Best Friends For Never - Part 1 Archie Fan betty_cooper72@yahoo.ca After a fight with her BFF Betty, Veronica makes a rash wish on a magic ring. Chapter 1 Veronica Lodge awoke feeling bad. The day before she and her best friend Betty Cooper had gotten into a huge fight. Previously the two of them had agreed that Betty would go to the fair with Archie, the boy they both had a crush on. But Veronica had wanted to go to the fair with Archie and she had gone behind Betty's back and picked Archie up and taken him to the fair. Betty had been left waiting at her house and when Archie didn't show up she had gone to his house where his mother had informed her that Archie had left with Veronica. Betty had gone to the fair filled with rage and she had found Archie just as he had one a ring playing ring toss and given it to Veronica. The two girls' argument had created a huge scene which just about everybody there saw or at least heard. They were about to actually get into a physical fight when Archie had restrained Veronica while Jughead had dragged the angry Betty away. "I wish we had never become friends!" Veronica had yelled as they were being pulled apart. However after having the rest of the day to think about things Veronica realized that she had been wrong to go behind Betty's back like she had. She decided it would be best to apologize. She picked up her cell phone and sent Betty a text message. Oddly she noticed that Betty wasn't in her contacts so she had to add her back. She didn't remember removing Betty from her phone but perhaps she had. Moments later she received a reply. "Who is this?" it read. Veronica was a little confused, even if Betty had been so angry as to remove her from her contact list she would probably recognize Veronica's number or at least the apology. "It's Veronica, who is this?" Veronica texted back. "This is Steve, I don't know any Veronica," came the reply. Veronica was confused by what was going on so she decided to call Betty's house. Betty's mother ended up answering the phone. "Hi, could I speak with Betty?" Veronica asked. "Who is this?" Betty's mother asked sounding a bit confused. "It's Veronica, Mrs. Cooper, Veronica Lodge." Veronica replied. "Your daughter's best friend." "I have no idea what you are talking about," Betty's mother said. "Betty's best friend is Cheryl Blossom and Betty slept over at her house last night." Before Veronica could ask anything else Betty's mother hung up on her. Veronica just stared at her phone in a state of shock. She had just been told that Betty's best friend was her arch nemesis Cheryl Blossom. Betty herself didn't hate Cheryl but they weren't exactly friends either. Veronica wondered if this was some sort of elaborate way to get back at her. If it was then Veronica figured she could use Archie to act as a sort of mediator. She texted Archie and asked him to come over in an hour. She spent that hour getting ready and was just finishing her makeup when their butler Smithers announced that Archie had arrived. "So what is it you wanted me to come here for?" Archie asked. "I need your help in reconciling with Betty," Veronica replied. "Betty? As in Betty Cooper?" Archie inquired with utter confusion. "Yes, she's only been my best friend since we were six," Veronica answered. Archie looked at her as if she was out of her mind. He seemed as if he wanted to say something but he was so shocked that he couldn't. Finally he snapped out of it. "Did you hit your head or something?" Archie asked. "No," Veronica replied. "Why would you ask that?" "You and Betty Cooper hate each other," Archie answered. "You've hated each other for years now, you've never been friends." "Never been friends?" Veronica repeated back slowly. "No, I don't know why you would be. Betty and her friend Cheryl are two of the meanest girls in school, which sucks because they're also two of the hottest as well." Archie said. Veronica decided to ignore the last part of that remark. Instead she pulled out her phone. She knew that she had several pictures of her and Betty together on her phone. But as she looked through her pictures she couldn't find a single one of them. "Why can't I find any of my pictures with her?" Veronica wondered out loud. "Are you sure you're okay?" Archie asked. "Stop asking me that," Veronica snapped. "Just... just leave me alone." "Thanks for inviting me over for nothing," Archie grumbled as he left. Veronica went through her pictures again and again but couldn't find a single picture of herself and Betty. It was as though they had never been friends. That was when she realized it, yesterday she had wished that she and Betty had never been friends and her wish had been granted. She had no idea how it had happened though, and she had no idea how to change things back. Veronica spent the day trying to figure out just what had changed. As