The story of Ahmed ##' 2 or The Women of Astrakhan and the fighting gloves by Sundar ,Sundaram Ramchandran , zenkalidas To recap, Ahmed is having a wonderful time piloting the newly outfitted truck along with his amazons. Continuing the story further, ... ... Finally they arrive at the fabled city of Astrakhan (the Venice of the east) known for its wine, women and wealth (not necessarily in that order). The women here are known to be strong and handsome . manifesting the legacy of both their scythian amazonian ancestors , their Greco Roman ancestors and their Asiatic neighbors further east One odd observation made by Ahmed was that all the women were dressed either in miniskirts (like fishwives) or in the garb of sailors and it was all very well since it suited the nature of work such as unloading cargo, piloting boats, diving for pearls etc. Somewhere to the north, some women were playing a brutal game of rugby (Luckily, the mud seemed to be hard) Finally, he observed a group of women fighting lustily like amazonian fishwives (which turned out to be true in this case) over something. Later that something turned out to be a smallish man (who again seemed to be of the same racial origins as Ahmed). Most of the women also seemed to have turbans or bandannas draped around their heads with large earrings which somehow strangely reinforced their feminity instead of detracting from it. One of the fishwives who was a spectator muttered "The prize does not seem worth the fight , he , he " which was the signal for an all out altercation between the women using or rather "woman handling" the poor man as a shield. Finally, the fight concluded and both the women drowned their differences over a bottle of vodka. The spectator who had made the comment was also invited to join in and they proceeded to gently tonsure the poor man and play with him. They went so far as to paint him as a leopard / leopard cub, spots and all at which point they started to feel sorry for him One lady had the suggestion of actually taking money from the men around and organizing a real striking / grappling match. Ahmed innocently piped in "But I heard that they use animal hide to make fighting gloves and since I am from a Sufi order, I do not believe in killing living things. Would a hair like substance be a good substitute ?" This was the signal for the women to start tonsuring the men (all of whom seemed to have the same racial origins as Ahmed) and painting their head in multiple colors after pouring feathers on them and coating them with paint. They especially chose the men who were known to have multiple lovers. Some of them with grease and tar coated bandages covered the hair (and even face and body) of the men with bird down (both from poultry shops and pillows from old furniture shops). The divers took the men deep underwater, kept them alive by breathing into their mouth, wrapped one leg around their hapless lovers / victims in the fashion of the Indian lion god (or was it actually a Goddess ???? !!!) Narsimha, covered their hair with oyster eggs and proceeded to pull their victim's hair out by the roots, the heat sometimes miraculously resulting in pearl formation. The idea that emerged spontaneously was to use the hair collected to make the boxing / grappling gloves. All the while, the women kept muttering "D'ont be egoistically deluded that it is because of we are fighting each another. You just happen to be a pathetic excuse" But in the end, the women could not help embracing their lovers and lovingly hugging them. What happened in the fight is another story.
