Back From Afghanistan


The last time I posted on this board, I wrote about having an extremely tall
woman and her equally tall younger sister living in my house. Unfortunately I
wasn't able to enjoy it much, due to the fact the Army deployed me to
Afghanistan. Over the past 6 months Meredith had been writing me and she
seemed to be opening up a little. Though she is "entertaining" the thought of

get over the height thing. Upon my return from Pope AFB, Meredith was waiting
for me along with the other family members of soldiers that were deployed from
my unit. As soon as the shuttle bus pulled to the front of our headquarters

me." She replied, "It's the least I could do, you were there for me!" I asked

of my troops asked me, "Hey Top, is that your wife?" Then he laughed. Meredith

if to say, "Just go along with me!" "You got a problem with that little
trooper!" Perry just got a scared look in his eye and he shook his head "no"
and kept walking! I could hardly blame him, because at 6'10", Meredith posed a

and then grabbed the ones I was carrying and threw them back too. She got into
the driver's side of my truck and I just stood there. Then I walked up to the
window and said, "Do you mind if I drive my own truck Meredith? I've been
driven around in Hummvees and FMTV's for the last 6 months. It would be nice
to drive my truck again if you don't mind!" She smiled and said, "Sure, I'm
sorry, sweetie. It's okay if you drive, besides, it's more comfortable in the
passenger seat anyways, there's more leg room over there!" As she got out of
the truck, my LT. Walked by with his wife and said, "Hey, Top! Is this
Meredith? Then he reached out his hand and said, Hello ma'am, I've heard a lot
about you!" I could see a strange look on his face as they shook hands.
Obviously he was either surprised at how big Meredith's hands were or how
strong her grip was! Then he turned to me and said, "Wow, you 're right, Top!
I thought you were joking when you said she is taller than me! This was so
hard to believe for him because he is 6'7" and thought it impossible that I
was involved with a woman that was even taller than him! Then he introduced me
to his wife, who was about 6' tall and obviously also surprised at how tall
Meredith was! Then he continued, "I didn't believe you but she really is, and
she's every bit as gorgeous as you said!" I could see Meredith blush as he was
complimenting her. Then she turned to me with an approving smile on her face
and replied to him, "So he told you I was gorgeous, huh? He's so sweet!" My LT
told Meredith that it was nice to meet her and then went away with his wife as
she waved at us. I got into my truck and Meredith got into the other side. The
seat was as far back as it would go and I had to move it up pretty far before
I was able to reach the pedals! Meredith got into the other side and moved the
seat back. Her knees were rubbing up against the dash and I shook my head,
remembering the first time I gave her a ride last year and how surprised at

huh?" I was speechless and could only nod my head "yes"! Then I was finally
able to muster up, "Thanks, Holly, it's good to see you too! I've really
missed the both of you!" Then Holly, with her childlike innocence asked, "So,
what'd you bring me?" I laughed and said, "Sorry Susie, the Al Queda souvenir
shop was closed, maybe next time!" Her expression changed and she hugged me
again and said, "Let's hope there won't be a next time!" Then I saw a tear in
her eyes as she looked down at me. I reached up and dried her eye and gave her
a reassuring smile. Then Meredith interrupted, "Holly, why don't you let Roe
at least get into the house! I'm sure he's tired and would like to get a nice
shower and relax!" I turned to her and said, "Yeah, that would be great!
Relax!" I went into the house and noticed that these two women had obviously
taken over. But I'm not complaining because they just gave it a woman's touch
and made it look like a home instead of just someplace to stay. Meredith asked
me what I thought and I nodded my head "yes" and told her it looked homey and
really nice. She smiled back at me and said, "Why don't you go upstairs and
Holly and I will carry your stuff in?" I got into the shower and the warm
water felt so good! Just being back in my house made me appreciate my
blessings! I lathered up my hair and started to scrub my head. I was startled
by the touch of Meredith's hand on my shoulder as she stepped into the shower