she went over things she saw that Archie was her boyfriend exclusively, at the cost of not having Betty as her friend. Veronica figured that if she had to that was something she could live with, although perhaps she could become friends with Betty again. The following day was Monday which meant going back to school. Veronica was looking everywhere for her cheerleaders outfit since they had cheer practice today but couldn't find it and wondered if perhaps she had left it in her locker. When she got to school she met up with Archie and they walked in together. "You're a little later than usual," Archie commented. "I couldn't find my cheerleader uniform," Veronica explained. Archie looked at her for a moment and then chuckled. "Okay, that was kind of funny." He said. "What are you talking about?" Veronica asked. "You being on the cheerleading squad," Archie replied. "As if Cheryl and Betty would have let you join." "Are you saying that I'm not pretty enough to be a cheerleader?" Veronica asked incredulously. "No, no, no," Archie quickly backtracked. "It has nothing to do with that, you're just not as athletic and they hate you." "What do you mean not as athletic?" Veronica asked. "Do a cartwheel, right here," Archie replied. Veronica looked at him, "You know I can't do a cartwheel." She said. "And that's exactly my point," Archie said. "Our cheerleading squad wouldn't win state with a member that can't even do a cartwheel." "We won state?" Veronica asked. "Two years in a row now," Archie answered. "Going for three, come on you know this." "Yeah, yeah," Veronica lied. "I just didn't want to believe it." As they headed into the school Veronica saw three of her friends, Midge Klump, Ginger Lopez and Maria Rodriguez. "Hey guys!" Veronica called out. All three of them looked over at Veronica and shot her looks of disgust. "What's with them?" Veronica asked Archie. "Since when are you friends with any cheerleaders?" Archie retorted. "You're acting really strange." "I know," Veronica muttered. She couldn't believe that not only was Betty not her friend anymore, but neither were Midge, Ginger or Maria. Although as she thought about it her friendship with all of those girls hinged on her being friends with Betty. She looked back at the three girls who had gone back to ignoring Veronica and whatever their own private conversation was about. Veronica noticed that all three girls seemed a bit taller than she remembered. Veronica looked at their feet but none of them were wearing heels. All of them were wearing tiny shorts that didn't even cover the thighs of their long smooth legs. The bell rang to let everyone know they had to get to class. As the three girls turned to head into the school Veronica was again surprised to see what else they were wearing. All three of them were wearing cropped tank tops with low cuts which displayed ample cleavage. Such an outfit was supposed to be against the school's dress code, but what surprised Veronica more was the size of the three girls' breasts. They were absolutely enormous easily DD-cup and possibly bigger. Ginger's boobs were so large that she had visible under boob sticking out from her top. "I can't believe they're allowed to wear that," Veronica commented. "They're on the cheer squad, they've got a different dress code than the rest of you girls," Archie said. "That doesn't seem fair," Veronica complained. "Yeah well you can try complaining to the student president but I doubt she'll care," Archie said. Veronica didn't want to ask who the class president was but she had a good idea who it was. When they went in the school Veronica looked to wear the pictures of the student council were. She wasn't exactly surprised to see that Cheryl was the president although she had thought it would be Betty. Betty was the vice-president. Ginger Lopez was the treasurer, Midge was the secretary and Maria was the female representative for the seniors. As she looked it over she saw that Reggie Mantle was the male representative for the seniors. Veronica started to head for her locker when Archie grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?" he asked. Veronica realized that she probably wouldn't have a locker near Betty's if they didn't like each other and she could see Ginger, Midge and Maria heading down the hallway. It stood to reason that all the cheerleaders would have lockers near each other. "I'm not sure," Veronica replied. "Come on," Archie said. "You're really out of it today." Veronica followed Archie to their lockers. Veronica spun the dial on her lock but the combination didn't work. She stood there staring at it blankly. "Did you forget your combo?" Archie asked. "Yeah I, I can't remember it," Veronica replied. Archie reached over and spun the dial for her. "Thirty-two, six, forty-one," he recited. Veronica tried to put the combination