Storm Warning By Crossmanx at - crossmanx@hotmail.co.uk - comments and ideas welcome. There's a storm coming, so be warned, she has a name! Storm Warning For a change the weather forecast had been right, there was a storm on its way, well to be precise it was here. The three men, Graham, Linford and Don had all seen the forecast for today and had all thought the same thing 'it won't be that bad!' But it was, this storm would be very bad. The plan for today was to head off and look over a piece of land that they were going to develop as an out of town business and industrial park. Just a smallish place to begin with, just a few businesses at the start, and then later to expand the place. It had been tried once before, many years ago, but not really taken off, an old disused military site that was ideal to be converted into small business and industrial area. But as the men already knew it hadn't worked out, but that was before the new link road had been put in, and now access was much better and these men knew a good thing when they saw one, and this was it. Most of the hard work had already been done for the old, but failed, business venture for this site. All these men needed to do was some tidying up and a bit of infrastructure upgrade work, then they would be in business, a good profitable business! Unfortunately, the day they had chosen to spend going around the disused site and getting to grips with the fine detail had been the day that the storm was due to hit. As they drove out the town and to the site about 4 miles out, the rain had started, light to start with but it slowly got heavier, and then the wind has started as well. Don was driving and could see the trees by the side of the road swaying gently to start with and like the rain, this slowly got stronger and stronger. About a mile away from the site the rain and wind were both quite bad, the window wipers where going back and forth as fast as they could, but visibility was poor, and getting worse. The three men where all talking and discussing if it was going to be worth going to the site today seeing how the weather was when, SCREEEEEECH! Don hadn't seen the oncoming car, until it was almost there in front him, he pulled the steering wheel hard over and just missed the other car, at the same time slamming on the breaks. Somehow, he'd managed to get out of the way of the other car and came to an abrupt halt, after a bit of a skid. For a moment, the three men in the car where all quiet, the there was a couple of 'well done's for Don from the other two. Don looked in the mirror, he could see the other car he'd nearly hit had also stopped, he could see the rear lights and brake light on the car, again there was a moment of nothing. Then the other car's brake lights went off and it slowly moved off, no one got out, no one came over to see if he was OK, or apologise. No, the other car just drove off. The three men all slated and cursed this 'other' driver, for their poor driving and nearly causing an accident, no one questioned their driver about this and if he had been to blame for this. Don himself never thought for one moment he could possibly be at fault, after all he was such a good driver! It had to be the other drivers fault, of course, that's why they left in such a hurry! At this point the rain had stared to died down a bit and the three of them aggreged that as they were so close they might as well go to the site. After all they could get out the car, Don could have a break and they could still have a look around and do what they could, considering the weather. A short while later and Linford was unlocking the padlock on the gate, pushing it open and allowing Don to drive in. Now on the site, parked up, gate closed behind them and with the rain having died down a bit more the men stared to have a walk around and inspect the area. The wind was picking up so any chance to go inside an old building and get out of the biting breeze was eagerly taken. After about half an hour of talking and looking around the three of them split up and went their own separate ways. Don was interested in the current infrastructure and what was need to get the site up and running, Linford wanted to get a feel for the layout of the buildings and their possible use and Graham was looking more into the future development of the site. The three men had been on their own for about ten minutes when Graham came out of one of the buildings and out onto what was the main car parking area near to the main gate. It was where the men had parked their car when they arrived, but now something was different, there was another car there? CRASH! Graham jumped a bit at the sound of one of the large gates slamming in the wind, which had picked up and was now noticeable a lot stronger. 