Parking her custom motorcycle there, she continued to follow the signal of Wonder Woman's communicator as it led her through the trees. As the signal grew stronger, Dinah slowed her steps, looking around for any sign of her teammate as well as anything else suspicious. "It's too quiet," Canary thought to herself as she continued walking. She thought she smelled something a bit in the distance, almost like barbecued meat ... and then, as the signal grew really strong, she spied something shiny, lying in the leaves. As she got a few feet away, she recognized it! Wonder Woman's tiara! Dinah gasped as she realized Wonder Woman must be in serious trouble, although she had no idea how serious! She took a couple more steps towards the tiara to pick it up ... and as she took the last one, she heard a loud SNAP! "What the ... ?" Black Canary shouted as something wrapped around both her ankles quickly, securing them together, and then pulling up sharply, yanking her off her feet and upside down, about ten feet in the air! "Hey!" Dinah shouted as she swung by the rope that had snagged her. "Hello ... ?" She guessed she had accidentally stepped into some kind of trap laid by a hunter to catch his prey, and had no idea of course that this guess was 100% accurate! The Hunter had taken a seat in a tree stand not far from where Wonder Woman's body had just finished roasting over an open fire. With one hand he held a pair of high-powered binoculars, with the other a Wonder Woman drummie. He had been watching Black Canary from the moment she had arrived in the forest, gnawing on the former Amazon's meaty calf meat as he smiled at the blonde bombshell that was walking right into his trap. "I've seen rabbits that were harder to catch than these stupid bimbos," he thought as he finished the last of the drumstick and started climbing out of the tree. Black Canary was angry as she swung around, suspended from a large tree branch by a rope. A clearer thinking Canary would have radioed for help, but at that moment Dinah was enraged at herself for not being more careful, and also at whoever had set the trap there. Desperately, she tried to swing herself up to where she could reach her feet and grab the rope to try and untie it ... but she simply couldn't get the leverage. "Well then, there's only one thing to do ... !" she thought as she took a deep breath and launched her Canary Cry, her trademark sonic scream, right at the rope, expecting it to fray and break. To her shock and horror, nothing of the sort happened! The rope remained perfectly solid and taut ... although the same could not be said for the branch above her which took the full force of her scream, snapping in half, and sending the Siren of Justice tumbling down, rope and all, towards the leaf-covered earth. Except when Canary hit the leaves, she kept going! A moment later she slammed into something hard and metal ... and a moment later she heard a loud thud as something slammed down above her. And then she heard a man's laughter ... The force of the fall, twenty feet or so, hadn't done any serious damage to the fishnetted heroine, except stun her for a minute or two. As Canary pulled herself dazedly to her knees, she suddenly realized whatever she was in was rising, right up out of the ground. A minute later the forest came back into view ... as well as her predicament. Black Canary was kneeling inside a cube-shaped metal cage, about 6 feet on each side. The cage was suspended about a foot of the ground by some kind of cable ... as Dinah looked up, through the oncoming darkness, she realized it was secured to the same tree as the rope had been. "What's going on here?" Canary shouted as the man approached the side of the cage. "Who are you? Where's Wonder Woman?" "Ah, my pretty bird ... I am the Hunter. As for your Amazonian friend ... well let me just say she is quite a delicious little piggy." He held up Wonder Woman's leg as Dinah recoiled in horror. "No ... nooo ... oh my god ... are you saying ... no ... !" Canary gasped as she realized the gravity of what he just said. "Oh yes ... I am the Hunter ... I caught her, I roasted her, and I am eating her." He smiled at the mortified Canary. "Would you like to try some? Her meat is simply heavenly to taste!" "You are beyond SICK!" Black Canary screamed. "I can't believe it ... you're telling me ... I mean look at you ... how?" "Well, my dear Canary, I certainly am nowhere near as strong, or fast, as Wonder Woman. I don't have any of her precious gadgets ... well at least I didn't ... " he laughed as he showed Dinah the magic lasso. "Recognize this?" Canary looked at the lasso ... and then it hit her, even in the low light she recognized it as the same rope that had snared her a few minutes previously. Wonder Woman's 'unbreakable' lasso ... which is why her scream had no effect on it! The Hunter continued. "But apparently I am head and shoulders above her in the brains department. The dumb little piggy trapped herself for me! Once her bracelets were bound together, she was finished ... " Canary snarled at him. "Well even if what you say is true ... which I don't believe it ... you are NOT getting away with it!" And she took a deep breath as the Hunter just stood there and smiled, waiting. "AAARRRHHHH!" Canary let loose her scream at the metal bars of the cage ... and then was thrown back hard against the back of the cage as the sonic wave reflected off something and came right back at her! The blonde bombshell lay against the back of the cage, stunned, as the Hunter walked around behind her and leaned in close. "Poor little bird ... you have no clue what just happened, do you ... I had this cage specially made for me by the Injustice League ... it has a sonic reflector field all the way around it. Quite amazing really ... I am just a simple hunter, so don't ask me to explain how it works ... but apparently it does, quite well ... I wouldn't try that again if I were you." He slipped his hand behind her right ear and removed her communicator, and then took a couple of steps back. "No contacting your friends ... but don't worry, they'll be joining you soon enough ... " The dazed Canary weakly got to her knees, still stunned by her own sonic blast, as the Hunter stepped forward again, reaching through the invisible sonic field and the bars to latch a collar around the songbird's neck. A sturdy chain leash was then attached to the back of the collar and hooked to the top of the cage. "Just in case you get any ideas, my pet," the Hunter remarked. Supergirl arrived back at Justice League headquarters that evening to find both Wonder Woman and Black Canary gone. She strode into the medical wing to find Huntress sitting there looking a bit downcast. "Helena, where are Diana and Dinah?" Kara asked. "Diana never made it back here earlier ... Dinah went to go check on her and she hasn't reported in ... " Supergirl tried to raise Black Canary on her communicator. No answer. She went to the terminal and punched a few buttons. "Both their communicators are working and in close proximity to each other ... but neither one is answering ... I better go and see what has happened!" "Be careful ... " Huntress stated as Supergirl prepared to fly off. "We don't know what we might be dealing with ... and there's not much backup available right now ... " "I will ... you just keep taking care of my cousin and the rest of them. I'll signal back the moment I know what is going on!" And Supergirl took off towards the location. The Hunter grinned at his catch as he slid a plate of food into the cage across from Black Canary. "Can't have my prize bird starving to death, now can I? Thanksgiving is right around the corner ... " "What are you talking about?" Canary spat at him as he moved away. She took a whiff of the food, it smelled delicious ... "You still haven't figured it out have you, stupid turkey? I am the Hunter, I have bagged my Thanksgiving dinner and you are it ... I bet you will taste just divine, lying on my table with a spread of mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce!" "You just wait ... I'll get out of here! Supergirl is probably on her way now and we will stop you!" Canary retorted. "Oh is she ... I certainly hope so ... I really wouldn't want the trap I set for her to go to waste ... " he chuckled loudly. "What trap?" Canary asked. "You have another one of these rope-and-cage deals? Supergirl won't fall for that!" She started to nibble hungrily on the plate of food as Hunter smiled. "Why not, my pretty birdie? Because she's not a dumb bimbo like you, or Wonder Piggy? We'll see ... you heroines are really quite pathetic when it comes to intellect. I bet you couldn't think your way out of a wet paper bag!" He laughed again as he walked off and left Black Canary there in her cage, in the dark ... To Be Continued
