Ugly Girl By A.J. He had a very successful sales career and was the sales manager at a successful marketing firm that did all of their sales over the telephone. He made well over one hundred thousand dollars a year and since all of his income was a percentage of what his sales people sold, he didn't really even have to work especially hard. His boss, Paul, pretty much let him run the show as long as things stayed under control. Travis drove a Lexus, had a huge house, and he still had more money than he knew what to do with. He was also in good shape standing at just under six feet tall and weighing right around 170 pounds with an athletic frame. He spent a great deal of his free time exercising. The only thing missing from Travis's life was a woman. It didn't make sense to him and it actually really bothered him. Because of all of his favorable qualities he thought women would be lining up for. He was relatively young, in good shape, and he made plenty of money. Yet he couldn't seem to find a woman that was interested in him to save his life. He'd go out with girls, hang out with them a couple of times, think everything was going great, and then they would just lose interest in him. They'd either break it off or just stop taking his calls. Then he'd often see them with some loser a few weeks later. His standards weren't particularly high either and even girls that weren't very good looking with no ambition still didn't seem interested in dating him. Travis's sales team was pretty good overall but he still lacked a real superstar that produced the way that he did back in the days when he used to sell fulltime. He constantly had ads out for new sales people but most of the candidates that applied were complete garbage. Then one day he heard a different kind of message on his voicemail. "Hi Travis, my name is Carly" a sweet sounding female voice said on the message. "I saw your job ad and I am very interested in the position. If you could call me at your convenience to discuss it further I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much Travis!" Her voice was probably the sweetest voice he had ever heard and he actually listened to the message again just to hear her voice again. It sent tingles down his spine just to listen to her. There wasn't a single female on his sales team and he always thought that a girl would be able to sell better over the telephone since they are probably less likely to be rejected. The other thing that Travis couldn't overlook either was that this was a potential girlfriend for him. He knew that dating his employees was not a good idea but the older he got and remained single, the less he cared about anything else than finding himself a girl. Girls he dated normally rejected him but if a female employee saw how powerful he was in the workplace he thought there was a much better chance that she'd have some interest in him. Travis waited in his office for their scheduled interview together and he actually felt nervous. He was the one giving the interview yet he was still the one that was nervous. That was how he was, though. He could manage a team full of meathead salesmen, talk to big business executives over the phone and get tens of thousands of dollars from them, but he was always nervous talking to girls. A girl walked in his office and he knew that it was Carly. He couldn't help but be disappointed immediately when he saw her. She had somewhat short hair that went about halfway down her neck in the back and about down to her chin in the front but her hair looked like straw. She also looked like she was stoned, not because Travis actually thought that she was, but just because her eyes were extremely droopy. She had one of the biggest noses that Travis had ever seen and since her face was kind of small, and her body as a whole was pretty petite, it made her big nose look even bigger. She had a big smile on her face the second that she walked into the office and her teeth definitely looked like they could use a little bit of whitening. She definitely did not have a pretty smile as her face as a whole was the furthest thing from pretty. But the smile did show happiness and an overall positive attitude which Travis thought was nice to see. She had quite a bit of freckles on her face which didn't help matters either. He looked at her hands. They were wrinkly and her nails definitely looked like they could use some work. Other than her many shortcomings she looked like she had some potential. She wore a navy blue business outfit with a business coat up top and a tight skirt on. She wore even darker navy blue pantyhose which showed off her well-defined calf muscles which looked good on her small frame. She had a pair of heels on that brought her up from probably about 5'2 to about 5'4. "Travis?" she said to him and once he heard that recognizable voice that he heard on the phone he had no doubt that this was Carly. "Hi, I'm Carly. Nice to meet you." They shook hands and even though her hand felt soft and girly, he could feel that she definitely had some strength in her arm, at least more strength than he would have expected in the arm of such a small girl. They looked at each other and smiled as they shook hands. The benefit to Carly being ugly to Travis was that he felt completely comfortable around her. "Yes, Travis" he said back to her. "Nice to meet you." They proceeded with the interview and Carly was just the perfect candidate. She was friendly, she spoke very confidently, and just used the language of a competent professional. The sales guys that Travis currently had on his team were good, but just by the way Carly spoke, Travis