I Hate Muscles pt. III Lara had begun to feel better ... ..Great in fact. She marveled at how energetic she felt, but it was something more than that. She felt "ALIVE" This had been growing in her in the weeks since the accident and had now come full tilt. Never before had she had such a feeling of confidence, of self-assurance, of power. She still thought of her family, but those thoughts were not as strong as before. Instead she thought of her two friends who, she assumed, were in much worse shape that herself. She felt a connection with them that went beyond growing up together. She felt as though the three of them had bonded into something more. Lara knew deep in her heart that the three of them would meet once again and the result of that encounter would be magical. "Good news Lara!" said Dr. as he entered the room. "Really? What is it?" "You are being released to our outside facility. As of 3:00 today you will be living on your own ... .with our supervision of course." "I can go home? Awesome!" Lara exclaimed. "Not quite home ... .yet, but you will get to experience some of the outside world again" "OK, anything to get out of here and see some normal people ... uh, no offense doctor" "None taken. I will be talking to you soon." Lara stepped out of the car and thanked the driver. After dealing with the doctor and his nurse for 3 weeks it was nice to see some other people. When she arrived in town an hour earlier the first thing she noticed was she was in a small town. Where? ... . she didn't know, but it looked like somewhere in the southwest. She had been to the house the doctor had set up for her and found it surprisingly nice. The fridge had been stocked with her favorite foods, the bathtub and bed were better than she had at home and it even had a small exercise room. Now, as she stood on the street corner she wasn't sure what to do. She felt a pinch on her ass and swung her hand around. There was a man laying on the ground. He was unconscious. "Jesus lady ... " a man said fron across the street "You knocked that guy flat" Lara was confused. She didn't hit that guy ... .did she??? And she certainly couldn't have knocked him out. "Not with these ar- ... ." Lara was looking at her arms. They seemed bigger ... .stretching her blouse in places that were never stretched before. The man from across the street ran over. "I think he is unconscious" the stranger said standing over the body. "I ... ..I ... .I am not sure what came over me." Lara paused, thought about the situation and said "I guess he deserved what he got." Lara walked home. She had a radiant quality about her that she could not explain. A part of her felt bad for the poor sap laid out on the sidewalk, but another part of her felt elated. What had the doctors done to her? Why was she feeling so good? When she arrived home, Lara cooked a dinner of chicken and pasta and helped herself to two glasses of chardonay. After dinner she went to the bathroom to take a soak. As she undressed she caught herself in the mirror. "What the-----?" The abs were the first thing she noticed. The arms came next. Lara looked like a regular weight trainer besides the fact that she had never touched a weight in her life. She flexed. Her eyes grew wide as a bicep appeared. She turned to the window. Lara felt little pain as the bullet ripped through her forehead. The mirror, where just moments before she had admired her new body, was splattered with brain, hair and skull.