'That was strange, Linford had closed the gates when they had come in?' Graham was sure of that, he walked over to the gate and even before he got to it he could clearly see the lock and chain hanging from the swinging gate. But he knew his friend had replaced the chain and locked the gates when they entered the site, all very odd!' The wind, even this strong, couldn't have forced the gates open, could it? But the wind didn't explain the extra car now parked near to Don's motor, there was obviously someone else here, BANG! Graham jumped, again and turned quickly around, but it was only the wind playing with an unlocked door on the nearby building, the man calmed down, 'how silly to jump like ... . What!' Near to the door, slamming back and forth in the wind, was a window, an old rusting, shabby widow, with broken glass, and a window that 'someone' had just quickly walked past, whilst inside the building! Graham had seen someone, he'd just caught sight, a fleeting glimpse of someone rushing past that window, but it wasn't any of his friends as this figure was wearing a ... ... BANG! Another door started to slam backwards and forth, 'bloody wind!' Graham calmed himself down, the rain, which was coming down harder now, and the wind, which was not giving up, were all making this more frustrating for the man. He took a breath and, now that he'd calmed himself down, stormed over to this other slamming door and to where this 'person' he'd seen, would probably be. As he got to the door he sent his hand forwards onto it and pushed, shoved, the door open, determined to find the owner of the car and the person playing silly buggers in the building, he was so ... ... THUD! OOOOWWW! When Graham had pushed that door open and stepped inside all he saw was an old disused, dirty, neglected office. In the second he stood there and took this all in, he saw no one, that was because the 'someone' was behind the door, out of the way! They'd caught the door being pushed open, waited a second and now drove it hard into the unaware man stood there! Caught completely off guard and not expecting anything like this Graham had been sent flying, off his feet, off to the side, by the door that had slammed into him. He staggered, tumbled and crashing down onto a couple of old wooden chairs that had been placed in just the right sport for him to fall onto! The old office filled with the sound of an astonished man's cries of surprise and then his thundering fall onto the chairs. Another brief second went by as the man tried to fathom out what had just happened to him. He managed to work out he'd been pushed, he'd fallen, the chairs he'd landed on hurt, he was now on the floor and there was a woman he'd not seen before about to, WHACK! OOUUUWWW! Graham caught sight of a woman, he could make that much out, rushing up to him as he lay there on the floor and the next thing he saw was something brown and boot shaped heading towards his face and, 'It hurt!' As the man reeled around on the floor clutching his throbbing face while he felt the blood trickle through his fingers on onto the floor, he could hear the sharp sound of footsteps getting louder and THUD! OOOUUUHHH! He felt a strong blow to his side, something hard, like a boot had been drilled into his body as he was on the floor trying to deal with the first blow to his face, WHACK! There was a second blow to his body this time harder, sharper and one that took his breath away, but it was the third blow that did the damaged CRACK! ARRRRHHHHH! That blow caught him straight in the ribs, the sound that filled the disused office must have been one of ribs, cracking, popping, breaking! He didn't know which, he didn't care, all he was sure of was the pain that now had hold of him and the difficulty he was having trying to get his breath. This wasn't good, not in the least and Graham had no idea what to do, he just prayed that ... ... OOOOOOWWWW! Before another thought could go through his head he was grabbed and felt himself being dragged, painfully, up off of the floor. But then his eyes focused on 'OH SH ... ... !' SMACK! Graham stood no chance, after being grabbed and hauled up by his hair all he saw was that oncoming brick wall that his face was slammed into and then it all went dark. This one, this man, after being slammed head first into the buildings grubby wall, was out cold and for the woman that was one down! Elsewhere, Linford had had a good walk around, even though he had to battle against the rain and that driving wind, he got around most of the place. He felt now he had a good idea about the layout of the place and already had some ideas about what type of firms and businesses would be suitable for here. He was making his way back over to find the other two and heading towards the car when suddenly he stopped. Across the open carpark area, he could see their car, and a second car close by, also that the main gate, that he knew he'd shut and locked was now open. But the thing he noticed most of all was lying on the floor in front of Don's car, "Graham!" The stocky black man was shocked, 'what's happened to Graham, has there been an accident?' Linford was just about to rush over to help his friend, when, THUD! OUCH! He'd been hit by something hard, a stone maybe or something like that, "what the hell!" He spun around to see if he could see anyone, well someone must have thrown it and ... ... 