had a quick feeling that she could have far more success than anyone he currently had. "So that's it" Carly said sweetly when it appeared that they were all done. "I'm very interested in the position and I hope you will consider me for it. Travis wanted to offer her the position right there but he didn't want to sound too desperate so he figured he'd at least wait a day. They shook hands and she gave him a smile that wasn't necessarily pretty but it was still a smile that put a big smile on his face. Travis was a bit disappointed that Carly wasn't prettier because if she was she would definitely be a girl that he'd like to get to know better. But either way she would definitely be getting this job. It was Carly's first day of working and Travis was definitely excited about what having her on board would mean for the company. Since all of their business was done on the telephone they had a casual dress code around the office. Carly definitely must have noticed that at her interview because she was dressed quite casually. She had on a pink Abercrombie zip-up up top with a white t-shirt underneath it. She wore a tight pair of jeans and a white pair of sneakers on that had pink lining to them and they actually matched the top she was wearing very well. The outfit she had on was very cute and if it weren't for her ugly face she would have looked very cute walking into the office. "Travis, what's up!" she said with extreme enthusiasm as she walked towards him. Travis was used to people putting on a bit of an act on their first day of work but even with that in mind, Carly looked more excited than he had ever seen anyone to start working. She had a huge smile on her face and when she walked towards Travis she held her hand up to give him a high-five. She actually grabbed his hand and shook his arm quite a bit which shook him. Maybe it was just because she was being a bit aggressive but this girl, who was about 5'2 and couldn't weigh more than 120 pounds, her arm felt like it was stronger than Travis's was. Travis got Carly the sales script, started training her, and she seemed to be the model employee. She was extremely receptive to everything Travis told her and she was very coachable. She practiced hard and she was ready to get on the phone and start selling faster than any rep that Travis had ever seen. Once Travis let her loose and let her start making sales calls, it was clear that Carly was a harder worker than he had ever seen, and certainly a harder worker than anyone else on Travis's team. For every one call that anyone else on the team made, Carly made two. Her hard work paid off and she ended up getting a sale on her first day which had never happened at the company before. She didn't stop there either. She continued to work hard and she was quickly making her way to becoming the top performer on the team. In addition to enjoying watching how hard Carly worked, Travis loved listening to her makes sales calls just to hear her voice. Her voice was sweet and enchanting and Travis could just imagine that getting a call from a voice like hers and not actually seeing what she looked like would make it difficult not to buy from her. Travis also liked that this girl definitely wouldn't stand a chance in outside sales because of her looks so there was a better chance she would stick around. She greeted Travis the exact same way every morning when she came to work - she'd give him that high-five where she'd grab his arm and kid of tug it a little bit. And every morning when she did it, it would remind Travis that she seemed to have a pretty strong arm - and that she might have a stronger arm than him. It was 3 p.m. on a Friday afternoon one day and the team was starting to lose their focus. It typically happened and there wasn't a whole lot Travis could do about it because it was so late in the week that even if he really pushed for them to keep making their calls he knew their heads wouldn't be in the game. He would normally just let it fly and make sure they worked extra hard when they came back on Monday morning. That particular Friday, the guys started challenging each other to arm-wrestle. So there they were arm-wrestling in the sales area trying to see who was the strongest. Travis watched them go at it but he didn't partake - he was in good shape at his size but most of his sales guys were big weight lifter type guys, some of them even looked like they took steroids. He wouldn't stand a chance against any of them so he just watched as they took turns going at it. As he watched one arm-wrestling match he heard the sweet sound of Carly's voice. She was still on a sales call. Travis couldn't believe it. He didn't expect her to partake in the arm-wrestling or anything but he figured that once she saw that everyone else had shutdown for the week that she would have as well. But that wasn't the case. She just went about making her calls and doing her work with that sweet voice of hers while the rest of the employees screwed around. 