to memory as she opened her locker. She was relieved to see that she had her class schedule taped to the inside of the door and she took a moment to read it over. English first period, chemistry second period, history third period and her last period was gym. For some reason gym period had a frowning face drawn on it and Veronica could guess why. As she looked at the other days she saw several other frowning faces. Veronica hoped she could figure out how to turn things back to normal before she had to deal with any of those days. The first two periods seemed just like normal. With the exception that the girls that were cheerleaders wouldn't speak with her. Lunch time came and Veronica headed towards the cafeteria. "Why are you going to the cafeteria?" Archie asked. "Where else am I going to have lunch?" Veronica retorted. "In the bleachers like we usually do," Archie replied. "Okay, but I didn't bring a lunch I need to buy something," Veronica said. Just then Jughead came by. "I'm going to the caf, do you guys need anything?" Jughead asked. "I'll come with you," Veronica replied. Jughead gave her a look as though she were crazy. "You don't have to do that Ronnie," Jughead said. "In fact you shouldn't. Just tell me what you want and I'll get it for you." Veronica frowned and then reached into her purse and handed Jughead some cash. "Just try and get something I'll like," Veronica said. Lunch ended up being somewhat miserable but Veronica also found it a little informative. She was able to see who the other so called outcasts were. Along with herself, Jughead and Archie, Ethel Muggs, Cricket O'Dell, Raj Patel, Brigitte Reilly and the openly gay student Kevin Keller were all resigned to having lunch in the bleachers. There were other students who Veronica remembered seeing but couldn't remember their names. One student who seemed conspicuous by his absence in Veronica's opinion was Dilton Doiley. She thought she had seen him in the hallway earlier in the day. When she asked Archie he said that Dilton was probably doing Moose's homework. After lunch Veronica went to third period history, which again was another normal class. But then she had gym class one that she had been dreading all day. When she got to the change room she was one of the first ones there. She was almost finished changing when the cheerleaders arrived. Betty and Cheryl led their clique into the change room and Veronica was somewhat shocked by the sight of them. Both girls were giants, standing easily 6'5". But Veronica was even more surprised by what they were wearing. Betty was wearing white knee high leather boots, and black booty shorts that were practically plastered on her body and barely covered her round butt and showed quite a bit of camel toe. There was a white belt encrusted with diamonds that seemed completely unnecessary except as a fashion accessory. Her top was little more than a white tank top that barely fit over her huge tits and Veronica could clearly tell that Betty wasn't wearing a bra. She had a large diamond B pendant that partially disappeared into her huge cleavage and a pair of diamond earrings that should have been way too expensive for Betty to afford. Veronica suspected that they weren't real diamonds just cubic zirconium. Cheryl was dressed differently, wearing a pair of black flats along with fish net stockings that went all the way up towards the top of her thighs. She wore a plaid skirt that was so short that the black thong she was wearing under it was almost completely visible. She had on a black leather mini jacket under which she wore nothing but a plaid bra that was clearly multiple cup sizes too small. Cheryl had a large letter C pendant which looked to be made of rubies and ruby earrings. Behind them were pretty much the rest of the seniors on the cheerleading squad, Midge, Ginger and Maria along with Wendy Weatherbee, Tomoko Yoshida, Trula Twyst, Sandy Sanchez, Joani Jumpp, Danni Malloy and Sabrina Spellman. All of them were taller and bustier than Veronica remembered, as they all stood close to six feet tall and they all had at least DD-cup breasts. "I like the sugar and spice theme of you outfits," Brigitte complimented Betty and Cheryl. The compliment drew chuckles from the whole group of cheerleaders. "Oh look, fatty here thinks that by complimenting us that we're going to take it easy on her in gym class," Betty said. That drew laughs from the other girls in her group. Betty's face then changed to a sneer and she leaned in menacingly towards Brigitte. "In fact you can look forward to having balls raining down on you today, fatty" Betty said emphasising the last part by poking Brigitte in her stomach. Veronica was shocked, this was not at all the Betty that she knew. Not only was she physically different, but her personality was the complete opposite. Despite part of