This month, I've had no major outages :-) In fact, I can't recall any minor ones, either. So, I've been getting the next generation of servers ready; looking to the future. I hope to be able to tell you more on this next month - there's another Great Leap Forward in preparation.
The Mavica's are spreading. TomNine bought a CD-1000, and Boomer got a floppy-disk version. You can see the great pictures they took at the WSE.
On August 18th, the Newsthumbs picture count came very close to 100,000. The volume of Newsthumbs brings various interesting problems; have you ever tried to copy a gigabyte of data from one computer to another? Now try a thousand gigabytes!

Uh - I don't have a web counter.
We currently have seven running; Nicole Bass, Andrulla Blanchette, Sheila Burgess, Christine Envall, Marilyn Perret, Julia Santana, Peggy Schoolcraft. We're also sponsoring individual events, and funding athletes to go to events with grant dollars.
We also put some sponsorship money into the Jan Tana and the Women's Strength Extravaganza (WSE).
Also, we sponsored Annie Rivieccio to the WSE.
We're sponsoring Kim Callier to go to the 2001 Junior World Powerlifing competition in Sofia. Kim won the 2001 USAPL Collegiate National championship in the 148 lb weight class.
We're sponsoring Mayra Conde to go to the US Open Championships in Santa Cruz. She does No-Holds-Barred fighting, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
I get an occasional bounced email, with the reason "Disk quota exceeded". This means the the person has so much mail in their mailbox that is undeleted (and, I'd guess, unread) that it's reached the limit that the system allows. I find it *very* frustrating when someone emails me, asking a question - I answer them, and the answer bounces "Disk quota exceeded".

LPD has arrived at Gaily's place, and she's got him Gainful Employment. Apparently, Chicagoans can understand the accent spoken by Swamp Snakes, and he's making himself useful.

Mavis is counting the number of times the message list is checked for each board, and the number of times that a posting is read. This gives a very different picture from the one above.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of August 2001, there were about 390,000 pictures (20 gigabytes), 55 gigabytes of video, 5000 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 76 gigabytes.
On Vnews, the Current Newsthumbs server, there's the NewsThumbs, which is 10.8 million pictures in 755 gigabytes and 17 million text files, a total of 796 gigabytes.
Newsthumbs is now sixty six million files, 1.8 terabytes!
There's now three newsthumbs servers.