5 p.m. came and every one of his salespeople was out the door to go to the bar. Everyone except for Carly that was. She was actually still on a call that she was finishing up and based on listening to it, she wasn't rushing it or anything. She was taking her time and in no hurry to leave. Travis listened to her sweet voice as she finished up the call. He admired her so much. "Oh hey Travis" Carly said when she hung the phone up and saw him standing there. "I think I got that one!" She smiled at him and even though her face was ugly with that big nose of hers, it was such a sweet, genuine smile that Travis couldn't help but think it was pretty. "Thank you" he said to her. "Thanks for what?" she asked as she started to do a little bit of paperwork. "Thanks for continuing to work hard today while everyone else was screwing around at the end of the day" he told her. "That's extremely admirable." "Yeah well" she said and then Travis detected a little bit of arrogance in her voice. "I saw them doing that and I was actually considering challenging you to arm-wrestle. But I didn't want to embarrass you in front of the team." She then gave him another ugly but pretty smile but this one was different from the other ones she had given him. This smile actually had a little hint to it like she thought she was better than he was. Every morning when they slapped hands Travis thought about the fact that this girl might be stronger than he was. Was she thinking the same thing? "Yeah, funny" Travis said extremely sarcastically since his male ego felt the need to stick up for himself. "Oh, you don't think I'm stronger than you are?" she said and she certainly sounded confident about herself. "Feel my muscle." She flexed and she had long sleeves on so Travis couldn't really see her muscle, even though her arm as a whole looked small. She smiled like she was so proud of her muscle and Travis walked over to feel it. He felt her bicep and it felt strong alright. Probably stronger than his. But he looked at how small she was and he still just didn't think that she could actually be stronger than him. "Yeah, that's very nice" he said with quite a bit of sarcasm in his voice. "Alright, that's it" she said with a smile. "We're arm-wrestling right now." She walked over to the table that the sales guys had been arm-wrestling on and she put her right arm on it in the arm-wrestling position. She looked determined to prove she was stronger than Travis was and he pretty much had no choice but to accept her challenge. He walked over and locked his hand with hers in the arm-wrestling position. He looked at her fingers as they did it. Her fingers were small and wrinkly and she really, really could have used a manicure on her nails that weren't even painted. But he hand felt so soft when their hands were locked. Holding hands with her just felt right. "Ready?" she said to him. "One, two, three, go!" The match began and Travis could tell immediately that he was in trouble. He pushed at her arm and he could feel the strength in her bicep as he did it. He could not move her arm at all and it was actually hurting his bicep the more he pushed. They stayed in a stalemate for a bit but not for long. Carly then took control and although Travis was able to make sure she did it slowly, he wasn't able to stop her. He did not want to lose to his female employee but there was nothing he could do about it. He pushed as hard as he could but her arm was stronger than his and she continued to push his arm down. Her small hand pushed his hand to the table and she took the victory. He let go of her hand and he felt extremely humiliated. "Good match" she said right after and she shook his hand to take away any resentment he may have had towards her for beating him. "Good match" he said and the way she reacted he felt he had no choice but to be a good sport about it. "Don't worry" she said as she packed her stuff up and got ready to leave. "I won't tell anyone, I promise. I'll see you on Monday." She had that sweet smile on her face as she said it and then she left. Even though Travis was embarrassed that Carly defeated him, he couldn't help but have even more admiration for her after that. She was a hard worker and she was a great salesperson - and she was stronger than he was. Time came to do monthly sales numbers and Carly had blown the rest of the sales guys out of the water. She actually had a better month than Travis ever had, although he didn't tell that to the team. It was good for Carly because she made a lot of money but with her on the team the company had broken their record for sales in the month. It was Wednesday and they normally only did company happy hours on Friday but this news was so good that they didn't want to wait - they all went to the bar to celebrate. Drinking time was always fun for the company and they were all having a great time at the bar. The fact that they had done so well over the past month was making everyone get along better as well. Travis and Carly were especially getting along. They were talking, joking around, and they were really hitting it off. As the evening went on, people slowly started slipping out. When just about everyone was gone, Travis looked at the time to see that they had been there for over five hours. He didn't know where the time had gone. He was having so much fun that he didn't even realize it. Him and Carly ended up being the last two there and each of them still had a full drink they needed to finish. They both looked pretty tipsy. "You are so awesome as a manager" she said to him with that sweet tone in her voice and she sounded so genuine when she said it. "You've taught me so much about sales and you motivate me so much." "You're so awesome as an employee" he said to her and their faces were getting closer to each other's with every word they said. "You're doing so much for this company and it is greatly appreciated." And the next thing Travis knew, the two of them were making out. The alcohol in him made it easy to ignore that big nose of hers as the two of them mutually went in for the kiss. And while they were making out their eyes were closed so Travis didn't have to look at her face anyway. But this kiss felt perfect. He made a decision right there and the alcohol had nothing to do