Mighty Mouse by esterinarose@aol.com Here she comes to save the day! My name is Horace Mueller and I have lived here at 103 Appletree Lane for over fifty years. Bought the house when I was in my early twenty's and moved in with my bride. We raised a nice family in this little old house. Two boys and a girl, all grown up with families of their own now. Mrs. Mueller, god rest her sole, passed away two years ago and I miss her more and more every day. About two years ago I bought the house next door to ours. The Johnson family had been our next door neighbors for the better part of 30 years, but they both passed away within six months of one another. Concerned about the type of people that may have purchased the home, I made a deal with the oldest Johnson boy to buy the house and I have rented it out since to a nice young girl named Nancy James. Nancy is a very tiny girl, I don’t imagine she stands anymore than 5'-0" tall and weighs around 95 pounds. When she was in high school ten years ago she was quite a celebrity. Star of the girls state championship basketball team, leading hitter on the softball team and quite a little speedster for the track team. A real all around athlete she was. I was happy to have her as a neighbor and tenant. She had a good job at the local savings and loan and had been dating a nice young man for the last six months or so. Small towns being what they are, some people suspected Nancy of having more interest in other women than men, but I never did listen to gossip. Recently this rumor caused quite a stir in my little neighborhood. Seems Nancy's young gentleman friend was enjoying a beer at the local tavern and got into a confrontation with Billy Evans. Billy was the town bully, always shooting his mouth off about one topic or another. He started making fun of Nancy's boyfriend for dating a known lesbian. I guess the whole bar had a good laugh and the young man made the mistake of defending Nancy's honor with his fists. That no good Evans kid just wiped the floor of the bar with Nancy's boyfriend. Pounded him without mercy. Put him in the hospital for over a week. I felt really bad for Nancy and I told her so when I saw her coming home from work about three days after the fight. She told me the whole story, but it wasn’t anything more than I had heard from a couple of other people. She said that someday, someone would take care of Billy and show him for the coward he was. I smiled and went back into my house to watch the evening news. The next day was a Saturday, hot as blazes. I was out in my garden about 11am and I heard a truck pulling up in front of my house. Imagine my surprise to find a very flustered looking Billy Evans charging toward Nancy's front door. Shortly thereafter I could hear Billy's big mouth berating Nancy and I rushed to her front door to see if I could help her. They both looked surprised as I walked thru the front door. "Look old man, this is between me and the midget girl over here, so why don’t you just get out of here." said a very red faced Billy. I asked Nancy if she wanted me to call the police and she gave me a sly wink and told me she would handle matters on her own. This enraged Billy further. He shouted at me "Can you believe this little shit invited me over here to fight her? Don’t go anywhere old man, cuz I want you as a witness that she was a willing participant in this fight." Nancy just looked at me and smiled "I'm sorry Mr. Mueller, I have to do this....sorry to drag you into it, but lets go out back and settle things shall we?". Such confidence in the tiny girl, I couldn’t believe she wanted a piece of Billy. We all stepped out the back door to a large fenced in back yard. The wooden fences were about six feet in height and surrounded the entire yard. Nancy had a wooden picnic table at one corner of the yard and not much else to clutter up the nice grassy surface. Plenty of room to move around, I thought. I sat down on the glider swing on Nancy's back porch and the combatants stepped down the two steps to the back yard area. I'll bet the top of Nancy's head didn’t even reach Billy's pectoral muscles. Billy removed his shirt to reveal a finely chiseled upper torso covered in dark brown hair. I would assume him to be around 6'-2" tall and 215lbs. Nancy looked him right in the eyes and removed her bulky sweatshirt and sweatpants. Her short light blonde hair shined in the hot afternoon sun. Nancy had on black spandex shorts and a top that looked like she was wearing a purple one piece bathing suit. She continued staring at Billy as she put on a pair of leather fingerless driving gloves. She pounded her right fist into her left palm and asked Billy if he was ready to fight like a gentleman. Billy laughed at her and said he would probably go to jail for this, but it would be worth it just to see the look on Nancy's face when she got hit hard for the first time. "Nobody insults me in public and then takes his fists to a friend of mine Billy. I am going to teach you a lesson about respect today", said Nancy. With that, Billy raised his fists and came charging at Nancy. She too got into a boxers stance and began dancing quickly around Billy with her fists raised. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, but Nancy was quite developed for a small girl. I hadn’t realized that her arms and shoulders were as muscular as they were. Her leg muscles were also quite well defined. Billy took a couple of swings at Nancy, but she danced away from each one. Billy continued after her, swinging wildly and missing the first nine punches of the fight. The tenth punch Billy threw was a long looping right hand that just missed her head. She turned her head just as hit right whizzed by, then followed up with a lightening quick right left combination that thudded off of Billy's ribs. Billy laughed off her punches, but they sounded like hard hits to me. Again Billy came at her, intent on landing a punch of any kind. He jabbed with his left, only to have Nancy duck under and score a three punch combination to his stomach. Billy wasn’t smiling now, in fact he seemed rather angry that he had not landed a punch in the first three minutes of the fight. Billy leaned into a left hook that grazed Nancy's shoulder....Nancy followed with a left of her own right under Billy's unprotected chin. Billy hopped backwards and stumbled to the grass. I couldn’t believe my eyes...little Nancy knocked him down. Billy jumped to his feet and seeing that I was screaming encouragement to Nancy, he yelled "That was just a slip