'There!' There, over by that building was ... ... Was a woman? For a moment, or two, Linford looked at the woman, then back to Graham who was on the floor over by the car, a disturbing thought entered his head 'surly not?' THUD! OOWWWHHHH! There was a second, and now painful, blow to his body 'She's throwing rocks at me!' Linford couldn't quite believe what was happing, then he actually saw the woman reached down, pick up something and throw it at him 'Shit!' He quickly jumped out the way, just in time and then the woman ran off around the building and out of sight! He quickly put two and two together and was now running after the woman, he was running into the strong wind and this was going to slow him down, mind you the way she was dressed he'd spot her easily. The woman was at best 20 something, but so far, the two men that had seen her hadn't had a good long look at her, just fleeting glances. But 20 something was probably right. She was dressed in a pair of long brown boots, tight beige riding jodhpurs and, this was why she'd be easy to spot, a bright pink long sleeved top. The top was tight, so even at a distance it was easy to see she was a shapely female, and her shoulder length fairish hair added to her noticeable and good look. As Linford battle the strong wind and made it to the building he was more concerned about what this was all about than anything else, after all she was running away from him so she was no real threat to him. By the building and out of the wind it was now easy to move, he speed up and rushed around the corner of the building to ... ... WHACK! UUUUHHHH! Not looking where he was going he ran straight into and upcoming boot as he went around the corner. The blow was perfectly timed for boot to meet jaw, as Linford appeared, sending the man backwards, almost tripping over his own feet. As he staggered back he tried to regain his balance, knowing he was going to fall if he didn't do ... ... THUD! OOOWWW! But two boots suddenly griped him around his head, stopping him falling but where now holding the shocked man there in that place. The woman was now hanging from a set of pipes, up high, that ran from this building to a neighbouring building. It was almost as if 'someone' had known these handy pipes where there, and had planned to use them! The man was steady on his feet now, no chance of falling, he looked straight at the woman, she was smiling, then WHACK! OOOUUUU! She moved her legs, pulled her boots away from his head, then, harshly, slammed those boots back into the side of his head. The boots slapping him made Linford's face screwed up in pain, then he staggered forwards. The woman quickly hooked one boot around his head, pulling him forwards so she could wrap her legs around his head and WOOOSSSHHH! THUD! ARRRRHHH! She released her hold on the high pipe, twisted herself around in mid-air, still with her legs around his head and flipped the man over, taking him down to the floor. Linford landed with a hard thud on his back on the floor, knocking the wind out of him at the same time as the woman came down on top of him, pinning him to the ground, then WHACK! SMACK! THUD! On top of him she now proceeded to beat him, her fists quickly rained down smashing his face and upper body. His jaw, eyes, nose where all her targets and soon her last almighty fist went in and Linford was the second man to fall and out cold. She wasn't that impressed, for a strong looking man he didn't last long! Last of the trio was Don, the driver, he'd also had a good look around the place and was excited with all the ideas that were now buzzing around in his head. As he reached the carpark where his car was when the man stopped, the wind was at its strongest now and he was buffered about as he stood there in the open, looking at his car. There in front of his car, laid out in front of his car, was Graham and Linford! Don had a very uncomfortable feeling, he looked around, there was another car, that sort of looked familiar parked nearby to his? He looked around again, the gates to the site where all closed and the chain and padlock was still on them, so how did this car get in? 'What was going on?' The rain and wind were getting more intense, there was a major storm on its way, he could feel it, but more importantly 'what was going on here?' He started to make his way over to his car BANG! A door slamming in the howling wind made him turn around and there stepping out of one of the old buildings was a woman, she walked towards him and then suddenly stopped, and look at him. They stood there for what seemed like an age just staring at each other, the man in his jacket and warm cloths, but starting to feel the rain starting to seep through his jacket now, and the biting wind digging into him. And there was the woman, she wasn't dressed for this weather, she was soak wet through, her cloths were clinging to her and dripping wet. But she didn't show any sigh that the rain or wind were having any effect on her, she took no notice of it, she just starred at Don! The wind buffered the man about even more as it intensified, it seemed to get stronger as every second ticked by, it even made him stagger a step of two, but the woman just stood there and didn't move. Don was worried, a touch scared maybe? What was all this about, and what had happened to Graham and Linford? He looked from his fallen friends back at the woman who now started to slowly walk towards him 'Shit!' Don, turned and ran, he ran into the wind and towards one of the buildings, he didn't know why he ran, he just did. There was a storm coming, it was in the air and he needed to get away. Doris, the woman, grinded, a runner, in an old disused site, 'that's better, some fun at last!'. The woman made after the man, Doris was on her way. Yes, there was a storm coming, a strong powerful storm, a twisting, twirling storm that was going to wreak havoc and her name was Doris ... ... !