with it - Carly was the one for him. When they stopped kissing they would just look at each other with sweet looks and then drink some more. It seemed that things felt so right between the two of them that silence was fine. They'd drink a bit and then make out some more. When they finished their drinks they held hands as Travis walked her to her car. "You want to come home with me?" Travis asked her and then he blushed a bit when he did. "That is, if you don't feel OK to drive. I could always drive you back to your car when you sober up." "Thanks bud" she said and she gave him a friendly punch in the shoulder. "But I'll make it home OK. I'll see you at work tomorrow though." They kissed one more time and Travis didn't want it to end. He drove home feeling on top of the world. Nothing could have brought him out of the happy state he was in after hanging out with Carly all night. And it wasn't just the alcohol because he still felt the same the next morning. He wasn't even worried about things being awkward at work that day. Because Carly was the one for him and there was no reason it would be awkward. "Hey Carly" he said and he gave her a discreet, sweet look when she arrived that morning. "Hey bud" she said and Travis liked that pet name she seemed to have picked out for him. She gave him her normal hand slap and pulled at his arm like usual to remind him that she was stronger than him then went to her desk. It was close to lunchtime and Travis couldn't think of better way to spend his lunch then to take Carly out. He saw that she was on the phone so he wrote the words 'Can I buy you lunch?' on a piece of paper and put it in front of her. She looked at him with a sweet smile and nodded. He drove as they went out to lunch and they were talking and getting along great. She was so easy to talk to and Travis liked her company a lot. They sat down at a table and the waitress gave them their menus. Carly then looked at Travis with a focused smile on her face. "So I need to tell you something" she said to him. "What happened last night - I was pretty drunk, I'm not gonna lie. Probably shouldn't have even driven home. And I'm not sure what you think of the whole thing. But I want to let you know right now that I am not interested in you that way." It had only been one night but Travis still felt his heart break in half since it felt to him like what happened had been a long time coming. And he may have never felt that good like he did from the point that their lips made contact up until that point right there. He was heartbroken and he tried to rationalize it in his head. "Is it because you don't want to date your manager?" he asked her and he sounded desperate when he said it. "Because I promise you that we can do this without it getting in the way of our jobs at all." "I know that could be done" Carly said confidently. "It has absolutely nothing to do with that. I'm just not interested in you in that way. Now let's enjoy our lunch." "Here are your drinks" the waitress said and it was the worst timing for Travis as anything he wanted to say in response to Carly was interrupted by her setting the two iced teas in front of them. He didn't say another word about it the rest of the meal since Carly had sounded very certain of herself that that was how she felt. And since they had to go back to work he didn't want to pull anything unprofessional. So they had their lunch with Travis never feeling more devastated. Carly looked as happy and carefree as could be. "Mind if I sneak out of here a bit early today?" Carly said to him the next day at work. "I have a dentist appointment at 3:30." "No, of course not" he said to her. He hoped that she might say more. "Thanks" she said and then she gave him a sweet smile and went to her desk. Travis had been thinking about things overnight anyway and he figured he would just be patient. He was still really interested in Carly and a part of him hoped that she might come around and decide she was interested in him. She was doing great at her job so he didn't expect her to be going anywhere. If he just played it cool at work and continued to show her what a catch he was, he felt that he might be able to win her over, over time. It was now 4 p.m. on Friday and the sales team was really starting to shutoff mentally like normal. Travis, on the other hand, had a lot of work to do that he was at his desk doing. But he could hear the sales guys talking to each other as they waited for the clock to tick so they could leave. "Where's Carly?" one of the guys asked. "She left early for a dentist appointment" another one of them said with a tone of voice like he was making fun of her. "If I were her I wouldn't be worry about the dentist until I got that nose of mine fixed" the original guy said. "How can she walk around with such a large schnoz?" "She doesn't have the prettiest teeth either" another guy said. "She needs a dentist too but she needs about ten appointments right in a row." "Ever get a good look at her fingers?" another guy said. "The best manicure in the world couldn't make her hands look pretty." And Travis continued to listen in anger as every guy on his sales team laughed and joked to each other about Carly's looks. It made Travis furious. This was the girl that he had a crush on. And he couldn't even go out and defend her because he feared it would clue them in that he liked her. How would his sales team ever respect him if they knew he liked a girl that they thought was so ugly? And how would they respect him if they knew that she shot him down? So he just sat there and listened as they mocked her appearance. Every guy in that office