THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL by Vinnie (vinmusic63@aol.com) There was a lot of cigarette smoke in the rehearsal studio, as there always is. In the corner was Jack Ganty, an excellent jazz bass player, had a great feel for the art. Tom Guthree played a very tasty guitar. Louis tinkled the ivory very nicely as he sat at his Piano. Abbey Ryes sat at her drums and waited for everyone to settle down. When it came to playing jazz she was one of the best. Everyone settled down and Abbey smiled. Ready? they all looked to Abbey, and waited for her count. 1- 2-3-4. The band started to play, and the music jumped out at you. Jack, Tom, Louis, and Abbey were in tune and in sync as they played on all night at the studio. It was always wonderful to here them play. When the band is having fun, everyone enjoys it. After the rehearsal they were getting ready to leave, Abbey heard a rock band playing down the hall. Now Abbey really didn't like anything other than jazz, but what she heard was really good! The drummer hit hard and strong and she was hooked. She went into the room when the song ended and walked over to the drummer. Hi, im Abbey. Yeah I know Im Grant and these guys are my boys. The band all looked at Abbey and gave here the band hello. Hello Abbey! Hello boys. You are an excellent drummer Abbey, for a jazz player. Whats that suppose to mean? You think i cant play rock? Grant looked Abbey up and down. Five feet eleven inches, Abbey was tall, but only weighed ninety nine pounds. She was thin and not very strong. Actually, no i don't think you could play rock. Do you wanna try? Give me those sticks! Abbey sat at the drums and took the sticks in her hands. Now to let you in on a little information. Drum stick for rock are a lot heavier than jazz sticks. She already knew this was gonna suck. Abbey looked at the band and counted off. 1-2-3-4. The band started playing and although she did not go out of time, you didn't hear her too well cause she wasn't hitting hard enough. After a while the band just stopped. Sorry Abbey, its not your fault . You just cant hit hard enough. Abbey was always good at music. There was nothing she couldn't do, except play rock. Abbey got all pissed off! This sucks Abbey yelled. Not you guys , you didn't suck, just me. Abbey you didn't suck You just aren't strong enough to play these kinda drums. Abbey, disgusted with her self, says good night and goes home. The next day Abbey and Jack were going to the diner to get a bite. Abbey got along great with Jack, he was the bass player, and drummers and bass players always click. I don't know Jack, I sucked when I played with those guys. I wasn't even strong enough to hold the sticks! Abbey you are an excellent drummer, one of the best I've ever played with! Yeah thanks but i cant play rock! So, you can play jazz. i already play jazz well, but the way that guy played last night. He was good I wanna play rock that good! Well find a way to get stronger then. What did you say Jack? Get stronger Abbey, you are only ninety nine pounds. How do i do that Jack! Ironically they stopped in front of MIKES GYM! There you go Abbey, go in there and bulk up. Are you serious, im a girl, girls don't..... Don't even finish that sentence Abbey, you know its not true. yeah i know, do you think i should? Do you really want to play rock that bad? Yes! Then lets go, if you are serious I will buy your membership. Abbey and Jack walk in to the gym a big guy with even bigger muscles greets them. Welcome to Mikes gym, how can I help you. Abbey looks at the big man. I wanna play drums for a rock and roll band. The man looks at her real funny. This is a gym miss, not a music school. No you don't understand. Im already a jazz drummer but im not strong enough to play rock! Ohh i see. Then you came to the right place. The ball was in motion, they weighed her, took measurements , checked body fat. Strike that, she had no body fat, she was too skinny. The trainer's name was Peter. O.k Miss Ryes these are called weights, dumbbells to be specific. I know what weights are, I just was never so close to them before. Can i call you Abbey? Sure everyone else does. O.k, these are five pound weights. We will start with light weights to get your muscles use too it. Abbey picked up the weights. O.k lift them slowly up to your chest and back down again. Thats it , again. again! Keep going till you hit fifteen! Peter worked with Abbey for several hours. That didn't feel so bad, as a matter of fact I feel great! Peter laughed, tell me the same thing in two days. It was true, when you start lifting weights, it usually doesn't hit you until two days later. Louis came by Abbeys place to pick her up for rehearsal. Forget it Louis! I cant even move, all the muscles in my body hurt! Louis disappointed, left to tell the band the bad news. Sorry Louis, tell the guys im sorry. Yeah what ever, get better Abbey. The next day Abbey was back at the gym. Gotta play rock drums, gotta play. Peter looked at Abbey still in pain from three days ago. Ready to go again! Yeah, i think so. O.k these are called twenty one curls. By the time your done with your set, you will have lifted the weights twenty one times. What!, Twenty one times?! Gotta play rock drums, gotta play. Abbey kept saying that over in her head for incentive.Abbey started lifting, this time instead of five pound he jumped her to ten pounds. She was dying but kept it up. Another several hours of heavy lifting and she was exhausted. She kept it up for the next week, lifting heavier and heavier weights. One morning she went in to her bath room and got on the scale. Wow one hundred and sixteen pounds? I've gained seventeen pounds! In two weeks? She looked in the mirror and realized she was getting bigger, allot bigger! Abbey ran her hand down her arm and felt how tight it was. Should I make a muscle? Well here goes. She started to curl her wrist and her bicep started to slowly grow. Wow, I have to measure this. Before Abbey started she had ten inch arms. Thirteen inches. Cool im getting bigger! That must mean im getting stronger. Im gonna play rock drums, im gonna play rock! Abbey couldn't wait to go back to the gym. When Abbey arrived at the gym Peter looked at her physique and saw it was definitely changing. Abbey we are gonna start the real work out now. Abbey didn't like the sound of that but was ready never the less. Abbey lifted and lifted, rep after rep, her muscles started to bulge! More and more her work outs became more intense. Abbey was growing, gaining more muscle as time went on.Most importantly, she was getting stronger, much stronger! At first she curled 25 pounds, 30 pounds, 35 pounds, 40 pounds! 45 pounds! Benching, 40 pounds, 50 pounds 60 pounds 70 pounds! 85 pounds! 135 pounds, which eventually became nothing to what she was able to lift in the future! Every time Abbey would curl the weight s with her arms she would feel the blood rush into her muscles and swell! Forcing them to grow and get stronger! Special diets running on the track vitamin supplements. She was responding to the extreme lifting by getting bigger and stronger! She was definitely strong enough to to play rock now! But she kept going anyway. One day she put on the same tee shirt she had on the day she played drums with the rock band. She tried very hard to get the shirt on. I t was very small too her now, but she got it on anyway. Abbey stepped on the scale and it weighed 175 pounds! in six months Abbey gained 76 pounds of unstoppable muscle! She picked up her arms and slowly flexed. Her biceps grew and grew getting bigger! The sleeve strained and began to tare! Growing bigger, it seemed like it wouldn't stop! Abbey flexed her whole body and her shirt was ripped to shreads! She stood there in the mirror at five feet eleven inches 19 inch biceps, 175 pounds of raw buff muscle! Abbey sat and waited for everyone to settle down. They all looked to Abbey to count off the song. She looked and smiled. Lets play some rock and roll! 1-2-3-4 THE END?
