My Ex-wife and Mother-In-Law I met Karin during the spring of 1963, when we were both students at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I was sitting in the Student Union Cafeteria taking a short break from studying when I saw a fit-looking girl of average height and weight standing in the serving line. What caught my eyes mostly were her calves. They were bigger and more shapely than most women while she was just standing still, but when she went up on her tiptoes to see something on the food line, they REALLY bulged out. I said to myself that a girl that shapely must either have a boyfriend or be engaged, but she sat down by herself. I am actually quite shy, but I wanted badly to meet this girl, so I said to myself "nothing ventured, nothing gained," and when I finished my sandwich, I strolled by her table to see if she was wearing an engagement ring. Seeing that her ring finger was bare, I did something I had never done before and asked her if I could sit down and talk to her. She was very surprised but said "Yes," and we started talking. That evening we went on the first of many dates. Karin, as I said, was of average height and weight but had a sinewy, strong build that she inherited primarily from her mother, Bernice. Although her biceps measured only about 10 1/2 inches (maybe 11) they were nicely defined, solid, and quite strong. Her legs were larger, and in spite of the fact that I lifted weights and she didn't, her thighs were approximately as strong as mine, and her calves were stronger and much more defined. She also had an extremely hard stomach. Her mother, who was about twice Karin's age at the time, was quite a specimen. To this day, 42 years later, I have seen VERY few women with calves as big and ripped as those of Bernice. Particularly amazing were how far her inner calves bulged out to the sides. She would sit on her sofa with her calves pressed against the sofa and her feet flat on the floor several inches apart while sewing, and her calves would touch each other!! Her calves were absolutely incredible!!!! Bernice also had some BIG biceps. Relaxed, one couldn't see any muscle in her arms, but flexed they were very impressive though not up to the fantastic levels of her calves. Now Karin was a pretty darn good arm wrestler, so one day I suggested that she and her mother have an arm wrestling contest. They locked hands and I said "go." The contest turned out to be no contest. Bernice slammed her daughter's arm down in what seemed like nothing flat, then flexed a big bicep for us to see. No, I did not challenge Bernice to arm wrestle. That way my 20-year-old male ego could remain intact because I could always fool myself into believing "that I could have beaten her if I had tried." (Yeah, right!) Bernice had done hard work when she was younger, but neither she nor Karin had ever done any body building or weight lifting. They were simply two women that had been graced with outstanding muscles, especially Bernice. I doubt if Bernice is still living; but if she is, she is probably the most muscular ninety something in the world. THE AVINATOR
