The next generation! by David The next generation of superhero learns there is more to becoming a hero then she knows A SECRET BASEMENT LOCATED IN A KANSAS FARM HOUSE "Try again!" her mother demanded. "What do you think I've been doing?" the tall woman's oldest child yelled back in frustration. "You're the one who wanted to follow in your parents footsteps, this is a nessersary part of that journey." "Couldn't I just spin around and do it that way?" "Sadly I'm afraid that only works in the imagination of bad writers of old TV shows," her mother replied with a grin. "Bet you never had this problem.when you were younger" "I never had a secret to protect until I got old enough to have a family of my own to protect. Lucky for me your father was a most excellent teacher!" "Did the two of you have to practice a great deal?" "Of cause!" "Bet it was fun too, especially the part were you would take off your outer clothes or was it all your clothes you striped off in front of papa?" "You better watch what you say girl. Or do I need to remind you I'm still your mother!" "Yes mama," she replied noting her mother's red face. But she also noticed a slight smile as well as her mother's relived the moment in her memories. "Try again and be quick about it. Your father will be home soon and I don't want to have another argument about what we have been up to!" "What have the two of you been up to," a deep male voice asked from the top of the stairs leading down to the basement training room. Putting the two shopping bags down on the floor he floated down the stairway and stood in front of mother and daughter. "Your home early," his wife said. "Faster than a speeding bullet remember?" "Pretty sneaky pop, how did you find out?' "Now you know why I never got around covering the farm house in lead as your mother wished." Turning to his wife he asked, "I thought agreed not to encourage her to join in this crazy life style of ours?" She shook her head sadly and told him, "You and I might have agreed, but your little girl is a woman now and more than capable of making such choices for herself. And even if I agree with you about her not following in our foot steps. I also know now that there is no way I know of stopping her except by physical force and if you haven't noticed lately she has grown far to big for me to spank!" Seeing that her parents were about to break out in one of their marital spats and having no wish to be the cause of it she instead pleaded, "It's not mom's fault pop. I told her that if she didn't help me I would simply go off and try it on my own!" "And what do you mean by that young lady?" her father asked in all his imposing way. "If I can't join the family business so to speak, Then I will just go off on my own and take my chances!" "And if I forbid you to?" he asked. Standing tall and looking her father straight in the eye his daughter told him, "You and mama have trained me since I was a little girl to think for myself and be a proud independent woman. You have no right now to try and stop me from becoming what I think I should be. Or have all of those lectures you gave me about responciblity and using my abilities wisely were all lies!" she answered standing up to the father she both loved and respected. Seeing his oldest child defiantly standing before him, The Man of Steel never felt more proud of his "Little girl!" "She is her father's daughter after all," his wife interrupted. "And she has all her mother's courage and stubbiness also," he replied looking over at the woman he loved. "Jon and Lois will be home from school soon," his wife reminded him of his the twins named after his own father and beloved first wife. Knowing when he was beaten The Man of Steel reluctantly nodded his head yes and said, "Let me see what your having trouble with." Martha Clark, real name Martha Kent but known to her friends and family who loved her as Eiko stood in front of her parents in a very proper and conservative business suit and skirt. Her flaming red hair was carefully hidden under a raven haired wig tied up in the back in a very proper bun. Her eyes were now blue, with the help of contact lens. They were also covered by a pair of dark horn rimed glasses Looking her over her father remarked with a smile, "I like the glasses." Over her shoulder she carried a large plain hand bag. Reaching into the bag she came out with flat shinny squares of cloth. She took a deep breath and a split second later she turned into a blur of motion, faster than any human eye could follow. Less than a second later she stood proudly in front of her parents. Gone was the dark wig, contacts, glasses and business suit. They along with her shoes were safely in her large pocket book. The smile on her face soon left her as she saw her father red face and covering his eyes. She also noticed he was fighting to keep from laughing. Her mother had no such conflict she simply burst out in a deep booming laugh. "What's so funny?" The young woman demanded to know of her parents. Diana, known to the world at large as Wonder Woman and to the girl simply as mother. Stopped laughing long enough to tell her oldest child. "If your going to play the super hero, you shouldn't try to do it with one of your breasts and a large portion of your rear end sticking out for all the world to see!" "OH MY GOD!" screamed the young woman in embarassement as she quickly turned around to adjust her clothing in front of her father. "That's all right baby, your old man used to change your diapers on a regular basis." "But my old man hasn't seen so much of me ever since I began developing things that had to be covered up!" she wailed. "Better your old man who loves sees you now in the basement, then in front of strangers in the world at large!" To change the subject and end her embarrassment he told her, "I like the costume you designed." "Siko did the drawing's, Biko designed a Krypyonite powered laser to cut the cloth I got from the fortress and I did the sewing,"she proudly replied. The cloth was dark and light blue in color. The suit was cut high on the hips, but being more conservative then her mother not so high as her mother's own famous uniform. Her daughter included a short breech cloth for more modesty. The light blue cloth covering her well endowed chest was highlighted by her mothers own eagle emblem in gold. Super imposed over the eagle wings was a very familiar diamond shape. But instead of a simple S there was Both a W and a large S blended together. The symbolism did not escape her famous parents notice. "Could use a cape," her father interrupted. "You think every suit could use a cape," scolded his wife. "And what is wrong with a cape?" "Nothing but I think our daughter should be reluctant to take clothing advise from a man who wears his underwear on the out side!" After mother and daughter had a good laugh his daughter asked, "Excuse me but I thought we are here to help me learn how to change in a timely manner!" Her father nodded his head in agreement as he said,"Now I want you to try this again, but this time slowly with out using your super speed. Remember you have to crawl before you can run. Now try again only one step at a time!" "How is that going to help me?" "It's the way your grand mother taught me so many years ago," he told her. And so for the rest of the day Martha Kent practiced changing into the next generation of super hero! Or at least until her baby brother and sister came back from pre school to drive her crazy.