clearly thought she was ugly. So why wasn't she interested in Travis? It drove him crazy. Time went on and Travis continued to try to play it as cool around Carly as he could. She was her same, happy self all of the time and Travis did respect that she never tried to use the fact that she turned him down against him. She still worked hard enough to be the top producer every month, was always in a good mood, and she still always greeted Travis in the morning by slapping him five and tugging his arm to remind him she was stronger than he was. A couple of weeks later, on a Friday afternoon, things were starting to wind down. "So who is this guy you're seeing now?" one of the sales guys asked Carly. Travis felt anger in his stomach the second he heard that. Carly had shot him down but he still had hope that she'd change her mind and decide she was interested in him. So he did not want to hear that she was seeing some other guy. He made sure to listen carefully to their conversation from that point forward. "Just some guy" Carly said with her ugly smile that Travis thought was beautiful and he saw her start to blush. "Just some guy, eh?" the sales guy said back. "Is he on Facebook?" Travis watched Carly nod and then start pulling up Facebook on her computer. He couldn't help but walk over there and be nosy. Even before Carly loaded the page, she had this smile on her face like she was really into whoever this guy was. When Travis got close enough to her desk, Carly actually turned the computer screen so he could see. "His name's Jeremy" Carly said to the sales guy. Travis couldn't believe what he saw when he saw the picture of Jeremy. The guy had to weigh close to three hundred pounds of pure fat. He was dressed in all black yet his skin was as white as could be. He was just an ugly guy overall and Travis could not believe that Carly chose this guy over him. "So what's he do?" Travis asked trying to sound casual but actually really wanting to know what kind of career this guy that looked like a loser had. "He's not really working right now" Carly said like it was no big deal. "So lots of dates at home in front of the TV?" one of the sales guys joked. "Nah" Carly said. "I pay for him when we go out. I do pretty well for myself here so it's no big deal." Carly talked to the sales guys about him a bit more but Travis wasn't even listening. He was in shock. This ugly girl had completely shot him down yet seemed really into this overweight loser that didn't have a job and she even had to pay for all of the time when they went out. She could have a better looking guy that could treat her to whatever she wanted yet she chose Jeremy. It was blowing Travis's mind but it didn't make him want her any less. It actually made him want her more. He was determined after that. He was showing up to work everyday dressed extremely nicely and always wearing cologne to make himself as attractive as possible. He was spending even more time at the gym to be as fit as he could be. And he was working harder than ever so he could make even more money. He wanted Carly to think that he could buy her a new BMW if she wanted one. Whatever he had to do, he was going to win her heart. Travis knew he had to be patient but it was tough. Now that everyone at work knew about Jeremy, Carly was always talking about him and she seemed extremely happy. He remained unemployed and Carly even admitted that he smelled bad yet she still showed no signs of wanting to break up with him. But then the day came when Travis came to work early and Carly was already there. She was sitting at her desk looking extremely miserable. He thought it was a pretty sad sight seeing a girl that wasn't given the best looks from God, sitting there looking sad about life. "You alright?" he asked her sounding concerned. "Yeah, I'm OK" she said unconvincingly. "Jeremy and I broke up." Travis tried to hide his excitement. No one else was there yet. Carly was sad and weakened. And there Travis was to comfort her. It couldn't be more perfect. "So sorry to hear that" he said. "But people get back together a lot. You two will probably work it out." "No, no, no" Carly said and the convincing salesgirl looked right in his eyes like she was completely sure of what she was saying. "He cheated on me. It is OVER! You would never do that to a girl, would you?" "No, of course not" he said. "I can't believe he did that" Carly said and she shook her head. "I'm so sorry" Travis said trying not to look happy that he heard his best news in a long time. "Don't be" she said and then she smiled. "Life goes on. I'm going to break another sales record this week and go on with my life!" She winked at Travis and got ready to work. Most girls he knew would try to use bad news like that as an excuse to miss work for a week but Carly kept her positive attitude and got right to work. He really admired her and he continued to be more attracted to her. Travis continued to play it cool at work not wanting to push his luck. But Carly had been acting friendlier to him than ever and he just had a feeling this time that he finally had his opportunity. A few days later, right after she got back from lunch, Carly walked up to Travis's desk to talk to him. "You know, we should get a drink after work today" she said to him. "Been awhile since we had a drink. You up for it?" Travis was definitely up for it. He knew what happened last time they drank together and he knew that she knew too. "Yeah sure" he said playing it as cool as possible. "Sounds good." She smiled at him and walked to her desk. "When was the last time you went on a vacation?" Carly asked him when they were