her mind telling her not to Veronica felt she had to say something to Betty. She walked up behind Betty as she was changing and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, you can't treat Brigitte like that," Veronica said. Betty turned around slowly on the bench and then stood up. She was only half changed so she was completely topless giving Veronica a full view of her volleyball sized tits. Veronica instinctively looked for the tell-tale sign of an implant scar but didn't see one. "Since when did you get the balls to stand up to me?" Betty asked. Veronica just stared back at Betty the best she could, trying not to be distracted by Betty's huge boobs which were only inches away from her face. "You just earned yourself a reprieve fatty," Betty said glancing at Brigitte. "We've got a new target today." Betty turned around and went back to changing. Brigitte grabbed Veronica and led her out into the gym, Veronica saw that the volleyball nets were set up and she suddenly realized what was going to happen. "What were you doing in there?" Brigitte asked. "Have you lost your mind?" "No, she just, she shouldn't be able to talk to you like that," Veronica replied. "That was nothing," Brigitte said. "We're all used to that by now I mean it's gone on since elementary school." Veronica wanted to say that she wasn't used to that at all. That was the first time she'd seen Betty ever act like that, but she couldn't the last thing she wanted at this point was to make people who were her friends think she was crazy. However it only strengthened her resolve to figure out just what had happened and how her wish had come true in such a horrible manner. But for now she just had to try and survive gym class. Once everyone was out of the change room Coach Pacer had them divide themselves into teams. Veronica wasn't entirely surprised that Coach Pacer showed favouritism towards the cheerleaders as they divided themselves into two teams of six. Betty was on one team with Midge, Maria, Tomoko, Sandy and Sabrina. Cheryl was on the other with Ginger, Wendy, Trula, Danni and Joani. Veronica ended up on a team with Brigitte, Ethel, Cricket, Nancy Woods and Kim Wong. Their first match was against Cheryl's team. Ethel was about 6'1" and Nancy was a pretty good athlete so Veronica thought perhaps they could win at least a few points. The match started with Nancy serving and she got in a good serve and Ethel was able to block the attack and Veronica thought they might have a chance. "That was your one point," Cheryl taunted from the other side of the net. It turned out that Cheryl was right. On the next point Cheryl spiked the ball into Cricket's face. After that it was complete domination as Cheryl's team won point after point. Veronica's team were bruised and battered as balls were intentionally spiked at them. Veronica was a little surprised at just how strong and athletic all the girls on Cheryl's team were. The best two out of three match mercifully end 25-1 25- 1. But thing weren't about to get better as Veronica's team found themselves facing Betty's team next. Betty started serving for her team. "I'm coming for you," Betty said pointing at Veronica. Veronica couldn't help but feel a little worried and those worries were confirmed when Betty's serve came sailing straight for her face. She barely got her hands up to block it in time as the force of it knocked her to the ground and the ball went bouncing out of bounds. The rest of her team gathered around to help her to her feet. "Look just get out of the way next time," Brigitte said. "It's not like we're going to win let's just lose as quickly as possible to get this over with." Everybody else agreed except Veronica. "Why should we give them the satisfaction of just rolling over and letting them win?" Veronica asked. "Because all of them are guaranteed to get full volleyball scholarships to any university that they want," Ethel replied. "Heck Betty and Cheryl are planning on representing our country in beach volleyball at the next Olympics." Veronica had to admit that they would be a formidable team to face for sure. "Alright, let's just give this up," Veronica agreed. On the next serve Betty sent it sailing at Veronica's head yet again. This time Veronica ducked aside and the ball landed just inside the line. As Veronica got back up she saw Betty smirking across the net as the ball was rolled back to her. The rest of the set was like that, in the second set Veronica's team had serve and Veronica was serving. Veronica briefly considered trying to get some payback on Betty but she could barely get an overhand serve over the net. She ended up floating a serve over and it was sent back with a violent spike from Sabrina that hit Kim Wong in the face sending her to the ground. After that Betty's team got serve with Midge serving. Veronica and her