old man, this fight wont last long". He bulled his way toward Nancy and trapped her against the wooden fence. Rights and lefts rained down upon the much smaller fighter, but she blocked most of the punches with her arms and shoulders. She sidestepped him when he went to throw his right hand and it exploded thru the wooden fence. Billy looked at his hand and flexed it, making sure it wasn’t broken. He became enraged and followed after Nancy to continue his assault. I felt bad for her, but there wasn’t much I could do. I noticed that Billy was sweating a lot and ten minutes into the fight, looked a bit on the tired side. Billy tried to push Nancy against the fence again, but she was too fast for him. She danced away, then went up on her toes and sent a quick right left combination to his face. His head snapped back and forth and he had a surprised look on his face. The fight continued and after about 15 minutes I would guess that Billy had thrown well over 100 punches, only grazing Nancy with about eight. Nancy on the other hand had only thrown 10 punches or so, but she landed every single one right on the button. Billy's hair was soaked in sweat when Nancy stepped up her assault. She stepped in and hit him with four shots to his ribs. Billy bent a little at the waist and Nancy sent a good hard left hook to the side of his head. Billy staggered a bit and Nancy followed after him, nailing his with a stinging right to his chin. Billy backpedaled quickly and slipped to the grass. He did not get up as quick as the first knockdown. He rolled on his side and lifted himself up while Nancy stood with her fists raised. He too raised his fists while his whole body heaved as he sucked wind. Nancy must have seen that he was tiring. Her earlier strategy of staying away from Billy was paying off. She was now coming to him for the action. She went at him and again attacked his stomach area, which made Billy drop his hands, POW - POW , a two punch combination to his unprotected face made the sweat fly from his head. Nancy followed after him and nailed him in the ribs about five times. Billy's return punches all missed, and lacked the snap they once had at the beginning of the fight. I was screaming for Nancy to go after him and she did just that. It was now Nancy that pushed Billy against the fence and pounded away at him. His arms always dropped down to protect his ribs and then Nancy, being the smart fighter she is, almost jumped out of her sneakers to deliver hard uppercuts to his face. Nancy must have landed twenty body shots and around eight shots to his head in the last two minutes of action. Billy wasn’t so cocky anymore as Nancy now hit him at will. After one exchange I distinctly heard him groan and say "ow". Twenty five minutes had gone by and Billy's face had a couple of welts around his eyes. Nancy looked as fresh as a daisy. Billy again tried one of his looping lefts and paid a dear price for missing. Nancy threw her hardest punch of the fight straight into his stomach. He bent at the waist and she nailed his right on the kisser with a right hand uppercut. Billy staggered backward and fell in sections to his ass. He had a very embarrassed look on his face as he sat there looking up at Nancy who by now had raised her hands in the air to celebrate the knockdown of her much larger opponent. Billy sat on his ass for at least eight seconds before he started to get up. If this had been a regulation boxing match, Nancy would have had a knockout win. She allowed his to regain his feet and followed after him. Her fists were a blur and she pummeled Billy's face with lefts and rights. She was hitting him with five and seven punch combinations that were making marks all over his sweaty face. By now Billy was bent over from the beating his ribs had taken earlier. Being hunched over made his face more vulnerable to Nancy's attach. A quick and hard right hand by Nancy sent Billy Backpedaling again. This time he fell to a seated position on the picnic table. He just sat there and shook his head slowly....not knowing what to do next. He looked up at Nancy who stood before him again with her fists raised. "You hit hard for a little girl" he said. "You're damn right I hit hard, now get up so I can end this fight". Billy just sat there, so Nancy went over to him and pulled him to his feet. She leaned into him and beat his ribs till his back was against the wooden fence. He was trapped and she belted away at him. He was leaning over on top of Nancy as she beat away at his stomach. Blood was coming from his mouth and he was moaning loudly after each punch. Nancy stepped back and tagged him hard with five chopping rights. Billy lowered with each punch and Nancy's piston like punches soon found his face and head. He once again fell to his side. Nancy bent over and pulled him to his feet. At this point Billy was talking in Nancy's ear. I was later to find out that he was begging her not to knock him out in front of me. Nancy held Billy upright with her left arm, pushing him against the wooden fence. She then gave Billy the business end of her right hand over and over again. She must have hit him with twenty punches right in the face before Billy started wailing like a baby, asking his much smaller opponent to stop making a fool of him with her fists. This only encouraged Nancy and she continued her punching. Blood flowed out of both of Billy's nostrils after Nancy flattened it with a hard straight right hand. He sunk to his knees holding his smashed face. Fearing that Nancy's flying fists held more for the sobbing bully, I ran from the back porch to her side and asked her to stop hitting him before he ended up in the hospital and sued her for assault and battery. Billy looked up at both of us and thru tear soaked eyes cried "Please Nancy, no more...I'll do anything you want, just don’t punch me anymore". "Anything?", Nancy said as Billy nodded his head yes. Nancy agreed to stop her punching and I declared her the winner by a technical knockout. She had fun prancing around the back yard with her muscular arms raised in victory. It took Billy fifteen minutes before he could compose himself enough to stagger to his truck, a beaten, bloody mess. That wasn’t the last we saw of Billy that summer, oh no. Why every Saturday Billy would come by Nancy's house, start up her lawn mower and proceed to cut and trim the grass and shrubs while I enjoyed a nice cool lemonade with the two fisted strong girl on her back porch. Senior citizens have all the advantages, don’t you think? **The End**