enjoying their first beer at the bar after work. "Jeez" Travis said. "Been over a year." "Wow" she said and she just seemed really interested to talk to him. "You work too hard. You need a vacation." They talked more about that and they talked about other things. Carly was extremely easy to talk to and she was showing more interest in Travis then any other girl he had ever hung out with. Most girls just wanted to talk about themselves but Carly wasn't like that. She was so perfect. There was no kissing between them, even after quite a few drinks, but the conversation was great and Travis felt it was coming soon. "We better get going" Carly said after they each had six drinks a piece. "If we drink too much more here then neither of us will be driving home. Want to walk me to my car?" He did just that. He felt chills go through his body as he walked her to her car feeling sure that he'd be getting a good night kiss if not more. He thought about trying to hold her hand but he didn't. He figured going for that kiss right before she got in her car would be perfect. There was no one else in the parking lot making it even more perfect for that good night kiss. "Thanks" she said once they got to her car. "Good night." She smiled at him with her ugly smile that only Travis could see the beauty in. She had to be grateful that such a good looking and successful guy would want to kiss her if the best she could do besides him was Jeremy. He went right in for the kiss until he felt her hand press against his chest and stop him. "No, no, no" she said with a smile and Travis couldn't believe it. "We've talked about this, Travis." "Carly, come on" he said a bit impatiently. He went in for the kiss more aggressively and Carly's strong arm was more forceful to stop him. "I said 'no'!" she said assertively with that sweet voice of hers. Travis didn't care. He kept pushing in and went right in for the kiss. Before he could kiss her he felt her punch him right in the mouth. Her fist was quite small and it wasn't a knockout punch by any stretch of the imagination. But she hit him hard and it was definitely enough to hurt. Hitting girls wasn't Travis's thing but the instinct of taking a punch to the mouth after six drinks took over. He threw a punch right back at Carly but she moved her head and he missed. She stepped away from her car and all of the sudden the two of them had their fists raised to fight in this parking lot. Carly looked small but the way her fists were raised she looked ready to fight. Travis's mouth was hurting him and he was ready to fight more. He was not going to let this girl get away with punching him in the face like that. They danced around a little bit before either of them threw the first punch. Travis threw another punch at Carly and she got out of the way again. He threw another that missed and Carly followed that up by punching him right in the mouth again. That punch hurt even more so he punched right back. But he missed again and then Carly punched him right in the nose. Even though her fist was very small, that punch in the nose really hurt Travis. His eyes watered up and he bent over. Carly didn't stop and she punched him in the cheek again so he covered his face up. She then punched him twice in the head which made him look up again. And when he looked up he saw Carly's fist coming right at his face against. She punched him right, square in the eye and it immediately knocked him right on the ground. She stood above him seeing if he was going to get up but the wealthy businessman was down for the count. "I really wish it didn't come to that" Carly said. She then got in her car and drove away. Going to work that next day was not something Travis was looking forward to. Carly had given him a black eye and he didn't know what story he was going to tell to all of his sales guys who would definitely ask. That was, if Carly didn't go in the office and tell them already. He showed up a bit late that day and Carly was at her desk. She didn't look at Travis when he walked in. "Travis!" Paul called from his office once Travis walked in the door. "I need to see you." That was the last thing Travis wanted to do with his black eye. He walked into Paul's office, had a seat, and Paul closed the door behind them. "You're fired" Paul said, always being the kind of man that cut right to the chase. "What?" Travis said with disbelief. "Why?" "Carly told me what happened" Paul said and now Travis knew he had to come up with something quick. "Wait, wait!" Travis said defensively. "She was the one that came on to me! I don't care what she says." "I don't care if you did come onto her" Paul said to him. "That's part of the fun of making a lot of money is hitting on girls. That black eye of yours tells me everything. Carly has been blowing away any sales numbers that you had when you were selling. And now we find out that she can also beat you up. She's a better salesperson than you and I need someone tough to run my sales team. And she's tougher than you. Not to mention she comes at a cheaper price. I'm replacing you with her. Don't clean out your desk. We will mail you your belongings. It's for your own good to save you the embarrassment." Travis considered trying to twist the story around but he knew it wouldn't do any good. Paul was a smart guy and he could always tell who was lying and who was telling the truth. If Travis tried twisting the story, Paul would have called Carly in the office, and they both would tell their sides of the story. More embarrassing details would be exposed and Travis would end up fired anyway. Travis walked out of Paul's office in complete shame.