teammates just kept getting out of the way of the serves and giving Betty's team free points. After the winning 25-0, 25-0 Betty and her teammates celebrated like they'd just won the state championship. Just then the bell sounded signalling the end of gym class. Gym had never been Veronica's favourite class, but she had never been more thankful for it to be over. "Alright girls, it's Monday so let's hit the weight room," Betty said to the other cheerleaders. Veronica watched in amazement as the twelve girls headed to the weight room. She stood there for a moment just staring before Ethel got her attention. "What are you doing?" Ethel asked. "I can believe they're going to the weight room," Veronica said. "That's like, for the football players." "Well how do you think they stay in shape and are such good athletes?" Ethel asked. "Heck, I bet Betty and Cheryl could easily play football with the boys and do well." Veronica didn't doubt that. She followed Ethel to the change room and got out of her gym clothes and back into her regular outfit. It was a still football season so she figured Archie probably had practice so she went out to the field to watch from the bleachers. As she sat up in the bleachers she saw the boys come out onto the field. She was surprised at how big they were, although shouldn't have been so surprising given what had happened with a lot of the girls in this reality. She could make out quite a few of the players; she saw that Jason Blossom, Cheryl's twin brother, was the quarterback. Moose was in his usual positions as both an offensive and defensive lineman. Reggie was a linebacker. Adam Chisholm was a receiver and Frankie Valdez who was Maria's boyfriend was the running back. Veronica was a little surprised to see Nick St. Clair was still at Riverdale High and was on the football team as a defensive back. But Veronica didn't see Archie on the field. She dug through her back pack to find her cell phone to text Archie. Just as she found it she looked up and saw Archie standing in the bleachers. "What are you doing here?" Archie asked. "I could ask you the same thing," Veronica retorted. "Why aren't you at football practice?" "Why would I be? I'm not on the football team," Archie said. "You're not?" Veronica asked surprised. "No, I wouldn't be allowed to date you if I was," Archie said. "It's a pretty tight clique. But really how do you not know this? You've been acting really weird since yesterday. Thinking you were friends with Betty and the other cheerleaders? What's going on?" "You'd probably just think I'm crazy if I told you," Veronica said. "I think you're crazy now," Archie said. "If you tell me this might all make sense." "Fine," Veronica sighed. "As far as I remember up until Saturday you, Betty and I were all friends. Admittedly a bit of a love triangle we both competed for you, and I kind of took you to the fair even though Betty and I agreed earlier that you would go to the fair with her. Anyway we got into a huge argument and remember saying 'I wish we were never friends'. Well the next morning I found out the hard way that it was true. But it has been so much more different than just that." "So it's not just Betty who isn't your friend anymore," Archie said. "No, I mean some of it I can understand because I was friends with them because of Betty." Veronica said. "So if it stands to reason that since Betty and I apparently hate each other I wouldn't be friends with them. But it's more than that. Betty and everybody who I'm not friends with have changed both physically and their personalities. The Betty I remember isn't a bully and she isn't an Amazon, none of them are." She looked at Archie who was taking this all in. "What's with that look? Do you think I'm crazy?" Veronica asked. "No, I don't," Archie replied. "I think you believe what you remember, and quite frankly I'm inclined to believe you." "Are you just saying that?" Veronica asked. "No, you seem very sure of yourself and that's why I believe you," Archie answered. "What if all you need to do is wish that Betty is your friend again?" Veronica was a little surprised that she hadn't thought about that. But it was so simple that it just might work. "I wish that Betty and I were friends again," Veronica said out loud. "So I guess we wait and see what happens tomorrow," Archie said. Veronica said good-bye and the two of them left school heading their separate ways. Veronica decided to walk rather than have Smithers pick her up just to kill time. She was about two blocks away from the school when she was startled. At first she thought it was Betty but then she saw that it wasn't. It was Sabrina Spellman another one of the cheerleaders. Sabrina wasn't as tall as Betty or Cheryl, but she was still over half a foot taller than Veronica and her shadow loomed over Veronica as she stood in Veronica's way. "Uh can I help you?" Veronica asked a little nervous. Sabrina gave an amused smirk. "You can't reverse your wish," Sabrina said. Veronica's eyes went wide with surprise. "How do you know about that?" Veronica demanded. "I'm a witch," Sabrina replied. "So when somebody magically alters reality it affects me a little differently. I was there for your wish, so I remember it, but I also know everything in this reality." "But how do you know I can't reverse it?" Veronica inquired. "It's the major rule of wishes. Once granted they can't be undone, even by another wish," Sabrina replied. "Okay, but why did reality end up like this?" Veronica said. "This has nothing to do with my wish." "Your wish wasn't very specific," Sabrina replied. "And I'm guessing it was probably from a wishing ring, typically a wish made in anger without specific guidelines tends to backfire quite spectacularly." "Can you help me?" Veronica asked. Sabrina scoffed. "Help you? I don't even like you. And quite frankly this reality is so much better for me, why would I want to change it?" Sabrina retorted. "No, I just felt like rubbing in the hopelessness of your situation. You're stuck with this." As Veronica watched Sabrina walkaway she felt completely hopeless. She was trapped in a reality where nothing was as she remembered; where her best friend hated her and a lot of her friends were now enemies. Normally Veronica would have consoled herself by shopping, but the thought of that no longer held any appeal for her. She headed home wondering if perhaps there was some way to just make herself forget how things used to be. ****************************************************************************** ************************* Sabrina met back up with Betty and Cheryl. She had been feeling since Sunday that something was different, and after seeing Veronica try and stick up to Betty for Bridgette she was able to put two and two together, but she wasn't perfectly sure until she had confronted Veronica. She had long since told Betty and Cheryl that she was a witch. In fact the size and hotness of the all the cheerleaders and the jocks was largely her doing. She made several potions for them to make them look the way they did. Sabrina's recollection of the previous reality was vague, she only really remembered the time shortly before the wish and briefly after. She had told Betty and Cheryl about her suspicions and they told her to confirm it. "So what did you find out?" Betty asked. "I was right, Veronica did make a wish that changed reality two days ago," Sabrina replied. "There is one problem though." "Just what is that?" Cheryl asked. "Well I'm guessing that Veronica somehow obtained a wishing ring," Sabrina replied. "Most are only good for one wish, but sometimes they're good for three, I didn't want to question her about it in case she tried to use the ring again." "Do you know what the ring would look like?" Betty asked. Sabrina nodded. "Then you and I are going to go and find it," Betty said. "Cheryl you're going to distract Veronica." "I've got a great idea for that in mind," Cheryl said with a smirk. ****************************************************************************** ************************* Veronica was almost home when she received a text message from Archie asking her to meet him at a park near his house. Veronica turned around and started walking in the other direction texting back to Archie asking what it was about. Betty and Sabrina watched from Betty's car as Veronica went off the other way. "Looks like Cheryl's distraction worked," Sabrina commented. "Let's get in there quickly," Betty said. They got out of the car and went up to the gate blocking the entrance to the Lodge Mansion. They were both able to easily climb the wall and sneak up to the mansion. Neither of Veronica's parents were home so it was just the staff they had to avoid. They were able to sneak in through an open window and they made their way upstairs to Veronica's room. "I'll cast a spell to try and find the ring," Sabrina said. Betty was already rummaging through the jewellery on Veronica's dresser and she held up a ring with two red stones and one black one. "Is this it?" Betty asked. Sabrina looked up mid-spell. "Yes, that's it," Sabrina said. "Oh thank goodness, that's a three wish spell, although one of the wishes has been used." "So there are two wishes left?" Betty inquired. Sabrina nodded and Betty slid the ring onto her finger. "You should be careful with that," Sabrina cautioned. "Don't worry Sabrina," Betty said. "I know what I'm doing." Betty took a look at the ring and remembered the rules of the wishes that Sabrina had told her earlier. She knew that she had to be careful with her wording or it might backfire like Veronica's wish had. Soon she worked out what to say. "I wish..." Betty began. To Be Continued
